  1. I went to work he next day. Probably a generational thing.
  2. I like LePay, but if he keeps saying "ribby" I may be longing for Jerry Augustine and his "Breakaball"
  3. I agree, seems like downtown is a done deal unless something pretty dramatic or unforeseen happens. Rises the question of what they're going to do with all these arenas, but that's a problem for a different day. It would almost be like an arena museum, all lined up in a row.
  4. I new by the 3rd inning that the Brewers could win. So, I was focused on the Brewers game than posting. But you claim this after the fact, rather than in the 3rd inning. Ohhhhh so close. Credibility? Buh by.
  5. I didn't see it either, but I can only assume Peralta had 100% of his pitches on the outside corner, and the Brewers' hitters went to the opposite field on every swing- hence the win. Now, if they do that every time, stands to reason they will never lose to the Cardinals ever again.
  6. Yea, I've thought of the Poto site, makes sense in some ways. The Potos could give them the land for free, naming rights for the arena, and would probably even kick in a couple hundred million to help build it. X amount of the 15,000-20,000 fans for Bucks and MU games would be gambling there, staying at the hotel, dining at their restaurants, etc. But it doesn't solve the entertainment district problem. It's still not walking distance from MP or downtown, so everything is still spread out. Plus, I don't think the NBA would like the visual of a franchise on the grounds of a casino. I blieve you're right about the sales tax, that was not specifially for Miller Park. However, nobody will vote to do that if they don't feel public opinion is behind them.
  7. $500MM for a new arena, easily. While this sale is obviously good news, there is still a $300MM gap to build a new arena and getting one cent of public money will be very difficult. Yes, Mark A, NML, other indiviuals and businesses may contribute, but $300MM is stil a huge amount of money to raise. Most interesting thins I heard in the press conf was one of the new investors saying construcion would begin withina year, and done in two years. A few minutes later Kohl made a comment about how "we have several years" to raise the funds before construcion even begins. Well...which is it? I think the enthusiasm will die down if this all takes 4-5 years to even get started. Unfortunately, the ship has already sailed for having an entertainment district in Milwaukee. It's something a lot of people mention when they come to town. Drive down 94, and the zoo, State Fair Park, Miller Park, Pto, and then downtown are all spread out. Even downtown, the major attractions are mostly spread out. Really too bad.
  8. You can hit someone on 0-2 pitch, just can't throw a strike
  9. To be fair, Block said the same thing. So classless, Lucroy. So classless. Good question though. Does that rule even apply when the catcher is standing up and/or in a pickle play like that?
  10. April 15th, 5:16 PM. Pre-game meeting- Miller Park, Milwaukee. Kranitz: "Now Marco, remember, all fastballs down the middle tonight." Marco: "But PFx1 HATES that doesn't he coach??" Kranitz: "When I want your opinion I'll ask for it, now get out there and groove everything for me."
  11. I'm 78% sure Ken Macha is posting here under a certain person's name
  12. In other news, Magnifico spun a complete game gem tonight for the Sea Cows
  13. I'm not as excited about a #1 pick as I am about a new ownership group and new arena. There is no LeBron or Durant in this draft, I just don't see any of the top names as big difference makers. The draft is deep, and deep at the top, but there is not that franchise saving type of player I was hoping for.
  14. Tax Day > Snow in April > Zomie Apocalypse > The St. Louis Cardinals
  15. Will Smith is on pace to pitch 95 games. K-Rod and Henderson 88. Thornburg's on pace for 103 innings. These guys are pitching fine now, but this kind of things catches up over 162 games. Part of the reason our good relievers are pitching is that we are winning and games are close. It's understandable you want your best guys out there. But the team is going to have to work in Wang simply to keep the other guys from getting overworked. I think the Braves a couple of years ago were criticized when they overworked their big three relievers. They were brilliant all year, but faltered in September as they all got tired. I understand what you are saying but we both know K-Rod, Thornburg and Henderson's games will go down once we start losing a few more games and when our starters struggle early. We are 10-2 and almost every one of our games has been close so K-Rod and Thornburg are getting a lot of use. Henderson got a lot of use because he needed work through his issues. Even with that K-Rod, Thornburg, and Henderson are 17th, 41st and 41st in games pitched by right handed relief pitchers. Thornburg is tied for 10th in IP which isnt out of line and he has been stretched out as a starter before so I am not nearly as worried. Smith's numbers might need to a come down but the sample size is so small and our start has been so improbable he has had a lot of opportunities in close games. 35 lefties pitched in 60-76 games last year. This year 11 lefties have pitched in as many or more games than Smith and another 17 have one less game. So if Lohse doesnt all that hit last night Smith would have pitched in the same amount or less games 28 lefties. He hasnt been pitching that much more than other relievers Another thing with the stats is relief pitchers usually pitch more in the start of the season because starters are not fully stretched out and/or coaches dont let them go as deep into games. As the season goes along and the weather warms up starters will pitch more and relievers numbers will go down. The numbers do not back up the perception that our bullpen is overworked. Comparatively our pitchers are not pitching more innings that others even though we have consistently been in close games. Good discussion. I would also add Kintzler wasn't being used, and now we know why. So for the last week, they were basically going with 5 arms in the bullpen. Now that Wooten is in the pen, he can take some innings. Gorzelanny will also be back, and can replace Duke or have someone go down with a phantom tired arm type injury for a couple weeks. Lots of ways to manage innings, and I think the Brewers are pretty sensitive to that.
  16. It was worth seeing I guess, nothing different than what I already knew about Dominican players. I'm always curious to know what % of his contract his handlers get, but that wasn't discussed (not that I expected it to be.) I do expect his new nickname in the clubhouse to be Candy Man, Willy Wonka... something like that. My guess is the day after the special he probably had candy all over his locker.
  17. I like the aggressive approach. Segura is not just swinging at a bunch of junk, for the most part he's been swinging at good pitches- he's just not driving the ball. Hitting before Braun he's not going to walk much. With that said, I am a believer in situational baseball. There are times in a game, and in the batting order where it does make sense to take some pitches and force the pitcher to throw strikes. It's more art than science to know when that is, I'll admit. Depends on the opposing pitcher, game situaion, lots of factors. Someone will probably prove me wrong in 5 minutes, but I would guess no team has won the WS with the walk rate the Brewers have right now.
  18. My optimism stems from the fact the rotation and pithcing in general is for real. Will they stay this good? Of course not. Will there be injuries? Sure, already have one with Kintzler. But there is depth this year. Thornburg, Nelson, Smith and Fiers for the rotation. Wooten, Hand, Fiers, Gorzo, and I'm sure others that aren't coming to mind for the pen. That pitching will keep them in the mix all year, and if they still need a bat come August, they can go out and get one. With Ramirez and Weeks coming off the payroll next season, I don't doubt for a minute Mark A would go out and trade for a bat if it's needed. Better yet, that bat may not be a rental.
  19. Well, I like the tradition of the manager going out to argue. Plus, that won't be eliminated anyhow. What happens when a manager blows his challenge, then there's a horrible call the next inning that costs them a run? That will happen. But replay is great because we're getting a few more calls right here and there, yet continue to employ horrible umpires with a wildy inconsistent strike zone.
