  1. I think trade value is secondary. Sure, if he hits enough bombs you'll get something back but nothing earth-shaking. The bigger factor is putting a team on the field that is at least passable. I know some of you would love to have a 50-112 season to guarantee the first pick in the draft. The problem with that is it has a negative effect on the young players they're trying to develop. Nelson, Davies, maybe Lopez or Wagner. Tough to develop a young SP when he has no support. Same is true for position players. If you have to hit in a horrific line-up, makes it very difficult to reach your potential. That's why a guy like Carter works. Costs almost nothing, and while not a great bat at least it's a legit power bat. And don't worry, they'll still be plenty bad enough to bet a high draft pick.
  2. I know there are regulars here who live in the Phoenix area, they may chime in. But I've gone a few times, and here's my 2 cents. I have never had an issue getting tickets at the gate the day of the game, even right before the game. Also, it is a small park so pretty easy to move around and sit where you want as the game goes on. Very casual atmosphere. However, if you want certain seating (right behind the Brewers dugout for example) that would probably require you to order tickets ASAP, if it's not too late already. Also, keep the sun in mind. If you rather sit in the shade, make sure you mention that when buying tickets. We sit in the sun, and just move to a shaded area if it gets too hot. We always visit a couple other parks during our trip. Gives us a chance to see other areas of Phoenix. It's also fun to scout out restaurants, sports bars, brew pubs, etc. in these different areas. As Nate mentioned, we usually drive up to Sedona for the day. Last time we rented ATVs, and that was a blast! There are trails to hike in the Phoenix area, as easy or difficult as you want. Or you can just drive to the top of one of the mountains for a great view. I'm not an autograph hound, so can't help you there. But I always see people hanging on the rails next to the Brewers dugout. Some players sign, some don't. I'm sure that varies by day and time on who signs, who doesn't. My gut tells me the earlier you get there, the better. Have fun!
  3. Black Mass has no chance of being nominated? (No expert here, just asking)
  4. Not sure how they're not floundering if they're headed for the lottery as you (rightly) point out? Oddly enough, I'm more bullish on the Brewers than any other team. At least they have the self-reflection to realize where they are, and are taking the right steps to build for the future. The Bucks have made all the wrong moves after all the excitement of new Owners, new court, new unis, new arena on the way, playoff appearance last year, etc. Now they just look like a team with no identity, and the young stars (Giannis and Parker) look like their ceiling is lower than I thought- especially Parker. The Packers, I just feel are on a bit of a downslide. Just my opinion, but I think they'll be good in the next couple years, just not a SB contender. Badgers bball and football are down. Marquette is and will be better but still not anything to get overly excited about. Even Whitewater's dynasty in football appears to be waning.
  5. Who cares if it pays off next year? Expanding the park is for when this team is ready to make a run again. And I have no idea, but I wouldn't think it would cost $50MM-$100MM. I think it all depends on how far you go with changing the dimensions. Why do it? Generally speaking, WS teams come from pitchers parks.
  6. I've been beating that drum for years. Could it be done? Yes. Would it be a huge project costing a ton of money? Not necessarily. It all depends on how big of a change is made. It wouldn't have to be just moving walls back, they could make walls higher in some places also. But even if it does have a big price tag, I think it's worth doing. Nothing behind the walls is structural, other that Friday's. There's space back there that can be re-configured without losing fan areas. You just have to get a little creative about it.
  7. Yea....but....it's BIGGER.
  8. I don't think .600 ball in May is some crazy, far-fetched possibility. They are fully capable of doing that in a 40 game stretch. The rotation could start the season lights-out, that's all it would take to go .600 for a little while. It's rare to make many moves in May, so I think it's just move along and then be sellers at the trade deadline. Even if they're at .500 in August, I like to have faith that the front office would realize that's fool's gold. Hopefully Garza is decent enough to trade, and if Lucroy is still around you trade him too, maybe Peralta and others. In any case, it doesn't change anything. The needle is still firmly in the sellers range.
  9. Scott Podsednik was 27-28 with the Brewers Brady Clark was 30-33 with Brewers Casey McGehee was 26/27 I believe Some guys take awhile to get there opportunity to establish themselves. If Reed is so good anyway, he will beat these guys out for the job. If he can't, why should the Brewers just give him the job without earning it or proving it? DS is creating competition. If Nieuwenhuis comes out and proves that he is the best option you go with him. If not, you lose nothing by bringing him in. I understand, but my point is if he is Brady Clark for a couple years, who cares? We don't need players who can help in 2016. 2016 should be a try-out year for the likes of Santana, Reed, Rivera, guys like that. Not 29 year olds.
  10. Waste of time. I don't like this trend of signing 28-29 year olds. I would rather go with Reed and any other YOUNG player than these ST invites that are old and well... not very good.
  11. I know what you're saying, but if you look at the stats it's actually amazing the Bucks have won as many games as they have. Near or at the bottom of the league in many important categories.
  12. I think it's critical they build their own pitching staff- especially the rotation. If you can do that, and have a great pitching staff that is controllable and relatively cheap you're more than halfway home. It allows you to go out and get a big bat at the right time in the rebuild process. What I like about the KC model is that they proved you don't need a bunch of power bats to win. Or, really, even two dominant SP like the Dodgers had. Seems like a realistic model the Brewers can follow. A very good rotation, maybe not elite, an outstanding pen, and then position players that are athletic, play defense, and can get on base. Not like that's anything new, just nice to see KC win it all to prove that formula can still work. With power down, and runs down in general, defense is more important, as is speed on the basepaths.
  13. Thanks guys, asked and answered. Couldn't remember if he ever played 1B in the minors, I know he didn't in Appleton. I guess I'm not thrilled that CC says absolutely no way Braun or Davis play 1B. With all the depth in the OF, just seems logical you have to consider it at least. I don't know, maybe he sees Cooper's name in the depth chart and thinks it's Cecil Cooper?
  14. My over/under is four touchdowns
  15. With the Brewers making a move just about every day it seems, would it be relatively easy to create and pin a thread that lists all the transactions? Player name, position, how acquired, etc.? Something like this: Player X 3B AA Braun trade- Rangers There's just so many guys being acquired throughout the organization, this will be helpful to all of us as we move forward over the next few years. (Sorry to be the guy who asks for a project to be done without helping get it done.)
  16. So the Brewers trade Rogers because he is old and is a bad defensive 1B. Then pursue another older, bad defensive 1B in Alvarez. I've read through the posts, and consensus I see is Rogers is way under-valued. There is tendency sometimes to point out stats for a player that is liked, but completely ignore them if we don't. I sense that's what's going on with Rogers. .808 OPS with the Brewers last year, which wasn't easy they way they used him. 1.056 in AAA. Oh, that's in Colorado. But the year before he hit .947. This is not some bench player as some have called him. Yet, at the same time, many are raving about the light- hitting Broxton. Even a reference to Lo Cain! All this to say, no I don't hate the trade. Not even saying they shouldn't have done it. But let's not act like they pulled one over on Pitt or something. Rogers could have been an average MLB 1B for a few years, possibly be there when thy start winning again- at least early on. My fear is he goes the Nelson Cruz- light route and we get a .238 hitting CF and a pitcher that never develops. That's always the risk you take in trades like this, I get that.
  17. There's a ton of legit GMs in here. Just ask them what they think of a player and if they don't like their WAR then that player is useless and the GM sucks. These guys don't even need eyeballs because WAR says it all Guys, seems like you're searching for a fight that isn't there. I don't see too many people that have an issue with this move, consensus has been that the Middlebrooks signing is fine.
  18. Crazy it sounds, that's been Mayo. Probably wouldn't cost a ton to sign him again either. Buy a little time if they do draft a rookie PG. MCW could be a combo guard off the bench. Tough roadie coming up, I would be thrilled if they could go 2-2.
  19. Wow, that's horrible. You hit it on the head though, sick and tired of being sick and tired. Yesterday was my favorite. I thought I may be over it, just a bit of a sore throat when I woke up. By noon I felt thoroughly exhausted and worn out, had to lay down when I got home, which I never do. By bedtime I was coughing and hacking like crazy. Point being, this thing is a tease in addition to everything else.
  20. Anyone else have this virus (cold?) that's going around? I think I'm going on 3 weeks now, and it's beginning to p me off. I've had colds before, obviously, but this one is weird. Every day the symptoms change. One day, it's a cough that won't stop/ Nest day, nose all stuffed up, then sore throat and my voice is shot. I took a round of antibiotics and it didn't help, which tells me it is just a cold or something. Anyhow, just wondering if anyone else is dealing with it, and how long does it last?!?! I really don't feel horrible, it's just a pain in the butt more than anything.
  21. Gotcha covered. Had every confidence in the world you would! That is.........awesome!
  22. There are so many players in the mix, hard to say how this will all shake out by April. Could be more trades, injuries, etc. I'm not a big Segura fan, but the guy has shown in the past he has some power and can get on base. Lots of young players have these ups and downs early in their career, and I think it's worth having one more look. Just look at all the guys the Brewers have been acquiring. Many are coming off down years, it's why they're available. So why not take the same chance on guys we already have under control?
  23. That's because a can't miss 18 year old is about as rare as seeing Bigfoot riding a unicorn. It is tough for anyone to make it all the way to MLB, that's why odds are better with three of them that one will. Two of them can throw in the low-mid 90s, with control. That's not a bad skill set to start with at 18 years old.
  24. Yea, I don't see much point in trading Segura now. You're just not going to get much of anything back. Let him play SS in 2016, he's cheap. Maybe he finds his power again and/or improves his OBP. Now his stock goes up. We need to remember baseball is flush with SS right now, you can pretty easily find a 2015 version of Segura anywhere, or players that project to be that type of player. I look at it as the downside of keeping him is almost nill, and the upside is he'll be worth more a the trade deadline or possibly even work his way into the mix for the future at 2B, 3B, utility, whatever.
