  1. Hoping Morris wins the 1B job. Gindl can be the 5th OF, backup at 1B, Maldonado can pla ythere too, plus Halton as an emergency. Just hoping Morris tears it up this spring, I don't want any combo of Reynolds/Overbay/Francisco/Ike Davis/Yuni/Joey Meyer/Mark Brouhard at 1B.
  2. Well, I'm not convinced Henderson will have another strong season, given the short shelf-life of Brewers' closers. Or any closers for that matter. It if very diffiuclt to build a great bullpen with any level of certainty. So, you do it with quantity. They have enough arms now that they should be able to ctach lightning with a couple guys and have a solid enough bullpen. If they do have a chance to make a run in August, you can always go out and get a bullpen arm without giving up much. Personally, I think they have way too many question marks to be considered "going for it" this year.
  3. Bob Uecker- #0. No, that's not in blue. And he would get a kick out of the #0. I think some teams retire way too many jerseys in all sports, and there's no way any Brewer past or current qualifies. Braun COULD eventually, but he's not there yet.
  4. As others have said, I'm not worried about the young arms not getting enough starts. We have a long way to go befor April, much less September. So we can all pencil in the rotation, but it doesn't mean anything today. Injuries will happen, just a matter of when, how many, and for how long. By the end of the year Thornburg and Nelson will have their opportunities. Hoping Morris has a good spring and starts at 1B on opening day, and that will abut complete what I wanted to see in the off-season.
  5. This is what happens when you refuse to play zone. Not that playing all man is the only problem on defense, but mixing in some zone would help.
  6. Yea, I would like to believe that too. Then again, it's exactly what they did just one year ago with Harris/Reddick.
  7. So Marquette plays Dawson/Taylor, Derek Wilson,Anderson sit and they win. What a concept. Too bad it took Buzz until the end of January to figure this out.
  8. Two are struggling, but UW- Green Bay is doing just fine. They are really fun to watch too, Phi Slamma Jamma.
  9. Those comments really scare me. Good lord, I can see it now. Bucks trade the #1 overall pick for Paul Pierce. If they love Smart that much, that scares me too. I like him a lot, but in this draft there are at least 5 guys above him I would take. Then again, to be fair, Hammond has drafted pretty well. Giannis was a great pick. Harris, Jennings... really a pretty good track record. Just hoping those comments are meant as miss-direction. A pump-fake if you will.
  10. Yea, add Knight to that mix also. That would have been a pretty nice "green and growing" team to watch. Sanders could still be a part of that, but I have my doubts.
  11. This one is on Bo. I know WI hardly ever plays zone, but if there ever was a game when they needed to go zone, this was it. Also, Jackson needed to stay low on the picks, but kept going around the top of them. That's just basketball 101, no reason Bo shouldn't have seen this and made the correction. On offense, most (maybe all) of the 3s they took were good shots if I remember right. So hard to argue, except they had a lot of guys on the court who had the advantage posting up. Or driving into the lane. Just bad game management. You get up by 10, that's when it's time to start drawing fouls and get in the bonus. I did see this one coming, but as bad as IN shot the ball from outside, this should have been a relatively easy win for WI.
  12. Too late. They aren't even close to being a bubble team, RPI is way down the list. Their only shot is to win the Big East tourney. That's possible, they just need to get as high a seed as possible, and get hot at the right time. Not like they'll do anything in the big dance, but it would be nice to keep the tourney streak alive. Really hope they can pull it off, legit chance for WI to have 3 teams in the tourney then. No discussion about UW-GB here, but that is a solid team righ there. UWM is no slouch either. (Insert Judge Smailes reference here.)
  13. Yea Johnson's shot is ugly, but he's still shooting 48%! Yea, that's a lot of lay-ups but that proves my point of why he should be playing PG- at least this year. He can penetrate, create his own shot, score in transition, etc. Also, he's really good at the line- yet another thing Derek Wilson is horrible at. Plus, I would bet anything JuJuan Johnson would have a higher Assist/minute ratio at PG than Derek Wilson has right now. Someone mentioned earlier about D Wilson being a great defender, and I don 't see that either. He's solid, but it's not like you put D Wilson on the other team's best perimeter player and he can lock him down. J Johnson is more athletic, and longer- no reason not to believe he would play just as well defensively. Buzz just has too many players on the court at the same time that simply can't score, so I have no idea why he wouldn't play a guy who can.
  14. Looks like Buzz is going to go down with the ship. That ship is the SS Derek Wilson. By all accounts, he's a great kid. He also hust happens to be athe worst player on the roster, and he gets the most minutes. Jake Thomas isn't much better, but at least he can do something nobody else on this roster can do- hit a couple 3s here and there. Jajuan Johnson is not getting playing time, yet he is cleraly better in almsot every way than either Wilson/Thomas. Heck, I would even take Dawson over Derek Wilson- seriously. Why can't JaJuan Johnson and/or Mayo play some PG? What exactly does Derek Wilson do, other than dribble the ball up the court, then he becomes one more guy on the perimeter that passes the ball back and forth and never (and shouldn't) takes a shot? Even when he drives he rarely finishes, and has areally low assist/minute also. So it's not like he's even a good distributor. If some of these guys aren't busting it in practice, fine, don't start them. I get that. But to limit their minutes, or not play them at all? I've waited a long time to say this, because I've been searching for a logical reason. But I've seen almost every MU game now, and whatever Derek Wilson does that he needs to be on the floor 30 minutes a game escapes me.
  15. Exactly. Especially in December. Who knows if any of these pitchers gets injured in Spring Training, is just flat-out ineffective, etc. If any of these young pitchers start out in the pen, or even in Nashville I don't see a problem with that. If all of them are lights-out in Spring Training, I certainly don't see a problem with that either. If the biggest issue the Brewers have is how you find spots in the rotation for a bunch of outstanding young pitchers coming off spectacular ST performance, we're in pretty good shape. Also, remember that one of these guys could become a closer at some point in the next couple years.
  16. Wow, now there's some hot stove optimism. I'm laughing right now because that comment of mine isn't far fetched at all. The Brewers a couple years ago had the second best offense in baseball and if you take ball park size out of the equation they had the number 1 offense with worse players than they have now. Since then we added Segura and Davis, and Gomez has met his potential. Well, they also had a guy named Prince Fielder then...
  17. Wow, now there's some hot stove optimism.
  18. Jamil Wilson = Tim Thomas. Jamil reminded me of somebody, and I couldn't put my finger on it- you nailed it! Nice to see Jake Thomas hit some 3s, and look confident. If he and Mayo can be consistent shooters, that makes this a completely different team- and a much better team. Then you can live with Derrick Wilson at PG. I hope Dawson pushes him for playing time regardless. How does the red-shirt rule work? If Duane Wilson isn't ready to go until Feb, seems like a good idea to red-shirt him. Maybe it depends on how Dawson plats, and they can make that decision later? Again, not sure how this works.
  19. Badgers looked good. Jackson's jumper looks nice, and he shot with a lot of confidence. Someone always steps up every year, looks like it's Dukan this year. Question about MU. Why does Buzz play everybody in these early games? It must be hard to evaluate guys when they come in for 2 or 3 minutes at a time. Just seems to be that he would be better off taking turns playing each freshman and older role players. For example, give Burton a ton of minutes one game, then Juan Anderson the next. That's just one example, but he always has guys coming in and out constantly. Still waiting to see if any returning MU players step up their game. I didn't see any improvement from Derrick Wilson, Anderson, Steve Taylor, or Jake Thomas. One game, I know.
  20. I know what you're saying, but cmon be fair about it. They didn't have Sanders, Sova, Knight, Ridnour, or Delfino. They can still win with scoring coming from other places, most of these guys are capable of having a big scoring game on any given night. With that short of a bench, I thought it was an impressive win, regardless of who it was against. Wolters is really growing on me, he has better PG skills than I saw during summer league. He already plays pick and roll 10 times better than Jennings ever did or will.
  21. After 3 games, it looks like you guys are getting your wish. Of course, they would never SAY they are tanking, but No Sanders or Sova at the end of any of these games? Maybe Larry you can explain away saying he can't provide offense they needed. Bu they did just pay him to be on the court way more than he has been. And Sova is certainly a better option at the end of games than most of the guys that have been out there. Add in a conspiracy theory to explain Ridnour's back spasms...something just tells me there wil alwyas be guys all year who have some sort of injury. Just enough of all of this to not look overly suspicious, but lose a ton of games. Not that they have to try too hard to do that.
  22. Even more troubling is Sanders was on the bench most of the game, and Sova's minutes were limited. You would think Henson would have even more minutes. As for Middelton, I don't see the harm in finding out if you have something there. Isn't that what this season is about? Giannis doesn't need a ton of minutes every game at this point. He's in the picture, you know that already. Middelton though, you don't know if he fits any long term role. He did have one pre-season game where he went off, so I'm sure that's what they see. Just like so many guys, can he consistently score? Probably not, but they have him so may as well find out for sure.
  23. What a mess! At least you eventually got paid, and I'm sure you get satisfaction seeing him go under. Don't worry about the tax man, he will find this guy and he'll hae to pay up. He can't hide behind the business. Otherwise, every shady character out there could open up a business, never pay any taxes, bankrupt the company and never owe anything. All of this takes time, but ultimately he will have to pay up, face jail time, or both.
  24. Back in the day they used to say the exact same thing about Green Bay. And the Milwaukee Brewers. Trwi7, if you want to argue FA don't want to come to Green Bay, good luck. Ted Thompson obviously doesn't want to sign many FA, but that's a different story. I'm not saying the Bucks will suddenly become the Lakers or Celtics in terms of a destination for FA. But if they build into a winner with young talent, they may be able to get a top shelf FA.
  25. Besides, you've forgotten about Orlando (Howard), Miami, Denver (Anthony), Utah (D Williams), NOH (Paul), and LAC (Griffin) who all "tanked" and got top picks. No, I haven't forgotten about them. Throw in LeBron too. And how many of those guys helped their team win a ring? How many even made it to the finals? Those are all very good players, but hardly worth tanking a season for. Especially when you're trying convince the public, politicians, and investors to build a new arena. Outlander's post above lists true difference makers. True superstars like Jordan, Duncan, Olajuwan, Kobe, etc. And even half of the guys on that list were not the #1 pick. So, in order to get a guy like that you need to tank the right year, then get the right ping bong ball, then guess right on which guy is a true superstar. Now, if you are lucky enough to do all that, he is joinming a horrible roster. By the time it is built up, said superstar leaves. Burn down the house to be able to draft Deron Williams?? No thanks. I don't mind having a young team, with the vets contracts easy to move. And keep building from there. Maybe you stumble into a great player or two drafting lower down, maybe they already have. Keep getting better, and at some point maybe Milwaukee is an intriguing place for a top FA. Look, I'm not Hammonds apologist- he's made plenty of mistakes. And no matter which way they try to build it will be very difficult.
