  1. If you are going to go that way I think you chose pretty poorly for SS and several other positions.
  2. When does Wolf's deferred money start to kick in? I don't like the idea of paying players after they are no longer playing for us.
  3. So the Wolfotarras era may continue. That's nice for both Randy and George.Kind of sucks for Brewers fans though. Hurts to see Kottaras trotted out regardless of the handedness of the pitcher we are facing.
  4. Sorry but I just don't get this desire to hate on every deal that is more than 2 years and $5M/per This is pretty off base. The dislike of the A-Ram contract at 3 years is mostly because of his age and durability.
  5. I couldn't wait to see Green at 3B and Gamel at 1B next year. I have to admit I was looking forward to seeing Green start at 3B. Seems like a long time since we broke in a rookie. One that we drafted and followed for a few years in the minors. Not just a guy we picked up off the scrap heap.
  6. Fielder is worse than Ramirez defensively and Betancourt is for sure too. Gamel most likely is as well. McGehee is actually underrated defensively on this board so he is better than Aramis and Gonzalez obviously is as the only good defensive player in the bunch. I would agree if Gamel was going to play at 3B. At 1B we almost completely eliminate his biggest weakness(throwing) and his peer group is much much worse than it would be at 3B. I think Gamel will be an average or better defender at 1B.
  7. Not by a lot but I think Ramirez and Gamel should be better.2011 McGehee .280/.346/.626 Fielder .415/.566/.981 I would guess .340/.450/.790 on the lower end for Gamel. Ramirez' career numbers are .342/.500/.842. At worst I don't think either will be a black hole in the lineup like McGehee was.
  8. Gamel/Ramirez 2012 will probably outproduce Fielder/McGehee 2011. Gamel/Gonzales/Ramirez is probably better defensively than Fielder/Betancourt/McGehee. Not a lot better but better. Ramirez is probably the worst defender at his position out of those 6 guys. If you believe that the Brewers were a 96 win true talent team last year I am not sure how you could go much lower than 94 even with Braun out for 50 games.
  9. Do you really think we are going to replace him with a complete scrub? Besides, a mythical AAAA player would be the definition of a replacement player.
  10. Your playoff chances take a big hit - the dropoff from Braun to a complete scrub could be near 3 wins over 50 games I didn't know Braun was 9 games better than a replacement level player.
  11. Nobody can match Fielder. Let me say that again, Nobody can match Fielder despite his defensive deficiencies. All we can hope to do is soften the impact of his loss. The fact that his defense may have hurt other fielders and his defense was well below average may soften the blow a bit will help us. I am not sure how much of a team leader he was in the clubhouse. He may have been been our best hitter but that doesn't mean he meant anything in the clubhouse. He played hard so that set an example but so do Braun and Weeks.
  12. It would be hilarious to see ESPN get sued and fold. We really need regional sports coverage. This national coverage is terrible.
  13. Seriously? No. He isn't my favorite but I don't dislike him either. Weeks then Hart then Gallardo then the rest. If Kotsay and YunE are gone I like all the Brewers unless they bring back Helms.
  14. I think you were blocking it from your memory.Yeah, I definitely was -- thanks Robin19 for reminding me. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif While the 1B/SS/3B aggregate is a useful way to think about how many individuals contribute on offense in baseball, I don't think it's a very useful way to analyze whether or not the team's better off without or with Fielder. He's been the unquestioned leader of the team for at least 3 or 4 seasons now, and is an elite offensive player. I don't agree that you can just take the aggregate of three positions & make that your target for the following season. And actually the main problem I have with that aggregate comparison is the implication that McGehee's & Betancourt's horrid, puke-tastic offense should factor in, in any way, as a bar or standard to measure against. The issue here isn't that Fielder actually isn't so irreplaceable -- it's that if the Brewers hadn't been content with league-worst production from McGehee & Betancourt, there'd be no chance they could assemble a group at 1B/SS/3B that could match the 2011 numbers. Casey & Yuni were that bad. The loss of Fielder, even with his defensive deficiencies, is a huge loss. No two ways about it.I think Weeks has been a big leader in the clubhouse from what we have been hearing. Plus I think most players had it in the back of their mind that Fielder has been leaving for a while.
  15. I doubt you missed it but Black Top won Gold at GABF. I really like that beer. We made a pretty decent homebrew American Black Ale a few weeks ago. Tasted great when we bottled it. We were targeting Back Top. Not identical but really good in the style.
  16. Good to hear. Fixed Gear (red ale iirc) is just one more solid local offering. I'm no expert on craft brewing, but it seems like WI has a pretty decent scene at this point. Yup, between Black Top, Fixed Gear, and Moon Man I think we have some pretty decent hoppy beers. Capital makes good lagers. We only get a seasonal hefe from New Glarus. What this state lacks is a brewery that can make decent Belgian style beer. The Vintage is good but they don't distribute.
  17. This is an interesting thread from a couple years back. It is funny how much the tone of the board towards Gamel has changed even though he has had very little actual chance to play in the majors.
  18. Gomez kind of stinks against any handed pitching.
  19. They have Fixed Gear in 6-packs now. So sweet. I had it a few weeks back at Oblio's on tap. Good tap list at that place. Looking forward to stopping there after Hops n Props in March.
  20. Some people pay good money to get eeled.
  21. I think you were blocking it from your memory.
  22. So we take in an extra $20m but how much of the revenue sharing do we lose?
  23. I'm not sure where the concept of the "deep pockets" owner came from, but many people are taking it way too literally, as in the owner spends his own money to play the players, really the concept is about teams that are willing to spend money on players. Brewers as a corporation didn't spend under the Seligs but they spend money under Mark A's group, the difference is how the organization is run, not how relative wealth between the two principle owners. I would guess the Seligs had something to do with it but also guys like Steinbrenner. That completely ignores the markets though. Payroll dropped when the team was unpopular and rose back up as the Brewers became more popular and stated paying of their loans. I imagine that most owners don't make much money off their own teams other than a few dirtballs. I would venture to guess that in most cases they probably give themselves some sort of title(Senior VP of Fans or some other such nonsense title) and a salary but other than that most of the money goes back into the team. The MLB payroll, I believe, only accounts for about half of a team's expenses.
