  1. I'd think this would have to be Rangers-Celtic, which is probably the biggest rivalry in all of sports. It is, but I picked the other three because the "event" is much bigger.
  2. I'm not a soccer "fan" as such, but the big matches aren't even a game, it is an event. Manchester United vs Liverpool, Barcelona vs Real Madrid, or the biggest/best in my opinion is A.C. Milan vs Inter Milan.
  3. Funny, I asked a doctor friend about that today! He said that would be relatively easy to do. Now, whther it would still WORK or not, I have no idea.
  4. Sixto Lezcano
  5. Could be he's just learning how to command his fastball. Maybe he's learned he gets better cut throwing it at 86-87 rather than 88-89?
  6. "The Clappers" They can turn on or off instantly
  7. She also killed the private investigator, and seveal CTI security guys when she escaped CTU. So yea, I have no problem with Jack taking her out. Plus, given the situation, he didn't have the option of bringing her in. (Not to mention the fact that the Dana character annoyed me all season!)
  8. Sabathia, Lincecum...guys like that are worth $25MM as well. You're telling me Sabathia/Gallardo/Wolf wouldn't instantly give the Brewers the look and feel of a contender? Not an ideal #3 there, but at least you're in the fight.
  9. Wow, finally something that suprised me! Jack took out Dana, I couldn't believe it! Way to go out on top Bauer!
  10. Melvin's biggest failure by far is not drafting and/or devloping top quality MLB pitchers- period. We can debate about the trades. He won some and lost some like every GM. But he has failed miserable in either identifying and drafting pitchers, or having people capable of developing that tlant in the minors. Maybe both, I don't know.
  11. Hate to sound cliche, but they're in a posiiton to draft the best player available. Ridnour is a FA, so he may be gone. So this team could need a backup PG, a SG (especially if Salmons isn't back), a SF (since they don't really have one other than DelFino), and then the athletic big guy everyone covets. I don't see how they go wrong as long as it's a guy who can play. Still puzzled why they gave up on Meeks. I think they're stuck with Redd for sure, but the Gadz contract may be able to get moved to a team looking for an expiring contract.
  12. I think the analogy is valid, even though it's a different sport. The Bucks were given a perfect excuse to to just walk to the finish line. Bogut is down, no reason anypne would expect the team to compete in the playoffs. But they are mentally tough. Skiles has instilled that in them. He has taken a bunch of guys who played marginal or bad defense, and has made them a very good defensive team. He made it clear from day one if you don't play D, you won't be on the floor. He proved that by sitting Bogut, Jennings, Delfino...anyone who wsn't giving the effort. That sounds easy, but it's not- and very few NBA coached would be willing to pull out their stars to make a point. Compare that to "by the book" Macha. Let's not talk much to players, let alone inspire or challenge them.
  13. I agree, I still watch every episode, but don't look forward to it with great anticpation anymore. By the way, last tnight's episode had a really strange flow to it, almost like their was a different director or something. Sure, some good laughs as usual. How predictable was it that the woman was interested in Michael after the whole show was spent with poeple telling him the opposite?
  14. I think Salmons has a players option for next year doesn't he? Therefore, he's basically a free agent. Ridnour is also a FA, so there's a decision to be made there. Finally, that $25MM for Redd/Gadz won't be available next year, it will be available the following year. Both are under contract for the 2010/2011 season.
  15. I get what you're saying Monty, but I don't think Macha would take much heat for removing Hoffman from the closer role for a while. It's not like he's blown 2 or 3 saves over a 2 month period. Plus, it hasn't been a case of one or two seeing -eye singles. He has been absolutely rocked. Hoffman, being the pro's pro that he is, I'm sure would have Macha's back. Nobody is bigger than the game.
  16. Does anyone know of a website that lists the Bucks players, along with their salaries and when their contracts expire?
  17. Joe Johnson is a very unselfish player. He'll go long stretches without even taking a shot. He's the type of guy that would be a perfect fit for this Bucks team.
  18. I don't even agree with the concept of a closer, it's an invention of modern baseball. If a reliever just pitched a great 8th inning, and obviously has his "stuff" working, why not pitch him in the 9th? Or I could see going situational in the 9th. A rightie up? Let Coffey pitch to him. Then two lefties? Put Stetter in. Nobody seems to like "closing by committee." Maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle. i jsut think it's lazy managing to say EVERY save siutaion we MUST put in our closer for the entire 9th inning.
  19. I still think this team needs a #1 starter to be legit. Gallardo is young, and could devleop into that role but he's not there yet, let's face it. Until the Brewers have a top shelf 1-3 rotation, they will need everything to fall exactly right with a ton of luck to make the post-season. They are rapidly wasting the window we were talking about years ago, and will need to do it with mostly the next crop of players. While that can be done with Braun, Weeks, Escobar, Lucroy, etc. they will be nothing more than a fun team to watch without that rock solid 1-3 at the top of the rotation. Ideally, you hope and pray Gallardo can evolve into the #1, making it a lot easier to get the other 2. Hopefully one comes from a Fielder trade, and the other can come up through the system. Mark A. and Melvin jsut need to stop fooling themselves into believing guys like Suppan and Davis can be top of the rotation starters. I know it's not easy, that's what has to happen.
  20. Salmons will be tough, but I'm trying not to think about next year. If someone offers an ungodly contract, no way the Bucks should match it. But if it's reasonable, the Bucks could be creative in keeping it lower next year, then higher after they dump the Redd/Gaz contracts. (Although I don't know how flexible you can be with the NBA cap.) But as you said, I have confidence in Hammond /Skiles to either sign Salmons or replace him with a similar player for less $. Great thing is, they can honestly go for "best player available" in the draft. A shooter of the bench, backup for Bogut, even another PG for Ridnour insurance.
  21. Demoralized? Yes. For the past several seasons, I entered each year with at lest some level of optimism that the Brewers could be playing in the post-season. This year is no different, and maybe I had unrealistic hope. While it's too early to say that's impossible, I simply "feel" there's no way the Brewers can top the Cards with their Carpenter/Wainright/Penny rotation. Nor can they compete with a WC coming out of the West. The only way I see the Brewers making the post-eason is banking on the Cards having a rash of injuries, and even at that they have to beat the Cubs. Way too early to say the season is done, I just don't see a reason to be optimistic.
  22. The Bucks are the anti-Brewers. Mentally tough, play as a team, someone always comes through when it counts. Skiles is coach of the year, and Jennings is rookie of the year. I'm the type of Bucks/NBA fan that can never watch an entire game, but I have fallen in love with this team. I have not missed a minute of the playoff games, and last night was amazing. While the future is encouraging, they need to take full advantage of this moment in time while they're really clicking. I'm sure Skiles won't let it happen, but I do fear that the deer will relax a bit coming back home. Bring it hard, and the Hawks will fold.
  23. Brewer fans are starting to resemble Cubs fans lately and it's embarrassing to see. I think Hoffman deserves one more shot and if he struggles again, give the closing duties to Hawkins for a while. Hoffman's been around long enough to be able to right the ship on his own. No, he doesn't have that right. The only goal is to win games, and Hoffman has been horrific in the closing role. A good manager would have sat him a while and/or used him for a couple months in middle relief until he gets his mojo back. To keep throwing him out there to close games is counter-productive. I don't agree with the booing, but I would guess most of those boos are directed at Macha, not Hoffman. At least I hope so. I've never booed anyone other than Sheffield and Vina (after they left) but if I took off work to spend my whole day at Miller Park only to see the same crap happen again, I would be tempted to boo.
  24. Doesn't Braun qualify as a superstar? He even used the song for his walk-up im the past.
