  1. I consider these portions to be very contradictory. If the pitcher is trying to walk you , how can you get a hit. I would rather a guy take a walk than make poor contact on a pitcher's pitch. If I had to interpret the numbers, I would say that he is probably pitched around in high leverage situations. Of course given the number of PA I think those numbers really don't mean anything.
  2. I would like to see OBP instead of BA. It wouldn't be surprising if any good hitter had a lower BA in those situations since they would be pitched around.
  3. There's no way that turning a brat 4 times rather than 2 makes it safer to eat. Maybe it does. Makes it more likely to be cooked completely. Of course flipping meat less drops less of the precious juices on the coals. I don't worry about juices with cased meats though. I just worry about flareups and puncturing the casing. I may flip brats several times depending on the temp of the grill.
  4. So our guys hit better in games when we scored more runs? Is that what you are trying to show?
  5. Sounds good to me! When can this be done? And then what? Lose Lee in 4 months? I wouldn't do that in either scenario and definitely not Gamel. No way. Read the bolded portion.
  6. Except play Gomez more instead of Edmonds.
  7. Tough. He is the player and players always want to play. Give him a day off anyway.
  8. Last year was a little different though. We were in first place into early July. We tanked in July after Bush and Suppan got hurt. By the end of July we definitely should have been sellers though. Things were a little more optimistic last year. We at least had shown we could play good baseball. This year, not so much.
  9. True but I would part with guys not coming back next year like Edmonds, Hoffman and Bush for very little. In hell and climbing out. We don't know if we are climbing or falling. If we are climbing it is very slowly and the right trades this you would speed things up.
  10. Several people have been saying that for a while. I would say Gomez is our only plus defender(and he only plays part time because of the old guy) and Escobar may be about average or a little below with room to improve. Everybody else looks below average. I was hoping Weeks and Fielder would be about average like they were last year but they look like they regressed. I was also hoping McGehee was just slowed down by his knee last year but that doesn't look to be the case. Lucroy looks solid but he doesn't really field balls so he has little actual impact on balls in play.
  11. I think you are probably right and I think it would also be a huge mistake.
  12. I am not to concerned if Lawrie can actually play 2B if we can extend Weeks. I would try to extend Weeks because it would give us more depth and options for trading. I am not concerned with having to send a guy to AAA if we keep Hoffman. I would be concerned if we had to waive or DFA a guy to keep Hoffman. Sending a guy to AAA keeps his service time down. Definitely agree. I don't want Svuem, Macha or Randolph as a manager.(or Brenly) I would hope they look at nonretreads. I am not hopeful the next manager will be any better than Macha though, just different. Yeah speed id a big help. Doesn't help much unless you can get on base though. Until Gomez and Escobar figure out how to steal 1B, they need to make fewer outs to be good hitters.
  13. You mean now that Macha actually made a decision on who to keep in the rotation instead of skipping starts and flipping guys in and out of the rotation.
  14. The 2 I like the best are UZR/150 and Dewan's plus/minus. Both are conveniently found over at Fangraphs.
  15. I have never had to do anything besides file a police report and get the information on the other person's insurance. Then my insurance would contact their insurance and cut me a check.
  16. This just made me realize that like our old "Counsellino" platoon at 3rd, we could call the CF platoon "Go Diego Go!"That's an outstanding observation, dlk9s. I miss our creative platoon names, like Counselnino and Grapler, so let's absolutely add to the lexicon.Typically those nicknames are saved for players we like though. I am not a fan of Edmonds and am only lukewarm on Gomez.
  17. So basically not old. ?? I don't get what you are trying to say here. You said a #2 couldn't be old, and I listed a handful that were 33+ years of age that clearly have the ability to be a top of the rotation starter. I never said I expect the Brewers to sign a veteran free agent to fill the need in our rotation. Just refuting your point. Age really doesn't have anything to do with a pitcher if they still have the stuff to get hitters out. I'd rather look at numerous other things before age when evaluating a pitchers ability, but apparently age is your top criteria since your answer to "So... what's your criteria for a solid #2 starter?" was "Not old". Sure old pitchers can pitch well but it is a thread about rebuilding our team so I am not sure how relevant it is to bring up players that we don't have access to. Of the players we do have access to the old ones are likely to be in a decline and not be a #2 by the end of the contract or the ones we would actually want to sign are going to cost to much so I will stick with "not old."
  18. So basically not old.
  19. A parking ticket for speeding? That is completely ridiculous.
  20. McGehee is fine if the ball is hit his way. He can't move to get balls though. His range is limited. Maybe Braun would be a better defender than Lawrie but if that is the case the Lawrie has no business in the outfield because Braun is terrible.
  21. Well, the Brewers decided that he had no value...or, anyway, less than Chris Smith. Yeah well that was the last mistakes in a string of mistakes they made in regards to Suppan. First signing him. Then this year actually letting him into the rotation ahead of Narveson and Parra. Then letting him pitch the middle innings in a tied game.
  22. The problem with Lawrie in LF is that we have Braun there for the foreseeable future. Braun would also be wasting his athletic ability at 1B and he pretty much sucks there so I wouldn't want him in RF.
  23. He said he would like a $2 million signing bonus for his son even though the recommended Major League Baseball bonus for that slot is about $1.7 million. If that is all it is going to take they should have this done quickly.
  24. Unless or until Weeks signs a long term contract I would keep Lawrie where he is. If Weeks signs a 4+ year extension then I would move Lawrie because he wouldn't have a spot on the MLB club.
