  1. Sorry, it's just weird not seeing Yuni's name 187 times every IGT.
  2. I do think it was an intentional tank job, they just didn't want it to look like one by adding guys like Mayo, Neal, Ridnour. I'm not a big Hammonds fan, but don't hate him either. Frankly I don't care if he stays or goes. I think Drew has done a good job, they have played hard for the most part even when it became clear they were an awful team. All except Mayo that is, but can't fault Drew for that. Not sure how you motivate Mayo, short of hanging Big Macs from the rim.
  3. I may be the only 50/50 MU/UW fan, so I can be objective about this hire, and I honestly have no idea if this is a good hire or not. I will say the MU job has a lot going for it, true. But there is also no denying it is not a top-tier job, even though it pays like one. Like it or not, the Big East is now a mid-major conference.
  4. You mean small time schools like UWM (Bo Ryan) or bring in an assistant coach (Shaka Smart) like VCU did? Just two quick examples, but there are a ton of great coaches who started out as an assistant or HC at a smaller program. Wait...come to think of it they ALL did. This "big splash" stuff is great for ESPN, but it doesn't win games or build a program.
  5. Who thinks a 6th started won't be needed at some point in the season? Exactly. That's why having Thornburg in the pen is a non-issue. He will get his starts if he's pitching well out of the pen. This isn't Strasburg we're talking about, nothing is written that Thornburg "deserves" to be in the rotation to start the season, or ever. It's up to him now. He's young, and if he's good enough to be a part of the rotation, he will be there. Same goes for Jimmy Nelson by the way.
  6. Jeter will not be a candidate. Marquette needs to make a splash. Hiring Wardle or Jeter will no nothing to keep recruits / season ticket holders / donors / and help future recruiting. Jeter was on the verge on being fired this season before they got hot in February and March. Latest name being floated around the web is Bruce Weber. Makes sense but not sure how legit the rumors are. They don't need to make a splash, they need a good basketball coach. Not saying Jeter is a great coach, that's another story. I don't want Jeter, just said the UWM connection is there. Whether it's Jeter or anyone else, hopefully they've learned that having a really good coach comes first. I don't think Bo Ryan was a very flashy hire, yet that has turned out alright. Smart was a nobody, now one of the biggest names to always come up when there are coaching vacancies. Winning builds recruiting in my opinion, not the other way around. And please...don't let it be Bruce Weber. I'm hoping that name come up only because he has WI ties.
  7. Since the new President is from UWM, hard not to automatically throw Jeter in the mix as a real possibility.
  8. Meh. You mean the same mock drafts as last year, when none of them were right about the #1 pick in the draft? These guys don't know anything more than we do, it's group think and they feed off each other. Don't get me wrong, I check out the mocks myself. I just wouldn't read too much into it. Fondy, interesting comment comparing him to Sanders. I sort of agree with that, except I think that's his floor. He definitely could be a better offensive player than Sanders, wouldn't take much. The injuries are what scare me. Could be Kansas ws extra-cautious, worried about a mega lawsuit from a guy about to enter the lottery. As of today, I would still go Wiggins, then Parker.
  9. If Smart was smart, I'm sure he reached out to talk to Buzz. My guess is Buzz painted a picture of disarray and may have scraed Smart a bit. Let's face it, no President, no AD, a conference with an uncertain future. None of those things alone are deal breakers, but add it all up and it doesn't shout "great job." But money still talks, so if it isn't Smart they will still get a high quality coach. And it is still a good program, it's not like the Big East is suddenly the Horizon League. It didn't help that MU and Georgetown both had down years the 1st year of the new Big East.
  10. Would be thrilled with Smart or Amaker. Howland or Marshall would be fine. I've been saying it all year, Buzz Williams is not a good coach, glad he's gone. He was a very good recruiter, and he was good at getting his kids to play hard, but that's about it. I want a basketball coach first, recruiter 2nd. Yes, I do understand recruiting is still really important, but I think you need to start with someone who can really coach. Hopefully they can act fast before too many guys decide to transfer or in the case of incoming class de-commit. (or whatever you call it.)
  11. Yes, it's a "regular" arena. I was actually there for tourney games a few years ago. SDSU was one of the teams there. They had a big, loud cheering section then, so guaranteed they'll have that going for them again. Speaking of loud, that WISC/Oregon game was the loudest atmosphere I've ever experienced at the BC.
  12. So, I was lucky enough to get tickets at face value. Problem is, from what I've been hearing, parking will be a nightmare and very, very expensive. Anyone have any suggestions on where to park that is close enough to walk, and not crazy expensive (Lots near the BC, Hyatt, etc. )
  13. That's 90% of it right there. By and large, the brewers have done a good job over the years drafting and developing position players. Not quite as good the last few years, but still not horrible. It's all about pitching, and I can't figure out how much of that is darfting poorly or a void in knowing how to develop them. I'm sure it's a combination. It's why I've been advocating a new position- Senior VP-Pitching. This person would report directly to Melvin, and even have a dotted line direclty to Mark A. Find someone froma strong pitching org, pay them a lot and give them unlimited responsibility to build a scouting dept, pitching development staff, and whatever tools are needed. One thing I've learned over the years is doing something like this is more than symbolic. When you put a laser focus on something, it is more likely to improve. Sorry, OT rant over.
  14. My bad, Verne Lundquist is doing the games with Rafftery.
  15. Yea, and even the Marcum deal looks bad only in hindsight. If Marcum's arm didn't tire at the end of the year, the Brewers may have very well won the WS that year. While I don't agree with every move they make, I generally agree with the approach. Try to field a competitive team every year, then make decisions in the 2nd half of the season based on how things are going. I would be in the camp of tearing it down and rebuilding if/when this organization ever proves it can develop pitching.
  16. We don't get Raff and Gus Johnson for the Milwaukee games, so that's dissapointing. Ian Eagle on TruTV. Really?
  17. Just when I was about to give up on this season, Ho. Ly. Crap. That was wild. I expected them to just leave her behind with food and water, and leave us wondering if she would show up again at some point.
  18. I agree Cougars, Smart is a tweener. This may change tomorrow, but I have changed my mind on the #1, and now like Wiggins over Parker. I have seen them both quite a bit this year, and I think Parker may have the same issue as Smart- he's a bit of a tweener himself. He really needs to be a 3 in the NBA, but I think he will really struggle defensively. On offense, just not sure he'll be able to do a ton on his own off the bounce. He looks a little mechanical to me. Don't get me wrong, a lot to like about him. Wiggins just keeps looking better, and I think his game translates better to the NBA. In a more open offense I thik Wiggins will really shine.
  19. Pretty much a given since the day Garza was signed, the rotation was locked. Definitely more depth this year, both for the rotation and the bully.
  20. Knowing the Bucks, I think they take Smart if they get the #3 pick. I just don't know enough about Exum to now if that would be a big mistake passing on him. Trading down at that point would make sense too, I would be fine trading down and getting Vonleh and Ennis as an example. Philly and Orlando have multiple picks and could be trading partners. They could also use a combination their three 2nd round picks and/or players (Henson, Sanders come to mind) to trade UP and have 2 lottery picks. Parker and Ennis would be nice.
  21. Wow, opens the door for Marquette too. Now if only someone can upset Creighton....cuz there's no way Marquette can beat them.
  22. Don't live in Milw are anymore, so can't help. It is interesting though how opinions vary. I wanted to give thumbs up to BWW, I actually like their wings. (Don't like Hooters.) Do they have Tilted Kilt in the Milw area yet? That's a good place to watch a game, good food too- including wings. Personally, I like my wings very well done- probably over done. BWW ususally makes them that way pretty consistently. That's the biggest problem I run into at a lot of local places. They may be bigger, they have good flavor...but if there's a layer of blubber I can't eat it.
  23. This time of year always reminds me of how the term "mid-major" conference is used, and why it annoys me for some reason. The Horizon for example, is not a mid-major. It's not even a major conf period. The Big East isn't even a mid-major, it's a low-major. I think this term has been used so long, nobody pays attention to it anymore. I should have put this in the "What's bugging you" thread, but it is hoops related. I'm guessing I'm the only one bothered by this?
  24. Yea, too bad. I said in here a week or two ago they had a legit shot at a #1, and it turns out they did. Not a big diff between 1/2 though. They need to avoid losing the 1st game in the Big 10 tourney. I can see them getting upset early or making a big run. Then again, that's no different than any of the other top teams. They all have flaws. Tough game in NE, I wasn't even upset by that loss. I'm pretty sure the Heat would have lost going into that place that night.
