  1. Tapatalk sucks.
  2. Of course not. That is why we don't need a guy with high upside. We just need a stopgap.
  3. I would say Phillips has some upside.
  4. Stearns has already said that Garza is going to be in the rotation. It would be a terrible decision to not have Garza in the rotation. He either pitches well and we get something for him or he pitches poorly and is gone. It would be really bad not to try and get something for him while chasing an extra win or two by inserting a younger guy and using service time.
  5. Yet Gennett gets an base at a higher rate than Carter. Plate discipline is a good thing but so is the ability to actually hit the ball. Obviously Gennett's approach has served him better than Carter's when it comes to getting one base. I might add that Carter's extra patience at the plate hasn't really helped him hit the ball much better either. Carter has a career OPS of .764 vs Gennett's .742. I just don't see how Carter's patience makes him better than Gennetts swing away approach. That said I think Gennett would be better served to take a few more pitches. It could only help his numbers. Not sure how useful of a comparison that is. Scooter would not be anywhere near as good if he wasn't platooned most of the time. Also, Carter in a down year still had a higher OBP last year than Scooter.
  6. That can easily be done without 1. 2 and 3 have enough and eliminate all the weird crap Lucas wanted to add.
  7. Yup. He had one good year in the minors. Other than that he was bad. The guy has an 11% walk rate in the majors. About 3 times Segura or Scooter.
  8. I would go with machete order then start 7 and the rest after that. Machete order preserves most of the big reveals. Here is the long explanation of machete order. It draws a lot of parallels between Luke and Anakin and makes it a little more dramatic when Luke turns from the dark side.
  9. Machete order drops 1 out completely.
  10. It will suck if things don't work out but we were going to be bad anyway. Might as well get a little worse and hope to get a lot better. It's a lot more fun than hanging around .500 every year.
  11. Typically that would lead to a lot of home runs a la Dave Bush or Marco Estrada. Maybe eventually. Not necessarily if there is enough movement. We'll se what happens when he gets to the higher levels where the players can handle a breaking ball better.
  12. I don't know maybe having 28XBH in 114games 6HRs 1SB and only 12BBs? By losing his shine I mean what's his upside? Platoon bat 8HRs 2SBs and adequate defense? Shine is over for me. He offers 0 Plus skills anywhere. Just Average or below average. Walsh only had 54XBH 13HRs 17SBs and oh over 100BBs last season batting from both sides of the plate. a near .400OB pct. You're proud of .339 against RHP. The franchise just has better options to play someone with at least a Plus somewhere vs avg/below avg. Walsh's worst OBP in any of the minor with 10games+ played in a season is .313. That would be about the avg. Gennett has given the Brewers the last 2 seasons combined as a platoon type of bat. Tell me what Shine he presents anymore? He's put up respectable numbers against major league pitchers for 3 years and Walsh has not had one day in the bigs. I looked it up for a post a few months ago and I can't remember the exact numbers but Scooters career OPS against RHP would have been top 5 OPS among all 2B the last two seasons. And when you face RHP 75% of the time there's great value in a player like that. Scooter has actually turned out to be exactly what he was projected to be: average defense, high batting average, adequate obp, but with more power than people thought. I was a Scooter-hater when he was coming up and expected him to be a massive failure but he's proven me wrong and I'm more than content to riding with him until he's a free agent. He is what we thought he was. A platoon bat with not horrible defense. No walks and not much power.
  13. Nope, just said he wanted to win and the Brewers are not going to be good soon. I would expect every player to say they want to win if they are being honest. He even went on to say he would not dog it. Why would we want to extend him? He will be in his thirties pretty soon. I hope we trade him soon because it will make the rebuild shorter.
  14. From what I have heard he does not control the ball well in the zone.
  15. I think it is the weird delivery and the walks. The general lack of control is concerning.
  16. Braun has a pretty reasonable contract that pays no more than $15m er year.
  17. I guess that is what I am saying. There seem to be quite a few guys who could go either way in the lower levels. A lot of upside but they could be nothing. Our system could look even better in a couple years.
  18. I wanted them to lose more. I didn't want them to do it intentionally but I would have been much happier with 2-3 more losses. 2 more loses would have move us up to 3rd instead of 5th which is a significant amount of pool money. I would define tanking as losing intentionally for picks. I don't think any team does that. The Brewers are shifting their assets around so they have their talent concentrated closer together instead of spread out through the organization like they have in the past few years.
  19. We have depth but do we have many stars? I think we have a few young guys who could really take off but not necessarily guys who are expected to be stars yet.
  20. I agree, who cares if we have to pay the full salary. We need the talent more than the money.
  21. Perhaps we underrated Segura... Or the Brewers traded him to Dave Stewart. Yeah, Segura kind of sucks. Glad we could get something of value for him.
  22. Better question: Has it made the organization better? At this point right now? Id doubt one could make an argument the overall skill set is better. You'd have to be really optimistic to see value in the cast offs and very low arms we picked up to see value above a Lind and a KRod. While I 100% agree they had no place on the 2016 Brewers, they ARE legitimate major league key contributors and borderline All Stars, and no one we acquired fits that description. The MLB roster is certainly by anyones evaluation worse, so that will help the 2017+ amateur infusion. So in that sense, yes the future is much brighter. As for tanking, of course they are tanking. I do not see how this is even in debate. [sarcasm]How big a fanbase of Flores, Broxton, and Cecchini could there possibly be on this board?[/sarcasm] What possible reason would they have to even look at trading Davis and Luc, two young cheap performers? Those are guys teams like Milwaukee, assuming they want to win, would consider to be gold. Luc is a very rate commodity and Davis just hit 20 HR's in Aug and September. Why would you trade them (presumably for prospects) if the goal was to win games at the major league level in 2016? The goal should always be to gather as much talent as you can at one level or close to the same level. They have done that since the middle of 2015. The overall talent of the organization may or may not be better but it is more concentrated in one area than it was in the past.
  23. Ummm, what? Lara. Lara yes.....how many other Top 30 international prospects have we signed over the past decade? Mallen & Pierre where steps forward, then he got Lara but very little else. Most of our DSL team was 21-23 year old cast offs from other teams. He got a few steals in there Otano, Luna, Sibrian (was 29th before all the Cubans kicked him off.), Atencio, Segovia, Y. Martinez and Valderrey & Hernandez show promise. Still we cannot rely solely on draft, trades, and hope on finding some cheap diamond in the roughs, While all our top competitors are battling and being aggressive for top notch international prospects. But we can someday sit back years from now and say at least we signed Lara that one year.... Simply we need to do more internationally. Many teams have multiple DSL teams, we struggle to even field one. I know our old facility/Academy was pretty bad there but didn't we get a new one? You said not spending on international free agents. They have been.
  24. That is why it would have been nice to start trading pieces a couple years ago when Lohse and Ramirez still looked like they could play and may have brought some good players back. Maybe Garza as well.
