  1. He's not really fooling anyone, we'll get some runs...Marcum just needs to settle down.
  2. For not following the Brewers all year, these announcers seem to really understand the Brewers.
  3. These people have a job to do. They need to clean up all the lots, plus all the secuity personnel have to hang around until everyone leaves. If they didn't try to enforce this, people would be there for hours after a game. They are parking lots for a game, not just some general area to hang out as long as you want. I can't argue about the roof, not sure why it was closed. But on a scale of 1-10 of things I care about, it's less than 1.
  4. Peer pressure is a problem. 99% of the fans think you HAVE to throw it back, not realizing it's a Wrigley thing. Just as I refuse to do the Wave, I would refuse to throw the ball back. I saw this a couple years back. The guy (maybe even one of our very own from BF) told everyone around him that's a Cubs thing and he won't do it. Got booed, peanuts and stuff thrown at him...just stupid.
  5. Back to the Kotsay IBB, why not bring in a lefty to pitch to Kotsay? Get a K, or at least force RR to burn another PH. Then you can IBB Hart, and now you're back to LHP vs Plush- so once again you either have the favorable match-up or force RR to burn another PH. Just waiting for RR to have that "gut feeling" to start McGehee any day now...hopefully he sticks to his head not his gut.
  6. This "rule" has been enforced off and on for many, many years. Even goes back to the County Stadium days. On any given night, they may put more emphasis on it than others. For that matter, I'm sure each individual employee takes it more seriously than others. If this ruined your day in even the slightest of ways, I'm not sure what to tell you. If I was lucky enough to be there, they could have escorted me to my car immediately after the game and turned the key and I would still be basking in the glory of the greatest sports weekend in WI history.
  7. Also hoping there's a clause in the new TV deal that reads something like this: XVI © 3: Jerry Augustine and Davey Nelson shall not be seen or heard during the broadcast of any televised game. Said ban shall include any pre-game or post-game coverage.
  8. I agree with all that. In fact, I even support his decision to go with Greinke. His issues were not related to pitching on 3 days rest, his problems were caused by too many fastballs down the middle. And he's done that plenty all year. The difference is, you can get away with that vs teams like the Astros and Pirates. Upton? Not so much. Gibson seems to be managing like this is an April series. Giving pitchers a chance to "pich out of trouble," pitching to Fielder with a base open. Not being real careful pitching to Braun, etc. RR, to his credit, is treating every game like the last game of the year0 which is the way to approach post-season. In a 9-4 game he had KRod up in the 7th when Hawkins was struggling. That was great to see, along with finally realizing he needs to sit McGehee. I'm sure that wasn't easy for him, but again, it tells me he's throwing everything out the window and trying his best to win the game that day and worry about tomorrow...tomorrow.
  9. Not sure anything needs to be said usually. It's a matter of pausing the game and letting the pitcher regroup. He really didn't need to say anything to Saito, just point at the scoreboard. Speaking of Saito, I did notice Lucroy used a different routine behind the plate when Saito was pitching, Some signs I haven't seen before, and real exagerated motions. Not sure what that was all about, but as lonf as Saito did that's all that matters.
  10. Before the Brewers eventually lose their first playoff game, and we see 1,000 posts blaming RR, Yuni, McGehee, etc. I figured we have a couple days to remind ourselves how special this year has been. Feel free to add to the list. - Franchise record 96 wins. - Over 3,000,000 attendance. - NL Leading 185 HRs. 2nd in OPS. - Axford. NL leader in saves despite blowing 2 at the start of the year. Looking back, what an incredible season he had! - Braun and Fielder. 'Nuf said. - RR. Yes, I have criticized him. We'll never know what Macha or a different manager would have done with this line-up, but you can't take away the 96 wins from RR, faults and all. -Melvin. Similar story. He didn't do everything right, but Greinke and Marcum worked out according to plan. Morgan/Plush added right before the season. KRod and JHJ great late season adds. -Despite all the fear of choking down the stretch, they did not really ever come close to that. - Just the general sense of calm no matter who the starting pitcher was on any given night. -Front row Amy.
  11. MVP means whatever each voter thinks it means. Some see it as the best player, because that would also make him the most valuable. Others see it as described by most here, valuable i terms of helping a winning team. In my own opinion, I don't think it should matter what team a guy plays for. If Kemp DID win the triple crown, he's MVP in my book. It's not his fault the Dodgers didn't have enough talent around him to win the division. I don't see how that makes him any lee "valuable." So his stats should put him firmly in the mix. Braun will also be affected by feileder, because I've heard pundits (some of whom are also voters) say that Fielder is big reason why Braun has the numbers he does. (Although they always seem to ignore Braun is a big reason why Fielder has so many RBI.) So I think it will be very close, hopefully Braun gets the nod playing for a playoff team.
  12. So, if Braun goes 3 for 4 he'll be at .33748. What is Reyes at?
  13. Great, Gomez and Hart cost one more AB for Braun/Fielder
  14. I'm 100% discouraged that this debate has become centered around Christian Laetner.
  15. Of course the position weighting is subjective. Why else would each position by exactly .5 different? What a coincidence that each postion would be exactly .5 more/less valuable. UZR may not be accurate but that has no bearing on subjectivity? Ok, let's call it a guess then. The replacement part is arbitrary as well. But that's the problem. Each step of the process could be a little off, and by the time you get done some players could be quite a bit off in total. It's how you end up with lunacy like Ellsbury having a much higher WAR than Fielder acouple years back. I don't deny WAR is a good ATTEMPT at conclusive evidence of a player's value. But that's all it is, an attempt.
  16. What is subjective about WAR? Read through this and show me where any subjectivity comes in:http://www.insidethebook....le/how_to_calculate_war/ What is NOT subjective about it? Arbitrary "value" given to different positions, Uzr is part of the formula, estimated factors for games played, etc. But the biggest problem is the junk science that is the leap between above/below avg performance and win shares. It is impossible to conclude player x is worth 2.7 wins a year. There's just now way to prove it.
  17. Back to the article itself, whether you're heavily into stats or not I do dismiss the premise of the entire article. If someone else spends 20 hours a day crunching numbers, and that's how THEY get pleasure out of the game, what affect does that have on YOU? My wife loves the Brewers. Many here would call her a "casual fan" because she doesn't fully understand strategy, stats, etc. But her passion for the Brewers is not casual. She knows who the best players are, and who sucks. Her in-game straetgy is limited to "this pitcher sucks, get him out of there." Now I used to think of her as somehow less of a fan because of this. Sure, she knows .300 BA is good. But that's an advances stat for her. My point is, she thoroughly enjoys watching just about every inning of Brewer games, and frankly has never even heard of OPS, much less any of the more advanced stats. And I know she reflects thousands of passionate Brewer fans. So how exactly are stats ruining the game?
  18. That's not realistic. Pujols is far too classy to accept that award again.
  19. Hustle is worth 1.6378889% of WAR
  20. Kemp doesn't have to WIN the Triple Crown, he just has to stay in contention for it. As long as he stays as close as he is, this will be the big story every day. The Matt Kemp watch. And all that attention will give him the MVP.
  21. Hate to say it, but Kemp is starting to turn this into a lock. Braun or Fielder would need a monster homestand to close the gap.
  22. Logan, it's why I singled out certain stats like Uzr and WAR. Doesn't mean ALL advanced stats have no merit. In fact, at this point, I'm not sure I would even call OBP and OPS advanced. But now that they're brought up, I'm glad you mentioned it. Because fairly often OPS is used as basically an "end of discussion" around here. Now, I agree it is THE most important stat for any hitter. However, I do think it discounts OBP. I'll also add this, related to pitching advanced stats. I think there's a difference between using these stats to evaluate minor league players vs MLB players. For example, you can have a guy who is a solid MLB pitcher, even though his WHIP, K/BB, BAPIP, etc. would suggest otherwise. Why? Some pitchers can simply get out of jams, have the ability to induce DPs, pitch around guys and focus on hitters they know they can out, and simply aren't SO pitchers. On the other hand, if a minor league pitcher is having success in this manner, it often doesn't translate to MLB success.
