  1. That is honestly my biggest worry at this point as well. We are still not sure how the manager will treat young players. We really have little indication so far other than McGehee continuing to play all year until the postseason.
  2. Well said. Gomez has more talent than anyone on the roster. Lock him up now. He was rushed by the Mets in the same way Rickie Weeks was rushed. Many people who are hard on Gomez were hard on Weeks also. Weeks hit when he cam up and has shown improvement. Gomez is the same player he was 4 years ago. No improvement.
  3. Remember how bad it looked when Fielder, McGehee and Yuni had all their stats averaged as one.
  4. There were some frontloaded contracts in the NFL to try and steal free agents away because of the hard cap. Seem to remember the offensive lineman that went to/from Vikings/Seattle because the other team couldn't make the numbers work for the next year. I suspect the backloaded contract is because of the baseball inflation rate and trying to maintain a somewhat even budget. If the baseball salary inflation rate was 2% instead of 7% (or whatever it is), it wouldn't be such a big deal to frontload more. By this time next year, Wolf's 2013 option will probably look like a decent value, whereas a couple of years ago it seemed like a forgone conclusion that it wouldn't be exercised. The Viking/Seattle thing had more to do with a clause that would cause the entire contract to be guaranteed. But yes, front loaded contracts can work better in a league with a hard cap because there might be more cap space available in current years than future years due to raises built into other players' contracts.I thought that one had a clause that guaranteed he would be the highest paid lineman no his team. He would have cost more for the Vikings than Seattle because of another Viking lineman's contract.
  5. Gonzalez is almost the same as Yuni at the plate last year. Neither guy walks. Both have okay power. Gonzalez strikes out twice as much as Yuni. Over the last three years Gonzalez ranks a bit better, but not by a lot. And at 35, he's going to crash and burn before Yuni, who will be 30 next year. I don't think Yuni has played at a high enough level to crash let alone crash and burn.
  6. Ignoring lineup optimization. VS RHP Morgan Weeks Gamel Braun Green Hart Lucroy Gonzalez Pitcher VS LHP Weeks Hart Gamel Braun Lucroy Green Gonzales Gomez Pitcher
  7. Maybe McGehee went the other way so often because he couldn't get around on to many pitches.
  8. I would say the McGehee situation in 2011 was very similar to the Hardy situation in 2009. We were kind of stuck with Yuni until Hairston was brought in though.
  9. I know right. He played so well for us the last couple years we had him. He has been pretty good since he left too.
  10. Non-tendering is still a possibility. Teams have until December 12th.
  11. Career UZR/150 Hanley -9.1, Yuni -8.1. DRS Hanley(-3, -27, 1, 4, -16, -8) Yuni(0, -7, -13, -19, -21, -7). Without watching Hanley play a lot I wouldn't say for sure that he is definitely as bad as Yuni but the stats indicate he is probably close to the same class. Now maybe he was bad when he first came up and his last 2 years were bad because of injury. I wouldn't be willing to take that chance at his current contract. If we got Ramirez as a 3B I would be all for that. I am not sure why he would play 3B for us but not for Florida.
  12. No way, no how would I give up any of our starting pitchers for Ramirez. Sure he is a good hitter but his defense is Yuniesque. For the price of Hanley we could go with Furcal, Gamel, Green and still have money left over without giving up one of our starters.
  13. There will be very little gain in revenue from making the playoffs. Our TV and Radio contract is already set and we are not likely to see much if any upsurge in attendance. We may have made more money from the actual playoff games but that will be used up pretty quick. That was probably already used on 2011's payroll.
  14. He will be 34 by the end of the deal. Depending on how the money is split up I think this would have been a good deal for us. Much better than a 6/$120 deal for Fielder.
  15. The only problem I could see is if the Brewers get sold to somebody who isn't interested in winning as much. Hopefully Attanasio is more interested in owning a baseball team than making money selling the team. Unless the team is going to be sold, it doesn't' matter what the value of the team is.
  16. BR uses Total Zone for defense on position players and I think ERA instead of FIP for pitchers.
  17. You recommend having sex with your wife? Care to clarify?
  18. Ehh, it's a hitting coach. Guess we needed one.
  19. As much as it pains me I have to go with TH on this one.
  20. Almost no free agent will generate enough money to cover his contract except possibly in the bigger markets. Even that is probably debatable. You could probably argue that teams like the Yankees would bring in tons of money unless they have an extended streak of bad seasons. Even then they wouldn't Wins and losses drive profit. Almost no single player makes a dramatic enough change in wins and losses to cover their own salary.(other than prearby players) The Brewers wouldn't gain much revenue from national exposure. Sales of Brewers fan gear gets split evenly outside of at the stadium and a few places around the Milwaukee area. I think the national TV revenue probably is as well. All internet stuff is split evenly so MLB TV goes to everybody. Bottom line is that Pujols only makes sense to bigger teams.
  21. That is an emergency defensive alignment. All 4 infielders playing out of position.
  22. I am pretty sure most people had given up on Parra as a starter by the end of 2010. Heck I bet most had given up on him as a starter by the end of 2009.
