  1. You guys know that the reason that Fielder was pushing Parra around was because Parra pwned Fielder at Halo 3 the previous night. Fielder was mad because he didn't think it was fair that Parra got all that extra time to practice while he had to stay in the game.
  2. If I remember correctly Riske blamed Maddux trying to get him to throw a curve ball(or some other pitch) for his injury.
  3. Yes it has or at the very most to have a minimal effect. I wouldn't say losing Fielder will have no affect on the offense but I don't think any single player will be effected much. In the case of McGehee, I will believe he is capable of maintaining his current production when he continues it for a couple months into next season. I have to agree we are not Pirates rebuild bad at this point. Flipping Fielder for a near MLB ready pitcher along with a couple of our internal guys developing will help a lot. I would be a little leery of signing a guy like Lee.
  4. I don't think they made the Na'vi human enough if that makes any sense. I never felt any connection to them so when bad things started to happen to them I was just an observer instead of actually caring what happened to them. Of course I may just be a big jerk also. It wasn't a boring movie, though I did find myself looking at the DVD player to see how much of the movie was left. I will not watch it again and I am normally a fan of science fiction movies. I was just not entertained. The most entertaining thing about this movie was when I told my wife this movie along with Titanic are the only 2 movies I wish I could claim that I never watched and she told me this was made by the same guy who made Titanic. I really don't keep track of directors and writers. Not much point when every one is likely to have a stinker at some point.
  5. Well, Smith can't possibly be worse than Suppan I wouldn't be so sure. You have to be careful saying things like this. You might as well say a slow running catcher will never hit for the cycle with the Brewers.
  6. I would like to see the ERA, WHIP, and FIP for those pitchers over that time. Those stats really don't show me much.
  7. John Olerud went straight to the majors and only played in 3 MiLB games in his career.
  8. I would be more excited about this move if his replacement wasn't Chris Smith.
  9. Think for a moment where this staff might be if Loe and Axford had made the team out of spring training instead of Suppan and Vargas. Probably not much different. Now if we had Axford instead of Hoffman....
  10. I really don't consider less than 10 points of OBP improvement. I really couldn't care less how hard he hits the ball if he can't get his OBP over .320. His OBP is now under .300 again.
  11. The only evidence anyone has ever shown that Attanasio made Melvin sign Suppan is that Suppan is from L.A. and Attanasio went to dinner with him before the contract was signed. They didn't "go to dinner." Mark A. invited Suppan over for dinner at his house. Of course we will never know for sure while Melvin works for the Brewers. We might find out after Melvin leaves, might. There are strong indications that Mark A. wants a winner every year. If he is melding, we can expect to be the Astros and that sucks.
  12. Obviously his stats have not stabilized yet but his walk rate is worse than his career walk rate(47.3% vs 4.9%). He needs to put up an OBP better than .315 and preferably .325+. I just want to see improvement, mostly in his OBP, and so far we are not seeing that. A sub .310 is definitely not acceptable. at this point he has put up his best triple slash numbers to this point in the bigs and is still only 24 years young. That isn't much to be happy about when you still have a sub .305 OBP this year and a sub .300 career OBP. Bad is bad. I would accept his poor hitting is we didn't have options in the minors. We do however have Cain and when he gets healthy, Schafer. I wish they would just send Gomez down to get more work. He would have to pass through revocable waivers to do so.
  13. Like I said though, he isn't really showing any signs of improvement. He is a little short of enough PA to have a reliable sample(well short on a couple) but his walk rate is still low. All he has really done better this year is hit the ball harder. I have no doubt the skills are there, we have all seen them. but he needs to show some improvement. He also needs to sto trying to bunt for hits.
  14. If Gomez doesn't hit by the end of the year, I don't think he ever will. He has already had over 1200 PA and this year is his best OBP yet.(.301 so far) I hope he can put it all together at some point, but if he doesn't by the end of this year, he is no more than a 4th/5th outfielder who should get no more than a start a week. A defensive specialist. It isn't just that stinks it is that he isn't getting better. He needs to show improvement.
  15. Good, DL him. Enough of this having a bunch of guys around who can't play. It has been fairly ridiculous this year. Gomez, Edmonds, Hawkins amongst others.
  16. Kottaras is hitting well now but we really don't have a firm idea what to expect with him as a hitter. Counsell and Edmonds are old and declining so it is possible Kottaras is the best hitter of the three. In any case at least Macha didn't hit any of them back to back.
  17. Given who is in the lineup, Kottaras batting 8th isn't a bad idea. Macha did the right thing in splitting up all the lefties in the order.
  18. Losing Cruz wouldn't exactly be that big of a loss. Stetter either. Stetter is a nice player to have but he is still only a LOOGY.
  19. In Wolf's case, he's been very average since 2005, claimed to find something in Houston in 2008 to rejuvenate his career, and pitched well in 2009 for LA. Wolf was finally healthy for a full year in 2008. Hard to put to much stock in a year when a pitcher was hurt for a good portion of it.
  20. I didn't watch the game luckily for me. I can't believe that Macha yet again walked the bases loaded. IBB is bad strategy in most cases let alone to load the bases. The only thing sorse is bringing in Macha when the game can still be won. I had no problem with them keeping Suppan as long as he was the last guy out of the pen. You know the mop up guy. He should never be used as a reliever in a game that we are in.
  21. It wasn't the SLG we lost with Gomez so much as the OBP .342/.452/.795 to .301/.411/.712 is a huge downgrade at the plate. I think Gomez can hit better than he is now but so far he is 40 points of OBP lower than Cameron was last year. I am not even going to get into the strikeout thing. If you believe they matter, don't stop believing.
  22. I don't mind Edmonds batting 5th I just wish he didn't have to be in CF.
  23. I know nobody really likes Suppan but I have to agree it is a stretch to blame him for Heether being waived. Heether was one of many infielders in the system and was unlikely to contribute much if anything at the MLB level for us. Now he might get a chance with another team. This is probably a much better situation for him than if he had been stuck with us. Now if we lose a pitcher to waivers then by all means, heap the blame on Suppan.
  24. We have been eyeballing Gomez all year. If he can show some decent plate discipline, he will be great. Not seeing that discipline yet though.
