  1. I don't think the check card is our friend at all. In fact, the check (debit) card and it's sister, the credit card, play a huge role in what happened to our economy. They have made people feel comfortable spending without the immediate consequences. Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone who uses a card. Whteher subconscious or not, it's a lot easier to scan a card than to shell out actual currency or enter an amount in a checkbook and see your balance change. A bit OT I know, but my point is that if 100% of the population used a check card 100% of the time, it wouldn't be all good.
  2. Yea, I try to look past most of this stuff and just enjoy the show. But I was really confused by the FBI's approach to this threat. Seems to me you woul either use overwhelming force or something very stealth. They did neither by flying 3 helicopters directly next to the building, but then acting like they were making a surprise invasion. Real world, just carpet bomb the complex. The intense heat and fire would burn up the nerve agent don't you think?
  3. It would be pretty easy for him to start his own paper company. Remember, Dunder Mifflin doesn't actually manufacture the paper, they just sell it. Theoretically, Michael (being a very good salesperson) could get the business moving. Also, we can make the assumption he has contacts at some of the paper mills, etc. to negotiate price. Also, he could get in touch with old man Prince and buy his customer list. Now making a profit, that would take awhile. But spite is a powerful motivator.
  4. Ridiculous that Marquette didn't cruise to a 17 point win.
  5. Always remember, it isn't WHAT you know it's WHO you know. As time moves on, the economy will always have ups and downs. Nobody currently unemployed wants to hear this (can't blame you) but it was much worse in the 70s. But regardless of how the overall economy/job market is doing, you could still lose your job on any given day. Maybe the economy turns around, but your industry, company, or skill set is in a"recession." That's why it's absolutely critical to do what you can to network with people within your industry, local business groups, etc. I think most of us realize there's a large percentage of jobs that are never advertised. The goal should be to meet as many people as you can, so when you need to apply you have someone who at least knows you and can help you- rather than being one more resume out of 1,000. It's easier said than done, and hardly fool-proof. But the more you netowrk, the better your odds at landing something.
  6. With TWC, you get FSN in HD with the basic digital pkg and basic HD pkg. I'm not sure what ATT's lowest tier is that includes FSN HD. If I remember right, you had to get a sports package, or a higher tier for FSN HD to be included, but I could be wrong.
  7. Yes, I would take the 5% cut to save my job. No, I wouldn't take a pay cut to save soemone else's job- even a friend. That's just being honest. I work to support my wife and children, not my friends and/or co-workers.
  8. It really depends what channels you NEED to have and WANT to have. Both companies have various tiers, of course, but include different channels in those tiers. If HD is important to you, ATT definitely has more, but Time Warner finally woke up and is rapidly adding channels. Also depends how many TVs you have, how many boxes you want/need, etc. Many things to consider. I am constantly tempted to change, but don't want to change my email address, fool around with an all day installation, etc. Plus, when I compare the price based on the packages, services I want the price is within a few bucks a month.
  9. That has actually become annoying. The whole "everyone is out to get Jack" theme has been overplayed. You can only "go rogue" so many times before it gets predictable and unbelievable. But I understand it has evolved over the years into being part of the 24 formula.
  10. Sessions is the priority in my opinion. CV is the definition of "contract year performance." We see how others can step in and fill the scoring void. Defense isn't exactly CV's strenght. So what what be missing? Rebounds maybe, but I really think the two rooks can step up next year and give you as much, if not more, than what CV is putting up now.
  11. I can't believe nobody in Brewerfan.net nation knows this guy!?!?
  12. hi is very talented, but let's not forget AI is a popularity contest, by definition. The best singer doesn't necessarily win. And I seem to be dead wrong most of the time identifying contestants I think people will vote for.
  13. If there is a 2nd mole, how about the blondie that Sean is having an affair with? Seems like a logical choice.
  14. Wow, went from the best episode of the year (last week) to the worst this week. This will be the first episode in a long time that I don't watch over again. The birthday stuff was amusing and Pam trying to give a Michael-like presentation was sorta funny, but I never really laughed very much.
  15. From what I've heard, the Al Roker issue of TV Guide is highly sought-after by some people...
  16. I agree with most of the reasons already given. Potentially seven games instead of one, etc. I think the other major reason is that most people don't care about MLB teams other than their own. Let's face it, baseball attendance is driven as much by the atmosphere of going to a game moreso than the game itself in most cities- Milwaukee is case in point. With the NFL, people love the game itself. (At the risk of being called sexist...even women.) Casual baseball fans love the expereince of going to the ballpark, and may even love watching their team play. They don't, however, have much interest in watching two teams they don't care about in the WS.
  17. This was one of my favorite episodes of all time. Michael was in rare form, and Dwight was back to his "old character." Sprinkle in "Nard Dawg" and Creed...just awesome. Most episodes I laugh a few times, this one I never stopped laughing. Creed mistaking Jim for Andy was classic as well....reminded me of my favorite Creed moment ever when he referred to Jim as "the tall guy."
  18. I won't speak for other posters, but I think I understand what he means. The most succinct way I can put it is Dark Knight seemed more like non-fiction than fiction. It was produced in a way that led us to believe the story line.
  19. I've used Taxcut from H&R Block the past 3 years. Used Turbotax before that. Honestly, I walk through Best Buy and grab one or the other. Taxcut has been $5-$7 or so cheaper so that's what I got. really don't notice much difference between the two. This Taxact mentioned earlier has my attention though, I think I'll check it out next year.
  20. Interesting, because I think McNeal = Charlie Bell as far as what type of NBA player he will be. Probably a bit "better" since he's more athletic overall. A tweener, sure, but the guy can defend, shoot, get in the paint, and handle the rock good enough to play PG in spurts. His ideal team would be someone with a big PG (like the Heat used to do with Wade.) Because then McNeal could play the 2 on offense but defend the opposing team's PG on defense. I think the hidden gem on Marquette is Hayward. He translates very well o an NBA small forward- especially a run-and-gun type team. Won't surprise me if he comes out this year. Matthews can play in the NBA, but I don't think he does any one thing very well- except shoot free throws that is. He would have to be striclty a 2, no way he can run the point.
  21. For the most part, I still think The Office is comedy gold. One thing that has bothered me though is the character development of Dwight. They have actually done a great job of this with Michael, in my opinion. It started to become unbelievable that such a bafoon would be the "boss" for so long. But they have developed his character into someone who CAN sell, and make good management decisions in his own way. Dwight on the other hand has taken a turn for the worse. The CPR scene was a good example of "over the top" and not realistic- even for Dwight. I also don't like the way he challenges Michael quite often this season. He is much better off being a "suck up" and concentrating on his strange personality.
  22. According to my son, "Ethan"" (Chief of Staff?) was talking on the phone to the Jon Voight character in Redemption. I vaguely recall that as well, but not 100% sure. So if that's the case he's definitely one of the "bad guys." But it wouldn't be 24 without someone else being involved we don't suspect. I really think the President would be a huge reach. More likely is the main FBI guy or agent Walker. I'm also trying to think of a character from previous seasons that could enter the scene. Any way you slice it, this whole CIP device plot line is reaching it's natural conclusion and a new twist needs to come soon. BTW, my whole family loves Chloe and the taser scene was one of the best ever.
  23. Same place as Kevin. Actually, that's what makes Creed and Kevin funny, they're used sparingly. This ws the worst of the year IMHO. Buttlicker was comedy gold, but nothing else was very funny for the rest of the episdoe- other than a well-placed "that's what she said" by Pam.
  24. I think Ned was behind it. Gadzuric is such a scrappy player.
  25. It's funny, but every new Head Coach comes in preaching defense. But defensive players are never added. You have Redd, Charlie V, and Ridnour who either have zero interest or zero ability in playing defense. Bogut isn't much better. RJ is the only starter that is even an average defensive player. Then you add Alexander off the bench with no defense... I just don't understand what they're trying to build here. I loved the RJ trade, but I don't understand anything else they've done this off-season.
