  1. All I heard today was how he had 102 more wins than losses and every pitcher with 100 more wins than losses is in the hall of fame. Gah of course he won a lot of games. He played a buttload of games for the Yankees.
  2. No, it is practically useless to know how he hit as a pinch hitter. What a player did 10 years ago is irrelevant. What a hitter did 5+ years ago has little relevance to what he will do. We know what he did as a hitter over the last 3 years. We can use that as a close approximation of what to expect with a little ding for pinch hitting and age.
  3. Either that or they want Gamel to spend most of the year working at 1B in AAA.
  4. I think I'm right that Kotsay hit like .315 or so last year as a PH. Awesome. Random stats. please don't start the whole small sample rant again -- I get it If you get it why do you bring up stats that are a small sample?
  5. I would say that Fielder, Weeks, Braun, McGehee, Hart, and possibly Lucroy are better hitters than he is. I would say that Gamel is better than everybody except Weeks, Braun and Fielder. I could see and argument for Hart or McGehee possibly being better but to say Lucroy is a better hitter than Gamel seems a big stretch. Of course you don't believe in MiLB numbers so why don't we just go ahead and say Betancourt and Gomez are better hitters as well.
  6. That 2008 team had a sub 4 ERA. 4th best in all of baseball.
  7. I don't think most people have a problem with a good veteran. The problem is they completely ignored "good" and just went veteran.
  8. i wonder what the privacy laws are regarding personal email accounts sent using company computers. My guess is you have no right to privacy when using company computers. You would have to check your company's policy.
  9. The other thing I would recommend is posting here before you come down. I would bet one or two posters would invite you to tailgate with them as long as you bring some beer.
  10. The production out of SS we got last year is acceptable in a couple cases. One being from a young guy with upside. The other bing a case where we are not in contention for a playoff spot. Both were true last year, neither is true this year. Last year Escobar improved as the year went on and was likely to be better this year. The Giants also play in a ballpark where runs are at a premium so an average offense is ok.
  11. Gallardo may be a good hitter for a pitcher but he is still a pitcher.
  12. Ok, I was wrong, Casey McGehee can play 2B. He also did not make any major mistakes at 2B in his 20 games there. However, given that a good argument can be made that he is a below average defender at 3B, an easier defensive position, and his physical limitations, there is no way he should ever be considered to play 2B, outside of videogames, except in the most dire circumstances let alone going into a season with him penciled in as the starter at 2B. I prefer my 2B to not look like they are playing defense in a telephone booth.
  13. [quote author=RickieWeeks23 wrote: [/b]Eh, I tend to disagree with you man. Yes, Hardy was a one time All-Star...but you can't just openly call him an "All-Star SS" as if he legitimately was, an All-Star SS. The guy was AWFUL and still is AWFUL. Getting rid of him was the smart thing. He was never going to get better here. JJ had one bad year at the plate. He was around league average last year with very good defense. He may not be an all star but he is far from awful. McGehee cannot play 2B. I am not sure why that keeps coming back up.
  14. I think you are underestimating that '08 team. The pitching was really good that year led by Sheets in the first half.
  15. You get the impression from Ash's comments that Weeks' agent is asking for a deal similar to Uggla(which I think would be fair) and the Brewers think that is to much. I personally like Sam's idea. That is how I have been thinking it should be done. From Weeks end I could see him getting all that money guaranteed by a team if he goes to free agency which would be preferable to playing time bonuses.
  16. Even if Weeks is asking over $10m/year he is worth the money unless you start going over $14/year. They gave Hart near $9m/year and I don't think he is the hitter Weeks is let alone at a premium position.
  17. I would recommend buying tickets in advance. Friday through Sunday will probably sell out through the whole season this year unless we fall really far out of playoff contention. The team looks really good so I wouldn't expect that to happen. Weekdays are kind of a crap-shoot but if you want decent tickets buying ahead will help. Any of the 4 decks on the infield will give you a good view of the field if you are in the first few rows. I would go with something around 1B. 212-214 or 318-322. The seats in the 300 level are a little bigger and padded. Probably a little more of a subdued crowd. Avoid the LF bleachers. Drunk obnoxious crown in my opinion.
  18. Thank goodness. I think that is what all of us who were worried wanted all along.
  19. The 2 people you would think are most responsible for Witrado's writing and him keeping his job are now gone so hopefully that helps.
  20. Ditto this. I saw the HoF in one afternoon, and honestly feel like I got about a 25% experience. I would love to go back someday & have two full days to peruse. If you do go to the hall of fame and you like beer take a trip to Ommegang Brewery. It is very close to Cooperstown.
  21. Madison native but ultimately a traitor.
  22. I like the picking of teams for the All-Star game.
