  1. Caron Butler is done based on a few minutes in the first pre-season game? I guess Aaron Rodgers is done too. Look, Butler didn't cost much and he can be easily moved at any time. In the meantime, by all acccounts, he has been great to have around the young guys. That's about as important right now for the Bucks than anything else. We need to remember, they have barely installed the offense. New coach, almost all new players, etc. It won't look pretty at first. But this team could get close to .500 and make the playoffs. I know, I know, #8 seed and done again. The difference this year is they have young players with talent, and the vets are very easy to move if it comes to that. Meanwhile, they'll find out what they have to build on. I much rather take this approach than tanking, which has almost never worked. OKC is the only team I can think of where that has worked in the last 10 years or more.
  2. Exactly. That's why they ended it so well. Everything is tied up, yet there are a few things left to debate. WIll Walt Jr. accept the $ when he's old enough? Will Skyler go back to Ted? Does Jesse go to take care of Brock?, etc.
  3. I know this stating the obious for most here, but doesn't it depend on what you get back for Aoki? I just don't see why you would trade him just for the sake of trading him, since he has such a reasonable salary. But if you can get a good eal in return, then why not? Basically, it's how I look at every player on the roster. Anyone is tradeable as long as you get the return you're looking for. If Aoki stays, he would be a great #4 OF and get plenty of ABs. If you trade him, that role goes to Gindl. Either way, I'm fine with it. I don't care what happens with Schaefer, he's not the type of player you go out of your way to find a spot. If he makes the team as the #5 OF, great. If not, go back to Nashville. Really shouldn't affect any decisions you're making about the OF.
  4. Final episode was mostly predictable, which was fine with me. They stayed true to the characters, plot, etc. right to the end. Writing, casting, acting, directing...just fantastic. Optional final scene could have been Marie killing Walt, or at least be there to see him die. That would have worked, but I'm sure it was discussed. At least it wasn't something crazy like Walt Jr. killing his dad, or Walt killing his his family, etc. Any of that would have beena surprise, but wouldn't be true to the show.
  5. I think Melvin and Mark A. view each season as two seasons. Try to put a competitive team on the field to start the year. If all goes well, make a deal in July/August for a playoff run. Not only do they say it, they've done it in the past. So I don't see why they would go out and sign a middle of the rotation type of guy to a long term contract, when they now have young guys that can do this at a fraction of the price. The other alternative is to acquire a top of the rotation starter. Although they've been willing to do that in the past also, I just don't see it happening this year. IF Yo and Estrada can pitch like they are right now in the first half of next year, they should be hanging around .500. Then we'll see if a move is made to make a run.
  6. No math whiz here, but I think that's why it's called an average. Yes, there are diferent size households, geography, lots of things that vary. That's why the number is an AVERAGE which takes into account all these factors. As with all stats, it's always about what you do with the number that gets tricky. In this case, I think the proper way to look at this number is how it compares historically, whether it's up or down, etc. Anything more than that will give you misleading connections. As you said, whatever the number is it will sound too low for a family of 15 in Manhatten, yet sound pretty good to a single person in TN. Uh..yeah...I understand what the word AVERAGE means. However, it's meaningless if you take the average of completely different sets of objects. This stat seems to have about as much meaning to me as taking the combined average speed of all horses, sloths, and humans. Yes, I'll grant you the amount is pretty meaningless, but I don't think this how this stat should be used. The important thing is the trend, comparison to the past, etc. Because all those other factors have always been true throughout the years, that is a constant. Point being, don't get too hung up on the number itself, rather how it compares to recent months and historically over the years. Even at that, it's not the "be all end all" but it does show us something.

  8. It's been a long time since so many positions were up for grabs going into a new season. And 1B leads the pack. Just look at all the names listed in this thread, it's double digits! I rule out Lucroy, Braun, and Davis. There are plenty of options available without converting someoneand living with poor defense there. Speaking of poor defense, add Francisco to the "no" list. I also don't want to sign a "reasonable" FA. There are other options, and maybe more in 2015 and beyond. No need for another 3-4 year contract at $5MM+ per year. Morris has to be kicking himself. With all the injuries at 1B he still never got a shot, and that could have even hurt him at the plate this year, who knows. But there's no way you can count on him jumping up and taking the job. Halton is a viable option, hopefully he plays every day down the stretch so we'll know a little more. That leaves Hart, Gamel, and to a lessor extent Green. We need to remember Hart's OPS last year was .841. It all depends on how cheap you can sign him for, but that would be a viable option. Not to mention he played great defensively at 1B. Gamel you can't count on, of course, but I haven't given up on him yet. A LH bat with some pop is something worth seeing through to the end. Same with Green for that matter. Not to mention one of those guys could transition over to 3rd in 2015 if they really come on next year. So, I would go with some combination of Hart or Halton/Gamel, but hopefulkly that picture will get more clear by February.
  9. I've been thinking about this a lot, since there's a lot of different ways to put the OF together next year. I'm open to a few options, but I think what I prefer best is: LF Davis CF Gomez RF Braun 4thOF Gindl 5thOF Schaefer Not the greatest starting corner OF defensively, but I would like to start out the year giving Davis a full time position. Gindl could still be a late inning defensive replacement, PH, and get some starts here and there. But it's a long season, and he should get plenty of ABs. May even end up starting depending on how he's hitting vs how Davis doing. I do like Aoki, but they have younger, cheaper options that should be able to put up similar numbers and give you better defense as well.
  10. It's interesting, after all the ups and downs this year, 2014 rotation will be almost exacty the same as it was going into this season. Only difference, which is a positive, is that instead of Fiers, Burgos, Rogers as your 5-7 starters you have Thornburg, Nelson, Hellweg. Plus you still have these other guys like Fiers and Burgos coming back. Certainly a lot of depth, they just need someone, Peralta maybe, to establish himself as an ace.
  11. I agree with these hotel choices, and would add The Iron Horse Hotel. Milwaukee is definitely not a walking city like NY. Depending on what you're interested in seeing/doing the city is pretty spread out. You would need a cab to get to the zoo, casino, Miller Park, some of the restaurants, etc. However, if you strictly stay downtown, you could get away with no renting a car. Many ways to get to Miller Park from your hotel. Depending on when you'll be in town, you definitely need to get down to the Summerfest grounds.
  12. If 3 out of 4 of these guys become a quality big league starter, the Brewers would be ecstatic. Depends what you mean by "quality" of course, but this franchise needs 1 or 2 of these guys to be better than "quality" pitchers, they need a stud or two. If Yo and Lohse are the #3 and #4 guys in the rotation, that's when you know this team will be a true contender. The history of the Brewers tells us that isn't likely to happen, but maybe it's just the law of averages that says at some point the stars align and a top of the rotation pitcher or two can be developed from within?
  13. Haven't you heard? They have changed it to a Yuni inspired restaurant. It's called Yuni's Betan Food Court.
  14. Good question, I just assumed if I left TWC (incl internet service) I would lose my email with them. Now I'm going to look into this. Still have an issue with multiple TVs, until I'm forced to do so I just don't want to pay for multiple boxes every month. I realize I'm not getting a good HD picture on my other sets, but I don't mind because I don't watch those sets. Wife and kids don't care, so as long as the "main" TV has HD, that's all that counts. In my set-up I would need at least 4 boxes, even using wireless boxes. So that's an extra $21 a month just for boxes.
  15. Not in blue, I'm serious. Whenever I visit Chicago, I stop at the original Billy Goat for lunch and thank them for the curse.
  16. I don't think this statements will change anyone's mind. Those that think none of this is big deal have already forgiven him, or nver had much of a problem with any of this to begin with. Likewise, those that are upset haven't been given what they're looking for. He needed /needs to have a full blown press conference and face tough questions. Sure, will never change everyone's opinion either. Hard to say, since it hasn't happened. It is interesting that he was more than willing to hold a press conference when he was proclaiming his innocence. Look, I try really hard not to get involved in this "off the field" stuff. However, Braun's actions already had had an effect on the field, and will next season as well. I won't ever completely get over it, but at least I could move on from this fiasco if he came out in public and answered the tought questions, didn't couch his statements, and let it all out there. Do you feel you earned/ should keep your MVP award? Did you suggest to others that the collector was anti-semitic? Was this the only time you ever used PEDs? Are you more upset that you used them, or got caught? I could go on, but these are some of the questions I want him to be asked. It's not just the answers that are important to me, it's how he answers them. This written apology seems very corporate to me, and really doesn't mean anything. Either Braun really isn't sorry for any of this, or he his agent is using the worst PR people on the face of the earth.
  17. Not sure if you could be more condescening, but I doubt it. If you don't agree the Braun saga has no effect on signing players, making trades, or extending current players, fine. I'm sure most people would agree with you. I don't think the points I made are actually that crazy. Why were the trades far an few between at the deadline? Maybe for a few reasons, I bet the whole Biogenesis thing had an effect. Teams may have been very gun-shy about trading for a problem. Do you really believe players wants to stay in Milwaukee, or come to Milwaukee with Braun as the face of the franchise? This isn't some relief pitcher who's on the list. Like I said, money always talks loudest. But I don't think too many players would choose to be part of that clubhouse these days. Playing in a home stadium where the face of the franchise is getting boo'd at home, and worse on the road. And the ones who are on the roster, their performance won't be affected one bit? But if you want to believe Braun will have no effect whatsoever on wins and losses next year if he's still around, be my guest. As for Braun's no trade clause, why is that an issue? I would think he would jump at the chance to start fresh elsewhere, especially if it's clear that's what MArk A., fans, media, etc. wants. Of course you're not going to get "fair" value. But I would jump at "damaged goods" value right now. Some of you guys have no idea how bad this is going to be.
  18. Several ways. First, how excited do you think Free Agents are to sign with the Brewers and the Brain sideshow? Sure, money talks, but if things are close I don't think too many players WANT to be on the Brewers, they way they did for a few years now. Milwaukee was finally a viable destination, Fun clubhouse, nice park, starting to win. Not anymore. Ditto for current players. Will Segura or other players be billing to sign a long term deal now? Maybe, but I bet they're thinking twice. Braun will have effect on trades also. Very well he may already HAVE had an effect on trades at the deadline this year. Why? In business, you smell weakness. If you know there's turmoil going on in Milwaukee, you may not offer as much in return. That's what happens when you negotiate ina position of weakness. Finally, I think attendance will suffer. Some of you don't realize how upset a whole lot of Brewer fans are. Whther they should be this upset or not is irrelevant. They are, and that will translate to lower ticket sales. Especuilly coming off a losing season. Less revenue = less money to spend on the roster. Those are all tangible ways Braun's actions will have on wins and losses. Not to mention the intangibles of 24 other players having to deal with this circus all year.
  19. I've heard lots of good things about it. But stuckwith TWC because I have many TVs in the house, and don't want to pay for a bunch of boxes. Also, the trmendous pain of changing my email address. If it wasn't for those two things, would have changed a long time ago.
  20. I don't want to convince you, or anyone, how seriously you should be taking it. Personally, I DO take it very seriously because it has a direct effect on wins and losses next year and years to follow. And that's why we're all on this site to begin with.
  21. Well, I've seen many people here claim that PEDs had little effct on his results. So if that's true, we can't have it both ways. If he is really that talented, some teams would want that talent. With that said, there are teams out there who may want him. Look at the tough AL East. Teams like Toronto and Baltimore may be willing to take a risk having to compete with the big boys every year. Marlins? Sure, why not? There are no doubt others, but those are the teams that immediatley come to mind. I was waiting to calm down, but I am more furious than ever. I seriously want him gone even if they can't trade him. Not sure some people here (this isn't directed at you personally) really understand how bad this circus is going to be, and how many Brewer fans want him gone. As I said about 80 pages ago in this thread, sometimes it's better to just rip the band-aid off and move on.
  22. I have to say, I'm amazed how far some of you are going to defend Braun. Every day that goes by it looks like Braun went to even further disgusting lengths to cover his tracks. Non of us know this Sasson guy or his motivations. But based on everything else we're learning, I don't doubt for a minute Braun told him to call the media and lie to help Braun out. No, we don't know that. We may never know one way or another. But it falls in line with everything else that happened here. Telling friends to lie, and then burning them when they don't act like an obedient entourage? Wow Ryan. Then you're quick to judge ESPN for reporting the anti-Sematic strategy. Well, now other media outlets are reporting the same thing. Could it all be BS? Sure. But at this point, again, it pretty much falls in line with everything else Braun has said and done to cover his tracks. Well, I for one want to know if these things are true. If Braun gives some sort of general "I apologize" without being specific, it's not good enough. With these new stories hanging out there, I'm done with him forever unless Braun cites these specific people and "sincerely" apologizes. Even then I'll be luke-warm at best. As every day goes by, I'm becoming more convinced the Brewers need to trade him to the MArlins or whoever for whatever they can get. 2014 season and beyond is going to be awful to watch with the Braun sideshow going on.
  23. No, as long as Braun is on the roster they can't truly move on.
  24. Wow, I forgot "Trains, Planes, & Automobiles." Use lots of lines from that movie!
  25. Surprised nobody wanted Lohse. Or at least badly enough to give Melvin what he needed to trade him. Veteran guy who's been there before, seems like a perfect arm to add to the rotation for a contender. Especially with how well he's been pitching lately.
