  1. Well I guess it is good he doesn't play in the outfield for us.
  2. Wow this is the worst umpiring staff. CB Bucknor is probably the best of this crew. At least we miss Eddings behind the dish.
  3. He is working for TBS. It sucks not having him around.
  4. Wow a start in CF for Gerut. All he had to do was hit for the cycle and have the starter get hurt.
  5. It has significantly more stats than Milb.com. For example, Davis and Gennett are tearing it up, but they also have a .431 and .500 BABIP, respectively. I believe that minor league BABIPs are typically higher than you will see at the MLB level. Not that high though. I also was not aware that Lawrie has such different splits. His career OPS against left handed pitching is 1.016 in over one hundred at bats. His career OPS against right handed pitching is .723 in over four hundred at bats. Most hitter have similar spread in splits vs same and opposite handed pitching.
  6. I don't. The one I would have sent down was Villy and kept Stetter. We do need starter depth until some of our minor league guys step up. If we have a few pitching well at the all star break I say we cut Suppan.
  7. Wine almost always gives me headaches if I have more than one glass. Beer does as well if I drink early in the afternoon. I hardly ever have headaches the next day though. Of coursea I rarely drink more than 4 beers at a time anymore.
  8. We were one of the better defensive teams in the league in 2008 according to and about average according to UZR.
  9. Me either but they haven't really been winning a lot of game this year either.
  10. That's FIP for you. You can get hit like crazy as long as you K a lot of guys and walk very few. I think we could have had similar production for much less money than we are giving Hoffman. Per Cot's Mariano Rivera, $15,000,000 (2008-10)Brad Lidge, $12,500,000 (2009-11)Francisco Rodriguez, $12,333,333 (2009-11) Joe Nathan, $11,750,000 (2008-11) Francisco Cordero, $11,500,000 (2008-11)Billy Wagner, $10,750,000 (2006-09)Kerry Wood, $10,250,000 (2009-10)B.J. Ryan, $9,400,000 (2006-10)Brian Fuentes, $8,750,000 (2009-10) Trevor Hoffman, $8,000,000 (2010) Jose Valverde, $7,000,000 (2010-11) Danys Baez, $6,333,333 (2007-09) Trevor Hoffman, $6,000,000 (2009) Mike Gonzalez, $6,000,000 (2010-11) Octavio Dotel, $5,500,000 (2008-09)Fernando Rodney, $5,500,000 (2010-11)
  11. Wow, guys. I only get sleepy on two beers if I went short on sleep the night before. Actually more like one beer and it's time for a booze snooze if I am short on sleep.
  12. Guess Escobar's chances for rookie of the year just went down a bit.
  13. I have not had a big problem with him, mostly because I haven't been watching to close, but DeMuth is one of the bad umpires around the league. Luckily we miss Doug Edding in this series. He always has an inconsistent zone and a chip on his shoulder.
  14. Well if Baker likes him I say we cut him now.
  15. You would use an option when you send him back down though.
  16. Crap, Doug Eddings. That guy sucks. "He's 5 for 11 and ummm he's 5 for 11 against him" http://www.runemasterstudios.com/graemlins/images/banghead.gif
  17. You are talking about 2 errors amongst about 752 balls in play. Those 2 errors would change our DER to .661 instead of 0.658 which would tie us for last I believe. Catchers have almost no impact on balls in play.
  18. And those two little features you mentioned are pretty huge for me. Me too. Living 90 minutes away(assuming good traffic, which you don't get on a game day) it is HUGE that you know a game will be played. I won't argue that Miller Park is aesthetically better than Target Field, but I really don't care. I don't pay money to sit in a seat and look at the skyline.
  19. Fair enough. How deep does he have to go to be a 1? He is averaging 6 innings right now. Would 7 be enough? His problem is simple. Walks. That is why on a potential level I think he is still potentially a 1. He strikes guys out, does not get hit that hard, but struggles with walks which keeps his inning down. His average innings per start is good enough. The problem is that when he starts you never feel like he will go the distance like you did whenever Sheets took the mound. When Sheets started you felt like he had a chance to go 9 innings on almost any night. When Gallardo starts you hope he can go 7. I think he might get there but I don't think he is yet. I would like to note that Gallardo's walk totals were decent previous to 2009.
  20. I am not sure if Yo is a 1 or a 2 Yo is definitely a #2. Would need to go deeper into games to be a #1. I think Jeffress will get a chance to start again this year but wouldn't be surprised if he ends up as a reliever. It is the same thing year after year. He needs to get his walks down. To be honest until he does, he might not even make the majors with a good team. He may end up like McClung or Turnbow.
  21. The only real differences I see between Hart and Gerut is Hart has been given many opportunities to start while Gerut has not and Gerut could probably play a good CF. Gerut put up a .845 OPS the last time he was given an opportunity to start the majority of the games.
  22. Hawkins and Hoffman are really the only guys that have been major problems up until this point. and how they are used just amplifies how poorly they have pitched. If Macha would go away from his "guys in certain innings" strategery or at the very least change who pitches in the 7th or 8th innings the bullpen would look much better. Of course I subscribe to the "bullpens can make a manager look really good or really bad" theory.
  23. This isn't a predictive metric, it's descriptive, and while we can certainly debate it's merits and/or validity, in this case even a casual observer who's watched every game would say this team has been pretty bad defensively to start the season. I would agree with that. I think they can play much better defense than they have so far though. Our best defender, Gomez, has only started 17 games so far and our next best defender, Weeks, is probably about average. I was hoping McGehee would be better. He had a good reputation on defense in the minors and his Totalzone was about average. I thought he was just a little gimpy last year because of the knee. Escobar isn't a surprise to me. I think he can be a great defender but expected him to be about average this year. I am a little disappointed so far. Hopefully he gets more consistent by the end of the year. I disagree that Braun has been exposed. He has been below average for both years he was in the outfield. Zaun probably plays almost no part in our fielding rating. Catchers really don't field enough balls to make more than a very minimal impact.
