  1. Caldwell-Pope would be my guy, but I really doubt he'll be there. I'm fine with Larkin, mostly because there's a limited down-side. That is, worst case, he can certainly be a back-up PG in the NBA. Ceiling isn't real high, but he could be an ok starting PG. (I'm picturing his current NBA comp, just not coming up with his name!) I would even be ok with Muhammed. That deep in a poor draft year, I would be ok taking a flyer on pure talent. Obviously, the Bucks have been doing homework, talking to him, probably a PI involved hired by the NBA, etc. So they would/should know more about his character than we do. Bottom line, I want either a real safe pick like LArkin, or gamble on someone with huge upside. No middle of the road guy that has a low floor and limited ceiling.
  2. Well, I'm not pretending Jennings is as good of a player as Chris Paul. I also never said playing on a bad team/ limited offensive players was the ONLY reason for Jennings/Ellis poor shooting %. But you're saying it's not a factor at all? Again, with Ellis, maybe I would buy that. But I honestly believe Jennings could be more of a true PG with more offensive weapons around him. He has shown willingness to do that in a whole lot of games over his career.
  3. There is no "best music" since 1989. Yes I am old. That is all.
  4. Yea, and a lot of the players on that list are in the same position as Jennings/Ellis. That is, someone on the team needs to provide the offense. For example, if Jennings was on the Heat or Spurs do you honestly think he would take that many shots? Of course not. These guys are all a product of their environment to some degree.
  5. I think it's a little unfair to call out Ellis and especially Jennings for beinf chuckers. Look at the surrounding cast. Shot clock is going down and you have great offensive options like Sanders, The Prince, etc. Even guys like Dunleavy and Reddick can't really creat their own shot very well. Sure, Ellis will be a bit of a chuck no matter what. But I think if he played point, he could reign in his shots when he's not hot. Jennings has already proven that throughout his young career. He has no problem taking a back-seat scoring wise, it's just that in a lot of games there aren't many other options. I kind of like Monta at point, I wouldn't want him back at the two. My first preference would be Jennings, as long as it isn't a huge contract. And I think that still might be posible, because I just don't see anyone offering him a mega-deal. He's still very young, and could be the #2 or #3 best player on a legit contender. The problem, of course, is that it's very hard to see where a true #1 will come from.
  6. If I remember right, the "Can Bill Hall pitch" guy was the same poster as WOAH SOLVDD. Man that guy was prolific.
  7. Sorry if this is in the wrong thread, but does anyone have info on the top Wisconsin prospects for the draft, and what round they're likely to be picked?
  8. Is anyone else bothered by RR's reaction to this? I'm sick of his attitude that any questions about Braun are a "non-issue." Really Ron? I don't care if you think he's guilty or not, either way your HOF LF is about to be suspended for a very long time. I wouldn't call that a non-issue.
  9. First, the idea that Scooter will bring out swarms of fans is unrealistic. I love to new players coming up, it is exciting to see how they will do no matter who they are. You know what? I'm in the minority, and I'm not planning to go to a game any time soon. Sure, people will come out to see Braun, Fielder, Verlander (sorry couldn't find A Brewer pitcher equivalent) But Scooter or Josh Prince? Absolutely not. Now, on to Scooter. He can't be a utility guy- period. And that has nothing to do with projections. He simply can't and never will be able to play SS, and 3B would even be a big reach That's not a shot. That's not rooting against him, it's just a fact. You just can't have a guy who can only play 2B as your Utility IF. What about platoon? In my opinion, ideally I don't like a platoon as 2B. But sure you can do it for a while, at this point why not? But long term, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. That leaves full time starter. In order for him to be an every day player, he would need to hit over .300. He has no power, and defense is average at best for an MLB 2B. He could get better defensively sure, but that remains to be seen. Simply doesn't walk enough or have enough power to play every day unless he hits .300, and that's unfair to expect from anyone coming into the league. It's not impossible, but not likely. I am NOT rooting against him. As a Trats regular, I would love to see him be the first Trat to become a full time starter with the Brewers. I'm rooting for him. I just don't see how he fits long term.
  10. Well Gennett is no gold-glover either. The only thing that makes sense to me is Melvin may have a buyer for Weeks. Go the rest of the season with the Gennett/Bianchi at 2B, not that it matteers anymore. At this point, the salary dump alone would be a good reason to trade Weeks. And his body of work could very well be enough for a couple GMS out there to take a chance that the old "change of scenery" could turn Weeks around. It would also fit in perfectly with the Brewers sell low philosophy.
  11. I've said for years they need to do 3 things. They've had success certain years without them, but to be consistently successful, they need to do these three things. 1) Establish position of VP- Pitching. The franchise will never compete consistently, and never have a legit shot at the WS title without developing their own pitching. This person would be virually on the same level as the GM, maybe half-step below. Responsible for scouting and developing pitching. Should be given any and all resources he needs in terms of personnel, technology, etc. This could lead anywhere from mechanics, to developing certain pitches, mindset, etc. Yes, they already have people devoted to pitching, but putting somone in charge witha laser focus on pitching is what's needed here. Tear down whatever is known and start from the ground-up. Every detail. Who would it be? No idea, but I'm thinking there must be someone in the Cards, Dodgers, Giants. etc. org that would be a perfect fit. 2) Vastly improve international program. True, the Brewers are improving there, but were late to the party and still have a lot of catching up to do. The future of MLB is international players, pretty easy to see. 3) Move the walls back and/or up at MP. Goes along with developing pitchers, and then keeping them. Tough home park for rookie pitchers to have to deal with. Plus, when you have guys like Braun, Segura, Gomez, Aoki, etc. they would have a lot more doubles and triples. There are way too many ground rule doubles at MP. Look at the teams that win the WS every year, almost always pitchers parks. Maybe a coincidence , but I doubt it. It's the mindset of an organization that pitching is priority #1.
  12. This is the approach most here would use, more or less. I see serious problems with reviewing all close plays. Why? It would be up to 15 different review umps every night to decide what is a close play. This would force some of them to review more plays that necessary. Others would rush the decision under the pressure of timely response. You could easily have several replays every inning which would get to be crazy. Gomez gets hit in the hand, or was it the bat? Let's review. Next pitch he dribbles one down the line, 3B picks it up and throws him out. Waas it fair or foul? Was Gomez out or safe at 1B. Wait, he was safe. Now where do the runners go who were at 2nd and 3rd? Now he stea;s 2nd. Or did he? That's just ONE of many scenerios that play out every single game, it's not far-fethced at all. Eben if it took 30 seconds to review each one, it would ruin the flow of the game and just get ugly.
  13. I vote NO on instant replay. In a perfect worls, yes I would want to use it more in MLB. But it is far froma perfect world. I see lots of good ideas here, honestly, really good ideas on how replay COULD/SHOULD work. But every night you have 15 different replay umpires making these decisoins. You will have some that want to review everything. You will have umps who take forever. Others who rush to make a call, because they know the pressure is on from the top to not dealy the game very long. So calls will get rushed, and they'll still get it wrong. Plus, there's the whole issue of what is reviewable- just like the NFL. So if you are truly going to review everything other than balls/strikes that are close plays, it would get ridiculous in a hurry. On the flip side, if you only review fair/foul, etc., then the one type of play not reviewable will surely be the reason for a lost game. Too bad, not reviewable. It's a slippery slope that would be even worse in MLB because of all the close plays on the bases. You may argue there's not THAT many really close plays. But what if the replay ump feels otherwise? Same thing will happen in MLB that happens in the NFL. Instead of complaining about the officials on the field, we'll be complaining about the officials in the booth. I really don't want artificial delays in the game just because "x" amount more calls are correct. Either it's nearly foolproof, or it isn't. And if it isn't, just leave well enough alone.
  14. It's not even exciting off the bench. I can't imagine burning a roster spot for a bench player who can only play 2B.
  15. In any event, Gennett really should be playing 3rd and short right now in AAA. There is no prospect there that HAS to get those at bats and if nothing else, Gennett can be a very good utility player. Though I do still believe he's a everyday starter on a good team in the big leagues. Gennett can be a very good utility IF? I don't think so, and neither does the organization. If they did, they would have been doing this a long time ago. Truth is, he's just now becoming a decent defensive 2B. He does not have the range, arm, or athletitic ability to be a really good defensive SS. Maybe 3B, I don't know. No real need for a Utility IF who can't play SS. Look, I like Scooter. I really do. Watched him play a ton of games as a Timber Rattler, and you could tell he would moe through the system. I'm just really struggling to find a place for a guy who plays avg defense at one position, has no power, and doesn't walk much. That skill set rarely translates to success in MLB. Some of those IF singles and other hits he's getting now will be outs at the MLB level. You have to hit a ton of singles to have any sort of decent OPS.
  16. My initial reaction would be to tell them I'm not Mother Nature, so I can't control which way the wind blows. BUT, I've learned over the years I feel better taking the high road. Empathize with your neighbor, yea I understand it must suck to smell the smoke since you're a non-smoker, etc. But I am not going to walk out of my own house to smoke, and certainly not ask my guests to do so. So sorry, I hope you find I'm otherwise a good neighbor and would like to help out here, I just don't see anything realistic to solve the problem. This way, you can hold you head up high- you are the bigger person. If the neighbor is still upset, now it's on them. If you go the "screw you" route, you may have other neighbors turn against you also.
  17. I don't see a need for either Gonzalez or Lalli. One will be gone when Hart gets back, but why wait? Yuni, Maldanado, and I'm assuming Bianchi can all play 1B. So why do we need a 3rd catcher? We now have 4 SS, so what do you need Gonzalez for? If they want to wait to make a move when Hart gets back, that's ok I guess (although I wouldn't wait.) But even at that, there's no reason to keep both Gonzalez and Lalli around for another month. They need a LH bat off the bench. Not sure who this is, but there must be someone around in the system or elsewhere better than Lalli's bat?? And Gonzalez....well he has no purpose whatsoever on this roster. Another bullpen arm would even be a better option than Gonzalez.
  18. Consensus seems to be Gennett will be a bench player, but that doesn't make sense to me. All he can play is 2B, so he really doesn't project as a utility IF. Plus he's a very avg defensive 2B, avg speed, very little power. Bottom line, he's a one tool player. But if you're going to have a tool, it may as well be hitting. That alone could give him a shot at starting at some point. It's going to take timing, right place/ right time type of thing. He may never get the chance, because i don't see the Brewers or any team going out of their way to clear a spot at 2B for him to start and play there every day.
  19. I just hope they keep sending the "Hit HR" sign to Yuni and Gomez.
  20. Well, Auggie also said Yuni was an oustanding defensive player at SS, and his bat is just a bonus. Look, if the biggest problem the Brewers have a month from now is how to get Yuni more ABs, we're in a good place. So much can happen between now and then. I just can't believe Yuni can maintain numbers close to this, but we'll see.
  21. Now that the month is over, results are in. Caros Gomez is 4th in the NL in OPS. Carlos Gomez. 4th. Yet that is still a tie with anything Yuni has done, including being tied for club lead in RBI.
  22. I have always wanted them to move the walls back a couple feet, especially in the power alleys. But it's not a joke park.
  23. Actually, that's true. My uncle taught me how to throw a break a ball when I was 12.
  24. What is Augie laughing about? He could never in his wildest dreams get that disclaimer right.
