  1. Completely inconsistent strike zone today. That right there is one of the reasons you don't sac bunt.
  2. Wow, I hate this ump already. Now everything even borderline is a strike. Make up calls I guess.
  3. I am going to go ahead and blame the ump for that inning. Those 3 strikes he missed were huge.
  4. He almost fielded it on the other side of 2B I guess. I can't wait till we get Field/FX data.
  5. HOly crap is it going to be a long day if they are not calling that low strike. Three in the first 2 PA that were in the strikezone called balls.
  6. I would have said that there is only one game a week it is very easy to follow football. To follow any other sport takes a very big time commitment. Plus almost all the football games are on the weekend.
  7. Don't really like the lineup. I think Edmonds is clearly a better hitter than Counsell and I hate having a lefty hit behind Fielder. I wish managers would give up on protection.
  8. I suspect the Brewers are not pleased with his defensive progress or he might be the backup now. I don't think that is true. It wouldn't make sense burning up service time on him as a backup.
  9. Wonderful, Parra looks good as a reliever over a few outings and he becomes the reliever. Nothing like using a small sample. At least Suppan is out of the rotation. Hopefully when another pitcher gets hurt Parra will go into the rotation instead of Suppan. With Macha's reasoning we could still end up with Suppan in the rotation if he doesn't look good coming our of the pen.
  10. I still remember a game last year(or the previous year) where Lee was called out on strikes and Brenley repeatedly said is was a ball even after the replay showed the ball clearly above the knees and over the plate. He went on and on and on and on about how Lee got a raw deal. I don't know if I could stand having somebody who was that much of a homer announcing the games for our own team and I prefer my announcers to be a little homerish.
  11. This might be a bit loopy, but I'm really starting to believe that the only way MLB changes is if the fans were to go on strike. It doesn't. Like you said, what is their motivation to change? Record attendance and profits? The rumblings we are hearing outside of Mark A. seem to be more about realignment than actually fixing the problem.
  12. One thing I will never understand is why so many fans side with the owners. Teams are less likely to leave town than players. There is more perceived loyalty although I am sure if teams could easily move to different cities they would every few years. I don't want to see a cap either for one of the reasons TLB mentioned. I don't want to see the owners line their pockets. I wold also like to see teams share the baseball academies in South/Central America along with putting all those players into the draft. Also draft slotting instead of the negotiating that goes on now. I know a lot of this has already been mentioned but there really needs to be a big overhaul of the financial aspects of MLB if it wants to get better.
  13. I think a deal in the $6-7M per year range is probably fair if it involved a hometown discount. Per Cot's Second basemen The highest-paid active second basemen, by average annual value: Chase Utley, $12,142,857 (2007-13)Brian Roberts, $10,000,000 (2010-13) Robinson Cano, $7,500,000 (2008-11) Brian Roberts, $7,150,000 (2008-09) Dustin Pedroia, $6,750,000 (2009-14) Brandon Phillips, $6,750,000 (2008-11) Orlando Hudson, $6,250,000 (2008)Luis Castillo, $6,250,000 (2008-11) Kaz Matsui, $5,500,000 (2008-10)Freddy Sanchez, $5,500,000 (2008-09) Mark Ellis, $5,500,000 (2009-10) Placido Polanco, $4,600,000 (2006-09)
  14. I think you need a salary cap/floor in conjunction with revenue sharing. Better revenue sharing is what really needs to be done to fix things but if all you do is revenue sharing teams like the Yankees will just pass their money through the owner's pocket to increase their payroll. I would have to agree the floor needs to be pretty low. In cases like this year's Pirates for example, why should they throw another $30M at players just to meet the salary requirement? It isn't necessarily going to make them more competitive throwing money at over the hill free agents like Looper or Backe. At least not competitive enough to make the marginal wins worth the money.
  15. 2007: 7 ER in 17.1 IP 2008: 5 ER in 7 IP 2009: No relief appearances. 2010: 0 ER in 7.2 IP relief Total: 12 ER in 32 IP relief = 3.38 ERA Not exactly what I would consider lots of runs. Small sample this year, but it looks like Parra might just have found a role as an effective reliever. Perhaps his current success would be a reason to keep him in the bullpen. Sorry let me rephrase that. I see no reason to put Parra in the rotation instead of Suppan. Parra has given up lots of runs in relief. I thought that statement would have been over the top enough to be easily recognized as sarcasm.
  16. So is Oberon Ale. Love the summer seasonals.
  17. No reason to question his defense. He has the tools to be a spectacular defender. We are just used to our SS making every play he gets to because JJ was so solid. This is what I kind of expected from Escobar. A small drop off from JJ to Escobar at least at the start. Escobar has just as strong an arm as JJ if not stronger but he isn't as accurate with his throws. If, sorry, WHEN Escobar gets consistent, he will be a spectacular SS.
  18. Over 6 starts the difference between Suppan and Parra is probably only 3 runs.(assuming Parra at a 4.50 ERA and Suppan at 5.25, if we assume Parra at 4.25 and Suppan at 5.75, 6 runs) I think Suppan in the rotation and Parra/Narveson in the bullpen is colossally stupid but it isn't really a big deal until we get about 10 starts for Suppan in.(5 or 10 runs at that point)
  19. Kind of disappointed to see yet another mention that seems to indicate some knock on Lawrie's work ethic. Not sure if I would have put Lucroy #1 since his ceiling seems low. On the flip side he seems like more of a sure thing than Salome.
  20. I see no reason to put Parra in the rotation instead of Suppan. Parra has given up lots of runs in relief. There is no way I want Suppan sitting on the bench and making an occasional appearance. He is an innings eater. I think I just threw up a little in my mouth.
  21. I hate the Packers and I have lived in Wisconsin all my life. Stems fro high school. Have hated them since Majikowski. Country music as well. Achy Breaky Heart forever cemented my hate of country music. Edit: Forgot Garth Brooks. He sucks too.
  22. Hitting anyway. Once you count in a position adjustment and defense Bruan was better. I would still easily take Fielder's batting line over Braun's in 2008.
  23. You gotta check that at 1st ump. Nothing worse than an ump that doesn't check check swings.
  24. Ok seven years ago then. The point is that they are taking steps in the right direction and the Brewers were in a very similar situation in the not to distant past. They just changed GMs recently so of course they changed players. It really didn't make sense to hold onto expensive old players if they could get something for them since they weren't going to be competitive. It has only been since November 2007 that the new regime has been in control. The bolded part just sounds so much like, "Ben Sheet's They'll surely trade him in another season or two."
