  1. Having to turn on the defroster and turn up the heat in 80+ degree weather so the windows don't fog up.
  2. He clearly said pitcher's pitches. Not fastballs down the middle.
  3. Didn't say they abused him. I said he hit the wall and became ineffective right around the time he hit the inning limit he should be on.
  4. Hall/Counsell/McGehee can fill 2B just fine for the rest of the year. No need to give up prospects on a rental.
  5. Interesting. It has been a while since I have gone to The Great Dane despite only being 30 minutes away(downtown not really convenient with kids in tow, yeah and the money thing, and not much reason to stray from D-Man and Oberon in their limited run). I will have to make a stop on Friday with the family. Hopefully the Madison location will have the Watermelon Wheat. Sounds interesting.
  6. I guess it would be more correct to call Doug Melvin the new guy than Bill Castro.
  7. The "most people" you refer to are those that wanted him to succeed and looked for an excuse when he didn't or were just plain wrong. The people I refer to are the ones who said Parra shouldn't pitch more than 153-163 innings in 2008 because his previous high was 133. This was said by many people, including myself, previous to the 2008 season. This isn't looking for excuses after the fact.
  8. although the signs that Parra wouldn't cut it were there late last year Do you mean when his innings got around the point where most people thought he would wear down because he hadn't pitched many innings the year before?
  9. If he had signed with any team other than the Yankees we would have gotten a better pick in compensation. I am happy he helped us make the playoffs and I am glad we didn't sign him. He isn't a Brewer and his team doesn't affect my team. I agree with BUC, I really don't care. I certainly don't wish him harm. However, he made his money, so even if his injury ended his career today, he is set.
  10. You are right. He will regress against LHP. It isn't that Fielder is bad against LHP as much as it is that most of our hitters kill LHP. Fielder on the other hand hits LHP worse than he does RHP, which is expected. I am not going to put much stock in under 100 PA when we have a much larger sample. Basically what he has done this year so far, while it shouldn't be ignored, isn't very useful when trying to predict what he will do going forward. Even figuring in a good year so far, I still think he is our worst starter against LHP except Kendall and maybe McGehee(not sure exactly what to expect from him). OPS vs LHP 2006-2008 Braun 1.114 Fielder .792 Hart .893 Cameron .892 Kendall .679 Hardy .963 Hall .910
  11. To be honest, running into something like this was probably expected considering the amount of innings he pitched down the stretch last year. Not just last year. The previous year as well. I think many thought an arm injury was inevitable for CC. That was part of the reason I didn't want the Brewers to sign him. That and the huge amount of payroll per year we would have had to commit. If this injury turns out to be severe, the Yankees might be able to get past it. The Brewers however would be severely hurt.
  12. I like this part best. Think about it this way: When the Internet let fans create their own content, they didn't fill their blogs with the substanceless pronouncements ("Brett Favre just knows how to win games") and profile fluff ("Today, one lucky children's leukemia ward got a Michael Strahan-size surprise") that you can see on TV. They started discussing teams and games in detail, writing thousands of words about minor roster moves and strategic decisions. Networks have finally noticed.
  13. Sure we can resign JJ. The cost to resign him will be to high for the value we get though.
  14. Maybe I missed it somewhere, but what happened to Brett Lawrie. He played on the 15th and nothing since.
  15. So maybe this Gamel guy is an ok hitter. Gamel was pretty far out of the baseline there
  16. Kendall is catching. Bush probably throws a no-hitter.
  17. I was happy to see OPS predominantly displayed when every batter came up during our ESPN game last week. Good to see mainstream baseball going a little out of the triple crown stats. Al Leiter was literally biting his lip to keep himself from interrupting. He looked like he wanted to smash Reynolds' face into the desk. Leiter tried to get a few words in (most notably, "Does Chase Utley clog the base paths?"), but Reynolds kept talking over him. Leiter gave up eventually, looking like he just thought Reynolds was dumb. Good to hear some announcers are at least open to new stats.
  18. Hopefully Macha hasn't decided to give up on giving Kendall at least one day off every turn through the rotation. It honestly wouldn't be surprising though. I expect Kendall will start almost every day starting at some point in the season. That is what Macha did with Kendall in the past and seemed to indicate he would do during spring training.
  19. I guess I don't understand what he is trying to say. Players are supposed to swing at bad pitches because walks are bad? I would think that if you don't get a good pitch to hit, you are better off taking a walk instead of a weak dribbler to the SS. Some players can expand the zone and drive bad hitters pitches. Braun comes to mind.
  20. I probably should have said "ignoring lineup optimization."
  21. If anything, walks are undervalued by OPS. They get half the value of a single in OPS.
  22. I meant that you had Fielder then Braun instead of their usual Braun then Fielder. I wouldn't bat them back to back either. I was going more for a "traditional" lineup since I don't see any manager batting Fielder or Braun #2 or the pitcher #8 like I prefer. I beleive any manager brought in will put Braun/Fielder at 3/4. The rest is going to get moved around those 2 in the lineup.
  23. Like others have pointed out though, most of those starts are at DH, not in the field. He only has 12 games started and 85 innings in the field at 3B over those 33 games. That isn't very much.
  24. Instead of just getting defensive. I have to stress this a little more since we so rarely see it and I usually ride the umpires for not getting help. Props to the umps for trying.
