  1. I don't agree with the bandwagon comment. Most people here are fans of American athletes, and they only compete every four years for the most part. It's not like people suddenly become fans of Phelps, the women gymnastics team, basketball, beach volleyball, women's soccer team, track/field, and others. Maybe I'm taking what you said the wrong way.
  2. Yea, Pinto would be nice but no real loss. Other than that, nobody else I'm even remotely concerned if they go.
  3. Good news is, there's a long list of guys on current 40 man that either flat out need to go, or are marginal. I put this together just to illustrate it should be fairly easy to protect anyone worth protecting on the list above. Goodbye, good luck (5): Scahill, Elmore, Wilkins, Rowen, Capuano AAAA nice to have but not needed (13): Goforth, Cravy, Nolen, Barrios, Middlebrooks, Pina, Flores, Nieuwenhuis, Boyer, Cecchini, Marinez, Blazek, Houser (IR, no need to protect him on 40?) If you need to dig deeper (7): Torres, Broxton, Liriano, Y Rivera, Reed, Guerra, Garza
  4. You're still comparing results from the 2012 list, rather than comparing prospect status at the time. Which is the only fair way to compare that list to the current list. We won't be able to compare the results for another 5 years or so, once we see what happens with the 2016 list. But even looking at results, at least 21 players on that list played at the MLB level. Still at least 7 are prospects. Yea, I know some of those were only up for a cup of coffee. Other, like Lopez, could return. And that doesn't even include a guy like Morris who had monster power. Hey, I agree 100% the current Top 25 is better, but no way is this list pathetic. And it actually serves as a reminder that no matter how good the list looks, getting to MLB and playing even at neutral WAR is not easy.
  5. Not sure if he ever said "lots" but yes, I know he said he had discussions about him. Doesn't mean anyone actually offered a trade, or a trade of anything more than a middling prospect. If that's the case, I don't blame Stearns for rolling the dice if the only thing offered was minimal. One of those things we will probably never know.
  6. Yea, my guess is they didn't get any offers because teams were concerned about what just happened. Cleary an injury risk when a 31 yr old comes out of nowhere and throws a ton of innings.
  7. And That provided a list in Major League Forum. Among the players the Brewers who will need to be protected from this winter's Rule 5 draft are: Lewis Brinson Josh Hader Brett Phillips Tyrone Taylor Garrett Cooper Nate Orf Kyle Wren Angel Ortega Javier Betancourt Wei-Chung Wang Angel Ventura Victor Roache Miguez Diaz Taylor Williams
  8. I don't believe you've met. tmwiese, bf.net. bf.net, this is tmwiese.
  9. I don't know about that. You have one possible impact player (Arcia), a few ok players (Segura, Nelson), a couple still possible, and some BP guys. The cupboard wasn't bare, but it had a lot of ramen noodles... But you can't compare RESULTS from that list to the current prospect list. They are two very different things. In hindsight, we can see how that list has developed so far. We haven't had the opportunity to do that with our current list. At that time, several SP prospects were having big years. Several position players were recently drafted that everyone was excited about. Heck, most of those guys in the Top 15 are in MLB, or are still prospects. Evan in hindsight that list is not bad at all. There are still others on their way to MLB. Haniger for example. It is always interesting to go back and compare these lists, but there are certainly other lists in the recent past that were worse than this one.
  10. While I agree with all that, there is a chance his slugging% will be higher than that as he continues to develop. He has a little pop in his bat already, and he's still very young. I would be perfectly happy with great defense and a .700- .725ish OPS. But the potential is there for him to exceed those numbers, coming almost exclusively from the slugging. (I just don't see him doing any better than that .320 OBP)
  11. Gatewood back in the lineup tonight, along with Domingo Santana. Excited for all the pitchers going tonight, but only Woody had great outing....and Supek
  12. I agree with some of what you said, but I don't get this part. Why do you resent him getting his way? You do realize the Brewers wanted to trade him just as much as he wanted to be traded? Yet nobody is upset that the Brewers got their way. If Lucroy never said anything, I suppose everyone would be upset with the Brewers for trading him. I mention all this because you seem to imply Lucroy somehow forced the Brewers into trading him. Apologies up front if that's not what you meant.
  13. Oh, no doubt about that! But when Mark A went after Suppan full force, I can't imagine he did so with the hopes of having his #5 starter set for the next several years. Same with Wolf, Lohse, etc. I think they wanted to believe all those guys were #3 type starters, and in the case of Garza a #2.
  14. Yes, when Brinson and Ortiz are All-Stars we'll all mention how great it was that he turned down the Cleveland trade.
  15. Yea, it's probably overdone, but if he didn't do it lots of people would point that out. You really can't win if you're Luc. Nothing he can do or say at this point to change anyone's mind about him.
  16. Peralta, Jungmann, Suter, Wilkerson, Guerra, and Anderson all serve the same purpose. Provide depth in the rotation and eat up innings over the next couple years. That's it. Hader should be up next year, then hopefully two more starters in 2018. But until then, they will need to get by with quantity over quality. So it's well worth it to see if Peralta can become even a serviceable starter. Suter will get his chance, but he's not any kind of long term answer at his age anyhow.
  17. Guys, it's been two games for Coulter in AA. Let's wait a bit longer before we proclaim Coulter's hitting is WHOAAA SOLVD.
  18. I'm all for no more Suppans and Garzas, but they weren't brought in to be back of the rotation starters.
  19. That Top 25 is actually not bad at all, especially at the time.
  20. He is mashing, but he's also 21 and about to turn 22. Maybe it's time to part with Sharkey and promote Gideon to WI. I like Aviles as a possible MLB player since he can play so many positions. That's a valuable commodity. He can hit some, and even has some pop in his bat. Like everyone else, either he continues to develop or he doesn't. But when you can play a lot of positions, that helps your cause tremendously.
  21. Too bad even when you put talent on that team they still epically suck. I doubt anyone in Florida cares about the Brewers top prospects. Heck do they even care about winning games? That team has quite a bit of talent now and is 39 games under .500. Good points. No, I don't think 99% of fans would care about Brewers top prospects, and 90% wouldn't care about winning. MiLB is about fan experience, especially at the A ball level. With that said, being a Milwaukee affiliate would have one advantage. Masses of Wisconsinites go down to the Orlando area for vacation. If the Brewers market the Fire Frogs up north, and Kiss markets them down there, you would think plenty of fans would take a day to go to game instead of spending thousands at the theme parks. In other words, attendance would be driven as much (or more) by tourists from WI rather than relying only on local population.
  22. I looked forward to the Olympics. Summer rerun season, so nothing on anyhow. Nothing sports related either other than the Brewers. It's great getting to see sports I wouldn't otherwise care about once every four years. And since there's something on line in every event, it makes things interesting. USA Women's soccer is always exciting to follow. Looking forward to some of the bigger men's matches too. Swimming is always fun to watch, since it's so heavily dominates by USA, how many more medals will Phelps win, etc. End of that women's cycling road race was crazy. The American was leading seemingly forever and gave it up with 100 meters to go. Went from Gold Medal to nothing just like that. Also, I keep forgetting they haven't even started track and field yet.
  23. He's at 1.05 GO/AO. In other words, for every 105 ground ball outs he gets, he gets 100 outs in the air. That's not a lot at all. Much like Ortega. Great Suter has figured out how to get outs, I just can't imagine that translating to MLB.
  24. Maybe bigger question, why did Medeiros go only 1?
