  1. So far, Trevor Hoffman has the best chance to make it followed by Braun, Fielder, and Gallardo in that order. Still a month to go, so it's still wide open. For example, if Fielder is leading the NL in RBI and top 3 in HR it will be real hard to keep him out. Braun I think has a better shot because he may very well get voted in as a starter. Gallardo is in the mix, he just needs 4 or 5 wins before the break. Maybe Cameron makes it in on "final fan pick."
  2. I think a full ride scholarship is plenty of compensation for the athlete. Do you realize how much a full ride at Duke is worth? Plus, it's not just the schoolarship. These kids get the opportunity to play the best competition out there and do it very publicly. Sure, the top athletes in any sport will be discovered no matter where they play. But what about an Defensive Tackle at Boise St. or a shooting guard from Tulsa? Guys like that get a chance to prove themselves and show up on the radar of pro scouts. Not to mention, for those who wish to take advantage of the opportunity, they can receive a degree that can be useful after (or in place of) a pro career.
  3. I would not pay for internet access on my smartphone, I use it for work so company pays. Amazing how quickly this technology changes, I have a Motorola Q and it seems like I may as well have an old bag phone compared to what's out today, and coming soon.
  4. http://wdwinfo.com/ Excellent source of information. Be sure to check out the forums as well. There are boards devoted to "budget (deals)" "lodging" etc. If there's a deal, suggestion, tip, etc. it's in this site somewhere. Good luck! http://www.mousesavers.com/ You'll find this link throughout wdwinfo, but I'll save you the step and take you directly to this site. I have been to the Orlando area at least 15 times, would be happy to help. Sort of a hobby of mine to help people plan a trip to central FL. My email is jake7987@gmail.com
  5. Zambrano: "After this contract, I'm done" Favre: "Me too"
  6. Well, another little problem is would Glavine even want to play in Milwaukee?
  7. I think it's ridiculous to project a 16 yr old will be a stud in MLB. Forget off-speed pitches from a lefty, how many 96MPH fastballs with movement has he seen? Not to mention flithy sliders, curves and change-ups. Great talent, interesting story, but let's not dust off a shelf in the HOF for the kid just yet.
  8. Oh, and we need a bat. Maybe Jose Canseco or Michael Jordan would want to give it another shot?
  9. Biggest problem is pitching from the stretch. When there's nobody on base (which isn't very often) he has command over all his pitches- at lest early on in games. But when he has to pitch from the stretch he can't control his off-speed stuff. Then he starts getting hammered, and he mentally strats falling apart. That's my theory. And it's why a trip to Nashville would be perfet. Have him pitch out of the stretch to every batter and work on his mechanics. Frnakly, he's always had bad "body language" that doesn't exactly ooze confidence. I do wonder if he will ever turn his "stuff" into being a consistent and reliable SP.
  10. As with every team, every year, that final bullpen spot will be a revolving door all year. Burns, Smith, Dillard, (the lefty whose name a I forget, and a cast of thousands. Hopefully one of them can stick- would be nice if it was a lefty though.
  11. Yes, biggest problem will be my daughter will be away at college, and I'll have no way to support her if she has any questions about the mac. (I've become very good at tech support for PC/Windows over the phone ; ) Anyhow, update on the wifi. I tried several different channels (good idea) but to no avail. I can't be dealing with this indefinitely, so I went out and got a new D Link n router...problem solved. I downloaded Open Office last night, and it looks very similar to MS Office, although I haven't had time to "play" with it yet. Maybe I'm too old to learn new tricks, but like DHonks said, I won't be getting macs for myself in the future.
  12. Thanks Nate, Casey. I have an older router (Wireless b) that only allows WEP. Not 100% certain, but I'm thinking that's whee the problem lies. Leopard may not support this type of "older" wirelss security. I've been looking for a reason to upgrade my router to wireless n anyhow, so I think that's my next step.
  13. Buckhead is a cool area to spend some time. Even if you don't stay at a hotel there, take MARTA up there for a night. Underground Atlanta is real close to Turner Field, that's worth a visit. If it's your cup of tea, Gold Club and Cheetah 3 are quite outstanding...just ask any pro athlete.
  14. I am a PC guy lost in the Mac world. I purchased a Macbook for my daughter, and find myself somewhat lost. I kept hering about the "ease of use" and haven't found that to be the case. First problem, I am not able to get a connection to my wireless network. I have 2 PCs an Xbox, and yes even an Iphone that connected immediately and have no problems. However, no matter what Itry with the Macbook, I get an error message saying "invalid password." (Yes, I have triple checked to make sure I'm using the proper network password.) Any ideas? My second problem is with the productivity suite. I have a student edition of MS Office, and should have known that won't work on a Mac. So now I need to either buy MS Office for Mac, Iwork, or Open Office (for free.) Open Office seems to be worth a try, given the price, but I'm not sure how compatible it will be with Office. Can any users of Open Office give me any tips? Can you easily read MS Word and PowerPoint docs? In reverse, if you create documents in Open Office and send them to MS Office users can they eaily read those docs? Next, is it fairly easy to install RAM yourself? I got it with the stanard 2GB installed, but realize I may need to add another GB or two. Finally, the whole OS, file structure, etc. is so different from what I'm used to. Is their a good source (other than Mac for Dummies which I'm embarrassed to say I will buy) that walks through how to navigate within Mac, get the most out of it, etc? Bottom line, until I get this all figured out, it just seems like a "cooler looking" laptop that seems more complicated than a PC.
  15. I'm fine with having Kendall in the line-up every day when the rest of the bats are on fire. That's obviously not the case now. We don't know how Rivera would do playing every day, but I agree he shoud be starting at least 1/3 of the games now that Weeks is out, Hart and Hall are struggling, etc. I've always thought the whole "handling of the pitching staff" is overrated. Major League pitchers prepare for a game and know how they want to pitch guys. And I don't see any fall-off when Rivera is "handlling" Bush or the relievers.
  16. This whole argument about Hall's hustle or lack thereof is quite OT, and quite ridiculous. Go back and read the entire page and I'm sure you'll even agree.
  17. I think Gamel needs to play almost every day at 3B. Now is the best time for him to gain experience vs LHP. You don't want to find out in September. Then you platoon Cunsel and McGehee at 2B. That leaves Hall as the odd man out, and I'm not sure what you do about that. With his contract, a trade doesn't seem likely.
  18. I know it's a cop-out, but it all depends on injuries (or lack thereof.) If they don't sustain any more significant injuries they will compete for the division, and I think win it. The bullpen is the biggest reason why. This stat will come as a surprise to you, but most games are close. Brewer hitters feast on bullpens, while their own bullpen is lights out. And looking at how Macha is using the bullpen, I don't expect that to change much all year. They have a good recipe for success. Starting pitchers that keep you in the game, a bullpen that is the best (if not one of the best) in baseball, and a line-up that will score enough rund to win most nights. Plus they have at lest two guys who can carry the team for a 2-3 week stretch. The Reds concern me more than anyone else, but I see the Brewers playing in October again.
  19. I get the feeling Macha is looking at a full platoon at 2B and 3B. Counsel and Gamel vs righties and Hurricane/Casey and Hall vs lefties. Is it just me, or does the line-up seem a lot less terrifying without Weeks at the top? It hasn;t helped that Cam and Hart have cooled off at the same tiem, but it just seems like there's not a good answer for the #1 and #5 spots right now.
  20. Jack isn't going to die, unless the actor that plays gets in enough trouble to be able to film.
  21. What do you really think the plan is? When Hardy, Fielder, Weeks, and Braun were brought up they started immediately. (Other than September call-ups.) Seems to be the Brewers M.O. with top position player prospects. If that's true, you would think Gamel would be in a strict platoon at 3rd, and Hall would be back to his role of 3B/super utility. Would they really bring Gamel to PH and DH in inter-league games?
  22. I'm not sure how you can pull this off without the Stafford loan. The math seems to say without it you'll be well short of the $20,000. A nd that's including the $2,500 you hope to get in scholarships. If you haven't received any scholarships yet, curious as to why you're counting on it. More importantly, I'm not sure how you expect to pay $100,000 over 5 years to earn your Bachelors at UW? Stafford loans and part time jobs get you half way there AT BEST. I suggest you do the math very carefully, and sit down with your parents to talk about it. Maybe they can loan you some money? As someone said, (and I'm trying not to preach) you should have done this a while ago. Very simply, your parents will probably need to help you out, or you may want to look at other UW schools. Madison is a great school, but there are other very fine state schools.
  23. Apples and oranges. Hardy is a full time player, and there will be slumps. It is a pinch hitter's job to actually HIT once in a while. It may not be fair, but there's no sense using a PH who is 0-19. I'm not saying dump him. In fact, I think he needs to start a couple more games for more ABs to get his confidence back, get comfortable, etc. In the meantime, what you need to find is a couple players who are comfortable getting that one AB a night, or every other night. The problem isn't Nelson, it's that Counsell is the only bench player who can be trusted right now to PH.
