  1. Strawman argument alert. Name anyone who thinks throwing at someone's head is ever acceptable. Hitting someone in the butt or thigh is hardly violence, anymore than a hard foul in the NBA is violence. Or a hard slide in baseball for that matter.
  2. Would the Rule 5 picks be eligible? Colin Walsh, Zach Jones, etc.?
  3. Seems to me everyone knows Braun is available, just wait for teams to start calling with serious offers. I don't think the Brewers should spend anymore time shopping him, it just weakens their negotiating position. Much like Lucroy, Garza, Scooter, Peralta, etc. all these guys will have value if they play well. The big money teams would love to have a healthy .870 OPS Braun, and his contract is very reasonable for a player like that. That's what this season is all about. Hope the vets play well so you get a maximum return at the trade deadline, and get s sense of which young players will fit into future plans.
  4. You wouldn't want Bayless back in that role? I think he's been perfect for that roll.
  5. Captain Obvious here, I know, but it really comes down to who's hot or not for the entire tourney, or even one game. A #1 or #2 seed could lose in the 2nd round to a team that just shoots the lights out and/or they have a bad game themselves. Now that has an effect on the rest of that bracket for the remainder of the tourney. I mention this, because this makes predicting impossible- either for us or the experts. It WILL happen to someone, but it's nothing more than guessing to predict which team has that happen to them. I'm not saying the whole tourney is a crap shoot, don't get me wrong. But we give ourselves too much pain when we get a team wrong. If I pick Mich St or Kansas to win it all and they lose in the 2nd or 3rd round, it doesn't mean it was a stupid pick, it means they got upset and that happens. Some of these upsets you can predict more than others, and that's what pools are all about. Like I said...Captain Obvious. But just look at all the teams we could legitimately say COULD make a run to the Final 4. It's a pretty long list this year.
  6. I don't think anyone is short-sighted, just realistic. Most recent history carries more weight than 4 years ago. That's not just my opinion, it's the opinion of every MLB team in the league, or they would have found a way to trade for him. IF they really believed 2015 was a fluke season. I'm sure the Brewers would have been very flexible with the money. Nobody knows. He could rebound, or he could have another disastrous season. It isn't necessarily the end, but this is what the end looks like for a starting pitcher. But then you mention how Davies is clearly better than Anderson already. So in this case, you're using an extremely small sample for Davies. He hasn't had enough starts to get a "book" on him yet. He hasn't had to face the same team 3 or 4 times. I like Davies too, but it's way too early to lock him in as a good 4/5 for the next 6+ years. I hope you're right though!
  7. A player can avoid that. If he's up against certain teams or pitchers, they know who will likely throw at them if they do any show-boating. So it works both ways. Sure, go ahead and stare down a pitcher after you hit a HR. But then accept the consequences. That's baseball to me, for better or worse. I don't want to sanitize the game and make everyone play nice. We seem to want the players to police this stuff themselves, but then want to dictate how they police it.
  8. Other advantage of FL is they could kill 2 birds with one stone. Spring Training and the home for their A+ team.
  9. Yea, Counsel's point is that it's extremely rare to go through an entire season with only 5 starts getting all the starts, or even a majority of starts. These things take care of themselves. Bigger question is what they do with the #7, 8, 9 starters. You don't want to start the clock on guys like Lopez or Hader this season, but maybe Houser? At the same time, you don't want to hold a guy back if he's been dominant.
  10. I have 3 hats, just looked at the one you're talking about. Yea, grey hat titled to the side. Yes, like Poochy. Went a little too far trying to jam too much in that logo, IMHO, but generally speaking they have really nice merchandise. Now Brevard on the other hand, horrible selection. Then again, Trats operation is light years ahead of Brevard in every way. For example, most interesting item in Brevard's concessions?? Hot dog.
  11. Yea, I think that's the positive that's come out of this season. I agree with you, pretty obvious what they need to fit around Giannis, Jabari, and Middy. Seemed like they needed a traditional PG, but I don't think that's necessary anymore. Ideally, I would like two bigs (rim protectors) to go along with Plumlee and Henson and a couple 3 and D guys to go a long with Bayless. They can get one guy in the draft, one for a Monroe trade, and a FA to fit Mayo's slot. So this is very do-able.
  12. Another old man here. I don't agree that nerds are ruining the game at all. If a player is good enough, he's going to play. Doesn't matter what is used to evaluate him, so that argument doesn't make sense to me. I don't like the celebrating, I'll admit that. But if it stopped where it is right now, I'm fine with it. My concern is slippery slope, and it gets more and more pronounced every year. Like the NFL when guys started pulling Sharpies and cell phones out of their socks. MLB could go the same route, and I don't want to see that. I'm all for showing emotion, but I don't want to see every player have their HR "thing" or pitchers have their personal strike-out "thing."
  13. Just an observation. It's amazing to me that the Yankees, Red Sox, and Dodgers never come up in any trade rumors. I don't mean just Lucroy, any trade talk in seemingly forever. Not sure what that means, I just find it interesting.
  14. +1 Get the best deal you can, if it's the Cubs, it's the Cubs. And how will the Cubs feel when they stink in 2020 and three former draft picks are with the Brewers and putting a hurt on them.
  15. Well, we're not talking about Duke or Kansas here. UCF or someone in that sphere would still be a better opportunity and a bigger paycheck. I imagine he would be as good as anyone else recruiting at a school at that level.
  16. I don't see how trading Monroe would kill any good graces with future FA. If he was traded at the deadline, it would have been to a contender, so Monroe would have been eternally grateful. Dudley has also sung the praises of how the Bucks treat veterans. Besides all that, it comes down to dollars and opportunity to win for any FA. As far as Henson goes, why do you say he doesn't fit? I think he fits perfectly, and they just extended his contract earlier this year, so the Bucks think so too. Henson is a rim protector that run the floor, finish down low, etc. They don't need scoring out of him, he's a perfect fit for what he costs and what he does.
  17. Well, if he had good trade value he would have been traded, because they were shopping him.
  18. Which is why I thought it was a bad idea to begin with. The reason I think the Owners are involved is they strike me, like all new owners (see Mark A), as wanting to win right away. And sell tickets. How do guys like that think that's done? Go out and get the biggest name you can. Well...Monroe was the biggest name the Bucks could get. Nevermind he didn't (and doesn't) fit at all what they were trying to do on either end of the floor. At least MCW made some sense, no matter what we feel about him. He fit the long, athletic athlete mold at least.
  19. How do we know this was Hammonds's idea? They have at least two majority Owners with strong personalities, a President, and oh yea,Jason Kidd who doesn't strike me as a HC who sits quietly in the corner when decisions are made. This is a huge issue going forward for me. Are major decisions like this made as a team....group- think? Owners? If Kidd feels really strongly about someone does he get his way? I really question the decision making process, and I have a very hard time believing Hammonds is free to make all these moves alone.
  20. I use to feel the same way, but he started to loosen up last year. I know a lot of people don't like Rock either, but I think they've grown together and are pretty entertaining. It's really tough to balance calling a good game, providing insight on the game, and having some fun with each other during a 3 hour broadcast. I think they've gotten to the point where they do it pretty well. Now if they would massively overhaul (or drop) the pre and post game commentary, we would really have something.
  21. Observation deck on top of the Sears Tower would be really cool for their age. (Yes, it will always be the SEARS tower to me.)
  22. As I've learned more about MiLB from all of you over the past 8 years or so, seems like there's a lot of emphasis on age of prospects. Is it really THAT big of a factor? Don't get me wrong, I understand evaluating an 18 yr old vs 22 yr old in A ball needs to be a strong consideration when evaluating talent. I'm talking more about the AAA/MLB level. For example, Rogers and Rivera. When Rogers was traded, general consensus was "he's too old anyhow" and Rivera is too old to be part of future plans. I guess my question is, what difference does it make is someone is called up to MLB when they're 22 or 27? Either way, you're getting several years in the players prime. In fact, it could be argued an older player is more likely to contribute more sooner. Very few players make it 6 years on the Brewers roster anyhow, much less any years after the arby years. So, Rivera for example. He will be 24 later this year, so how is that "too old" to be a part of future plans? I realize in his case there's more to it than that, most don't feel he projects into a regularly used position player. And the age thing is just icing on top, but it's always throw in there. Anyhow, just wondering how almost identical players that are, say, 2 years apart considered so different?
  23. Except Cardinals "unofficial rule book" clearly states any baseball dog must maintain same appearance throughout the season.
  24. I could say low A is a good time for a 1B to learn how to play corner OF. Being able to play other positions always helps your cause making it to MLB. In his case, I don't see it. He is a 1B.
  25. Press conference over. I don't want to hear Hank's name again. Unless he's in the running to play CF, which I guess is entirely possible.
