  1. So I spent years selling cell phones and telling people to ditch their land lines and now I find myself in the unenviable position of needing a home phone. I have recently moved in to a community that is gated and for my guests to get in they need to punch in my name into the box which then would in theory call my phone. Unfortunately the little box will not dial long distance numbers ( I am in New Mexico and have a Wisconsin number). I don't want to change the number, so I am kicking around getting a local land line. This would be the only thing I would use the land line for though, so I am looking for everyone's suggestions on the most cost-effective way to do this. Are there pay per minute plans out there for land lines like cell phones? Is VOIP a better option? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
  2. I'll reiterate what the other guys have said. Its actually a lot more rugged than one would think. Get one of these things to protect the screen and you should be good to go. http://www.zagg.com/ I never put it in my back pocket. I put it in my front pocket and it works great. I have had mine for 5 months and I would never go back. Then again I am an Apple fan boy so...
  3. You put it in your pants pocket. At least thats what I do with mine. It fits just fine
  4. Can someone who is more familiar with his situation tell me why he only played in 90 games last year? Did the Rays have another young catcher he was splitting time with? I can't seem to find any info that he was hurt or anything.
  5. That just seems wrong that a bar/casino/whatever wouldn't take a valid ID b/c it looks different. I totally agree. I was really surprised to see it. Maybe they have problems here in NM or something. I have seen it so I thought I would just say to check with someone in Nevada. I can't seem to think you'd have an issue but I also never would have thought it would be an issue in NM either.
  6. It depends on the state. I would Google it online or call the Las Vegas PD. There are quite a few bars here in New Mexico that do not take vertical ID's. I'm not sure why they do that but I have seen that posted in lots of bras around here.
  7. I live in Albuquerque, NM and have Direct TV. Its pretty much the only way to get out of market football and baseball, except for MLB.tv for baseball where you can watch out of market games on your computer. I'm not sure but they might consider Chicago to be a local market for MLB.tv. There is a map on the website you can check out. Anyways, I love Direct TV. Their customer service has always been outstanding and I haven't ever had service issues with them in 6+ years. I did have Uverse for a year in Milwaukee before I went back to Direct TV upon moving to Albuquerque. I do have the Sports Package and what trwi said I can confirm. You cannot watch the pro games on the sports channels. You can watch most college games but the pro games are a no go. The way Direct TV has it set up is that based on your geographic area they have certain channels that are considered in your local market. Chicago may or may not be, but you can call the Direct TV people and they will tell you. I did enjoy U-Verse but moving out of state, their is no one that I would rather have for viewing my Packers and Brewers. Uverse just doesn't compare. Even if they did I might choose Direct TV just because of the phenomenal experience I have had with them.
  8. Best off topic thread I have seen in a while
  9. Oh man someone please tell me he untucked his jersey. That would be brilliant!
  10. Dang how did i miss this. I bartend at the Hi Hat and totally would have stopped by. Argh!!
  11. I literally said "game's over" to my gf when Villy was announced as the pitcher.
  12. While the ump may have been horrible. His mustache was quite possibly the best I have seen in quite some time.
  13. Ummm that'll work. 7 runs on 14 hits look a lot better than 3 runs on 13 hits.
  14. Waiting. EDIT: Beat me to it.
  15. This ticks me off if this is the real reason. Was an MRI done initially? I mean its June 26th and that happened June 4th. If they would have caught it right away he would have had just over three weeks of rest up until this point. Instead he was out there pitching with a bum arm stinking up the joint and not getting better at the same time. I don't know something about this just makes me upset.
  16. Thats it. This is the last straw. I am moving out of state and was contemplating buying the iphone. So stoked. I will definitely be doing it now.
  17. ARGH! You beat me to it. A .435 BABIP is completely unsustainable.
  18. You should really do your math before you make these claims. If he had another seven hits his batting average would .255 less than ten points from his career average of .264, although it is almost 30 points lower than his average from last year. If you take into account he had a horrid start to the season he would be very close to his career norms. So as I and other have said his numbers right now can be almost exclusively explained by the fact that he had a bad start to the season (which will even out) and has a very low BABIP, he is unlucky (which will also even out) I am also going to assume that you don't know what BABIP is because you haven't said anything to refute what multiple posters are saying about most of his numbers being due to luck. Here is a great article on it http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/batters-and-babip/
  19. Ok I know i just commented but I needed to ask about this. How is Weeks on that list? I love the guy and think he has the tools, but he has been hurt quite a bit and really hasn't put anything together consistently except for the first two months of this season.
  20. Sometimes I wonder why people refuse to look beyond the surface stats. Its like someone saying a pitcher isn't effective because his W-L total isn't good. There is more to baseball than just the surface stats that pop up on the TV screen when a player steps into the batter's box. It is not simply about production and it is not simply about people liking him. JJ has been extremely unlucky this season as evidenced by his BABIP. If you don't want to factor that into your analysis of whether or not to give him a "free pass" or not then that is your decision but I think it should be considered. If you couple that with the horrid start he had to the season that combines to produce his stats thus far. Could his BABIP stay where it is the entire year? Yes. Is that likely? No. Sooner or later the balls are going to start falling and his average will creep up. There is nothing that I have seen in person or in his stats to convince me that his season lines will be anywhere other than in line with or mildly south of his career averages. And that includes last night his 3 K night last night which i witnessed in person.
  21. Is most of Florida really owned by the Marlins? That seems debatable to me. Everything else looks pretty spot on.
  22. Put my name in the hat I was just looking for tickets to that game.
  23. Soul patch needs to go and he needs to put a lot more stache wax in there before we can begin calling it epic. Good start kid but you got work to do.
  24. How is that clear? We are 8 games above .500 and in first place in the division. Besides who is going to make a decent trade for a struggling young pitcher? Anything we get will be peanuts. He looked awful last night thats for sure. The thing that is killing him is his walk totals. I think he gets one more start with the clear objective of getting ahead of hitters and throwing strikes. If he shows he can't do that or gets rocked because he is just throwing meat over the plate then send him to Nashville and let him work on it down there. As someone else already said not everyone is like Braun, Prince, Yo etc. Young players especially pitchers go through stuff like this. This is only Manny's second big league season.
