  1. I don't care what anyone says, that's pure pseudo-journalism gold.
  2. Ok 7th in NL in runs scored but it's been worse than that down the stretch. THAT is the reason we're in danger- simply being able to score enough runs to win 3 games. Our best chance to win is 2 lights out performances by CC (and I mean 1 run or less) and a win at home somehow. It's no secret the Phillies will pitch around Braun and Fielder- moreso than usual. Sure, Hardy will concern them a little but then there is no fear at all 6-9. Especially late in games, I can see them putting Braun and Fielder on base and taking their chances.
  3. Yea, I saw Toby at the end but still don't know if he'll actually be back for the season? Now that you say it, I do remember Jan's artificial insemination. But who knows, maybe she just told Michael that...and it's really Creed...or Andy...who knows?? That's a very fertile area for some good comedy if they went that route...
  4. I can't agree with that more. When I was much younger I was fortunate enough to have a boss that hit me over the head with that every day until I did it. Tax free is king, plus it goes right into your account and it's forgotten. After a few months you will learn to live without it. I have socked away the max allowed by law every year, and it's the best financial move I ever made.
  5. Maybe I missed it, but we don't know the father of Jan's baby right? That could be very interesting. Who knows, could end up being Kevin...Ryan...a warehouse guy....who knows. Toby would make it a perfect story, being Michael's arch rival. Not sure if he's back this season though.
  6. It's in the best interest of the financial services community to talk about dollar cost averaging, and stick with ir for the long haul, etc. They want you to aprk your money in stocks and mutual funds and leave it there indefinitely. Makes perfect sense these "experts" would want us to do that. It is possible to time the market to some degree. I don't mean we can get in and out at EXACTLY the right time, but we can miniize losses and maximize gains. For example, I reduced my positions in the market at the beginning of the year. I bailed out big time after the Lehman/AIG news. Glad I did. This morning I bought into the market again, but I'm still not invested to the defgrre I was a year ago at this time. Now, I could miss out on a huge market surge if I wait too long. But I will still come out ahead by avoiding the big dips so far this year. By the way, not to hijack the thread but the best possible way to kickstart the economy, markets, and financial institutions would be a significant cut i nthe cap gains rate.
  7. Not if he expects to sleep here or have a meal here every again. Hey...college savings problems would be WHOAA SOLVVD!!!
  8. His OPS was .831 in the first half, I wouldn't call that "not good." But yes, like many guys in this line-up more walks would do wonders for his production.
  9. Was most of 2008 an abberation too? He's no different than Hardy, it's just that Hardy looked this lost at the plate at the beginning of the year instead of the end. Fielder and Braun had stretches like this, just didn't last as long. I think this entire line-up is infatuated with the low breaking ball of the outsie corner. They love it. Can't live without it. When they stay off that pitch, it's amazing how much of a better hitter they are.
  10. No, that won't cut it. Unfortunately, no team is going to trade a #2 type starter unless it's a trade deadline deal. Developing your own pitchers is ideal, but there is not a SP on the horizon- let alone a #1 or #2 type. 2009 is out, and 2010 doesn't even look real promising at this point for someone from the system to step in. My 10 year old has the best idea. "We should trade Hall, Gagne, and Suppan for a really good pitcher"
  11. But less than gold, oil, corn, and lots of other investment vehicles. Heck, even an annuity would be a better option.
  12. I agree. I know a guy who is doing this in Waukesha County. Slight difference, he handles all home technology- PC, home network, A/V, etc. He basically comes in and interviews the home owner, then systematically puts together a list of the equipment they should have. PC, laptops, TVs, cables, home theatre system...whatever they're looking for. Then he installs it and sets up a routine training and maintenance schedule. A little slow at first, but now he does over 80% of his work by referral. He said he started doing mostly PC troubleshooting and setting up wireless netwroks, etc. But he noticed a need out there. People are buying all this electronic equipment. Often times they're buying things that don't fit what they want, and most people don't know how to get the most out of what they have. Otherwise, you could do consulting/ IT work for churches, day care centers, private schools, etc. The type of entities that can't afford internal IT people or afford to pay a lot for outside work. You can come in and charge less, now you have references to use....plus these people can refer you to other businesses. Take this as an opportunity. I don't know what your specialty is (IT is pretty broad) but think of a way you can be your own boss.
  13. I don't think this show works best when it's an hour-long edpisode. Too much filler time. I agree, I don't like the direction they're going with Dwight. I guess I just don't think it was very funny. I lauged out loud a few times, but there seemed to be a lot of moments that were really forced. Although this is money... "I swallowed a tape worm, I got it from Creed...it's from Mexico" Creed: "That's not a tape worm"
  14. Why would anyone have $300,000 in cash in a bank anyhow? For a toaster and 3% return on a CD?
  15. It's been stated as fact the Brewers can't sign CC and/or Sheets. They can't have a $200MM payroll, or even $150MM. Heck, I've said it myself. But I've been re-thinking that notion. Why couldn't Mark A. juice up the salary structure for a couple years? Given the current economic situation, who knows how hard Mark A. is being hit, but assuming he still has a ton of cash, he can afford to have a huge salary structure for a couple years. Before I get a head of myself, I'm not sure it's wise to throw big money at Ben Sheets. But why not CC? You could front load the contract to really entice him to stay. Over the next two years, you get rid of the contracts for Sheets, Gagne, Turnbow, Suppan, Hall, etc. So you re-sign Sabathia and lock in Hardy and possibly Hart. Yes, you would have a net gain in overall salary, but manageable for a couple years. And they should still be able to attract 3MM fans or so to help pay for all that jack. The window is here, and you have to go for it. Mark A has proven he will do absolutely anything to win, if it makes sense of course. Only a couple more years to have Braun,Fielder,Hardy,Hart,Gamel,Weeks together so why not take that leap of faith and get CC signed and make a run?
  16. That's about 500 tickets for each game he blew...not bad.
  17. I'm sure Suppan is on a real short leash, and McClung has been told to prepare as if he's starting. Then Saturday, same situation with Sheets/Bush. Tonight is huge, of course. Suppan vs Dempster is scary as it gets. With Santana and Sabathia going Sunday, this is practically a 2 game race.
  18. Seeing as how Simmons has been reassigned, I would be shocked.
  19. I guess I'm in the minority, because I don't see attendance suffering that much if they collapse this year. The excitement from this year will caryy over to next year. Does that mean 3MM attendance again? That depends on how well they're playing. Brewer fans- ardant and casual alike have waited over 25 years for a winner. If they're winning and have a shot at the post season fans will continue to come out in droves all summer. But there is another long term affect that hasn't been discussed. Is Mark A. more likely to go after CC or some other huge money FA to prove to the fans he's serious about winning? I do think he would be more likely to feel "he has to do something" if they collapse this year. I also believe a collapse would force them to make a move with Weeks. If the Brewers make the playoffs, and the further they advance I think it's less likely Mark A would want to take any dramatic steps. But a collapse may call for pretty major changes throughout the dugout.
  20. Not a techie here, but could the speed go down as thousands of people start using it? Just curious. Because I tried it, and it does seem to be faster, and I do like the way Google search is integrated.
  21. Simple fact is that this team tanked the past two years. If they do it again this year, it's a trend. I don't know if it's the make-up of the players, Yost, other factors, or all of the above. I will say it's no secret this team is built around slugging, not OBP. It's also no secret slugging will be more streaky than OBP. You just hope they get hot late September into October. I don't think it's unfair to point out franchise guys like Sheets and Fielder haven't been as productive as you would like down the stretch (so far.) With all that said, it was one series. They were playing very good ball prior to this series, and if they play well the remainder of the HS all will be back on track.
  22. I actually go to El Azteca fairly often, but not by choice. I don't think it's very authentic, just your standard "American Mexican" fare. Also not a big fan of Good Company. A lot of people love that place, but I think their menu is way too large. They make a lot of different types of food, but don't do any of them really well. Also, forgot my vote for worst.... Cracker Barrell Oh, and a controversial paick for Best- Buffalo Wild Wings. I know a lot of people think it's over-rated, but I love wings really well done, and they fry the bleep out of them. Plus I love their choices of sauces. mmmmmm Mango Habenero.
  23. Nothing in Appleton at 8:00 Sat morning : (
  24. Ah yes, I forgot. That's the other problem I had with U Verse. The DVR was horrible.
  25. Since this works so well for lots of people, has anyone ever tried having you or your spouse sleep with someone else in their bed? Maybe that's not quite the same thing....
