  1. True, but that's not my concern. I'm not worried about depth, replacing a starter for a stretch of time, etc. The biggest issue is pinch hitting. There will be many more close games this year, and it sure would be nice to send a PH up to the plate with at least some crumb of hope they can actually get on base once in a while.
  2. I agree, and I don't believe the "small sample' argument is valid. Small sample is the definition of a bench player. You need to produce in the limited opportunities you have, or you're not adding any value. For that matter, I'm getting closer to saying it's time to bite the bullet and bring TGJ up to replace Duffy. At least he has shown it's possible to get a PH once in a while. But I have confidence in Melvin. It's not like he's sitting around oblivious to the problem.
  3. The fact that Prince Fielder will never sign a long term deal here. So it only makes sense to trade him. Depending where the Brewers stand at the end of this season, it could be that soon...or the next off-season. I am convinced if Melvin can get what he wants for him, he will pull the trigger before next April and Gamel will be the starting 1B.
  4. For all injuries or just fake injuries? Actually, that makes this an easy answer. Whatever soccer would do, do the opposite.
  5. You do realize this is all a charade right? Gamel will be starting at 1B, maybe as soon as this August.
  6. The local Bud distributor employees people too. Are there jobs any less valuable than employees who work at the Miller brewery? If my only choice is betwen Bud Light and Miller Lite, I'll take Bud. Just personal preference, I hate Miller Lite and MGD. I will drink what I like, and it's not dependent on who paid for the naming rights for the Brewers stadium.
  7. Increasing it to $1,000,000 is a good idea, although I would bet that's more than an additional $4 a month. Another idea would be to keep your liability limits where they are and purchase a $1,000,000 umbrella. That will give you more auto liability protection, plus cover you for other potential liabilty claims. Especially a good idea if you own o home and/or have children.
  8. Let's remember this doesn't take place in a vacuum. It's not as if the starter wasn't capable of going deeper into games this year, but they were pulled for a PH. That detrmines whther the SP gets an extra inning more than any other factor. If the Brewers were even a little above average in hitting w/RISP they wouldn't need a PH in the 6th inning so often.
  9. Utah Salties Charlotte Racers New Orleans Survivors Problem solved.
  10. Well, they did it with Weeks last year. Remember I said IF. If he he still hitting .150 or so at the end of May? At some point you have to try something. He is the most streaky hitter the Brewers have, so I'm hoping it will work itself out. But if it doesn't after another month what do you do? Keep him with the club but sit him down for awhile?
  11. No, you don't want to get out too LATE. A stock trading in the 20s historically down to 3 cents is not very encouraging. It's up to $3 now, still way off it's norm. And you say there's still rumblings of bankruptcy? I would walk away....no RUN away.
  12. Plus, I would love him to be at .234 right now...and i'm sure he would as well. Another month of this and sending him down to Nashville to work on his swing is a very real possibility.
  13. Media hype and federal government hype. Didn't want this to turn political, but it's just a fact. When President Obama makes a big deal out of it, the media follows. And, as usual, the lemmings follow. Any flu is potentially dangerous for infants, seniors, and people who have certain health issues. Then again, the common cold kills peole every year.
  14. Facing four RHP in this series, I would be fine with a split.
  15. Definitely a love it/hate it snack. I love them, and actually prefer them without salsa. But I like lime flavor. Still put a lime in my Corona or Land Shark too. My cryptonite is the vinegar potato chips.
  16. Miller is a South American beer, plus I never liked Miller Lite anyhow. My stand-bys are Coors Light, Schlitz, or Bud Light. Then to mix it up a bit, sprinkle in Land Shark or Michelob Ultra Cactus Lime when it's hot out.
  17. Exactly. Maximize what IS working, rather than upset the apple cart trying to get one guy out of a funk.
  18. Because you would be removing a guy who is hitting very well and replacing him with a dead bat in front of Braun and Hardy. You don't TRY to solve one problem by creating another. Especially when there's no way to know it will turn him around anyhow. If his back and/or stance is the reason for his struggles, hitting #2 won't solve that. He is increidbly streaky. The best you can do is hide him at #7 until he heats up again. Contrary to popular belief, he is getting plenty of fastballs to hit. In fact, part of his problem is that he almost always takes the 1st pitch- which is often a fastball down the middle.
  19. His back isn't causing him to consistently swing at sliders in the dirt.
  20. Alright.....who photo-shopped by six pack onto that Braun photo?!?!?
  21. MLB pitchers will not throw fastballs in the zone as long as Hardy is swinging at high fastballs and sliders off the outside corner. Moving him to #2 won't change that. In fact, until he starts hitting again, he needs to move down to #7- especially the way Hall is hitting. Hardy has always been incredibly streaky, and when he's in a funk like this you jsut need to hide him in the line-up. It may be overly simple, but true. Don't swing at balls, and you'll see more fastballs in the zone. Until that happens, I see no benefit in taking a productive hitter out and repalcing a dead bat in front of Braun and Fielder.
  22. Chart says it all. There's a difference between whether a player SHOULD or WILL be a GG winner.
  23. We're winning right now? Aren't we 9-10? And I don't think it's possible to say categorically you win or lose a game because of a player. What we CAN say is besides Counsel none of them have helped win any games, and were factors in losing them. Nelson, for example, is 0-9 with runners on base. That certainly doesn't HELP you win games.
  24. I understand the small sample size argument, but that's the definition of a pinch hitter. You have to produce in the limited opportunities you have, or you're not much use as a PH.
  25. What are the options for replacing the current bench players? Pinch hitters haven't exactly delieverd, and Nelson looks more lost at the plate than JJ Hardy. Now, I'm not sure why Nelson is always the first choice with runners on base. Last night was a good example. Bases loaded, less than 2 out. Seems to me that's a spot for a contact hitter. Anyhow, back to the original question. Is it time to bring Gwynn up again? Are there any vets out on the street? All I know is this will cost us some games if it doesn't get fixed.
