  1. It looks to me like the big bat is historically the most expensive commodity in baseball, regardless of position. It was the most valuable regardless of position. Over the last few years elite pitchers are still getting money while big bats are taking short term small deals on the FA market. The market has changed pretty dramatically over the last few years. Add in that you are talking about 8 positions vs 5 and you are also talking about a bigger pool of players. I think right now in terms of the general "market" in baseball, pitching has become rather undervalued while power hitters have become rather undervalued. I think you meant this instead. I think right now in terms of the general "market" in baseball, pitching has become rather overvalued while power hitters have become rather undervalued.
  2. Escobar at the top of the order rears it's ugly head again. He must have had a decent few games.
  3. 61 AB isn't 610 either. I would say it is more likely that he was moved into the 3 hole when he was hitting better not that he is hitting better because he is in the 3 hole. Those stats are trivia as opposed to showing a cause/effect relationship.
  4. BA and SLG are pretty closely related. Those 2 stats along with his high OBP to me shows they are not pitching to him in those situations.
  5. So you are saying you want Fielder to swing at garbage pitches. I think that is a terrible idea.
  6. Elite pitchers cost more than position players. That goes even more for position players who play easy defensive positions. I am not concerned with what CC actually did for us and you should know that by now. CC performed way beyond any reasonable expectations. Bringing in a pitcher allows you to replace your worst guy amongst a much larger group. If trading for Fielder would allow a team to replace even a poor hitting guy amongst several positions then he would have much more value. As it is, he has to play a position where you generally already have a pretty good hitter. I am shocked you value pitching so little. I think this is just another case of overvaluing our own players.
  7. Gomez has to get on base to steal. He has to play to get on base to steal. I would rather see Gomez sent down, though it wouldn't gain us a year of service time at this point, because he needs consistent at bats to improve. My main point is Edmonds has no future with us so why keep him around. We are not going to compete this year so we might as well let Gomez play everyday somewhere.
  8. That's nitpicking. McGehee filled in for Weeks last year and Salome was a catcher in high school and the minors. I even saw him catch in person at Nashville. Maybe we could include Parra to get the deal done. McGehee has played 2B but I find it hard to believe that anybody would put him there except in a dire emergency let alone trade for him as a 2B. He is not a good 2B. He is barely a passably 3B mostly because of his range. Salome requested to play in the outfield. He is no longer a catcher. He may eventually play catcher again, but I really doubt it. He has had a lot of personal problems to put things lightly.
  9. Fielder is not necessarily close to value of CC. Even over an extra year. CC is a huge upgrade over his replacement. Fielder is a small upgrade over his replacement and can probably be replaced for less cost in prospects and money.
  10. McGehee is NOT a 2B. Salome isn't a catcher anymore.
  11. Macha plays him quite a bit and I really don't believe his body can hack it. I also don't think he is a good or even average defender in CF where he plays the most. I do think he is a good hitter and wouldn't mind him playing only 1-2 times a week but that isn't how he is used. I don't believe he is a piece of our future(any year beyond this one) so I say we trade him for the best return possible. Our bench situation is cluttered enough as it is without having a guy sitting around injured but not on the DL.
  12. Forgot to mention we were at The Great Dane on Thursday and they had a Dunkel Hefeweizen Bock. Very dark and pretty good. Actually it is this one. John Jacob Jingle Heimer Schmidt's Doppel Dunkel Hefe-Weizen Bock
  13. Yeah we did the hardhat tour. They only have 50 employees at New Glarus. Doesn't seem like much for 2 shifts. Of course they automate quite a bit so they can keep costs down.
  14. I hope you mean improve the team for next year. I would hate to see him try and improve this year's team for a run.
  15. We don't have to trade Fielder by the deadline either. We can try passing him through waivers and trading him after until August 31 for a postseason team. Generally speaking I think teams pass all their players through or at least put them on waivers every year after the deadline.
  16. Good thing they brought in a groundball pitcher. That inning right there is why you don't walk the bases loaded and play for a double play.
  17. Well I thoroughly enjoyed my New Glarus tour. I was pleasantly surprised to learn the head of quality control at New Glarus(Randy Thiel, Wisconsin native) was the brewmaster at Ommegang Brewery(who make pretty good Belgium style beer) from it's start-up in 1997 until early 2008 when he moved back to Wisconsin. I think we had a much more in depth tour than most people get. Our guide covered the entire brewing process from how they make malt on. Had their Golden Ale again and it changed a lot since drinking it last year. Much more mild instead of like floor cleaner. Also had a Two Woman Lager that is brewery only. We had a few people in our tour group that were home brewers so they had some good questions as well. Our tour ended up being almost 3 hours long plus the beer at the end. Doesn't sound like they are going to be using cans anytime soon. I got the impression that it has been kicked around a few times but like many people, myself included, Dan Carey feels that bottles are better. There is a certain stigma attached to cans. I have been reading more and more about how craft breweries are switching to cans because they are more "green" and seal better than bottles. I saw D-man on the bottling lines. Sounds like it will be out at the end of July.
  18. Lucroy is good but catchers don't really field many balls so have little impact in defensive metrics.
  19. Wow, things are getting worse and worse for Schafer.
  20. The Brewers would have drafted Wade Davis if he had not been drafted when he was. They apparently had the card written with his name on it as their next pick when he was drafted by TB. Instead they took Joshua G Wahpepah. Rodgers if he hadn't been injured, Gallardo Davis would be a pretty nice looking start to building a rotation.
  21. Thank goodness or cruise control or I would have several more tickets.
