  1. Some of the strike out calls are pretty flashy and seem to be done with the intent of drawing attention. Including, I will add, this particular umpire. Whether they are intentionally drawing attention to themselves isn't important. I should make it clear that I have no problem with Cameron getting ejected form the game. How he argued was somewhat questionable. I do however think a suspension was uncalled for.
  2. A pitcher doesn't really miss his start though. It just gets pushed back a couple days. If there is an off day, all it does is juggle the rotation.
  3. I can't believe that he gets suspended for 2 games when it appears the umpire initiated the contact. Like others have said though, I don't think 2 games is a big deal since he should probably sit 2 games at some point anyway. If he gets it reduced to one, even better.
  4. My guess is they will have a slightly delayed call on the first pitch. After that you have the lines drawn where the strike zone is so you can have almost instantaneous calls. You should get a pretty similar stance pitch to pitch.
  5. I guess for me it doesn't matter is he is ready or not. As long as we have JJ, there just isn't room on the MLB roster for Escobar. We would have to get a pretty good player back in trade to cover the difference between Escobar and JJ. That player would have to be as big of an upgrade over the player they replace as JJ is over Escobar.
  6. I didn't think of it earlier, but Stetter instead of Shouse is like having an extra arm in the pen.
  7. Well, the thread title clearly states "NL Rookie of the Year" so it shouldn't be to surprising.
  8. I think it would be interesting to see the Nationals play hardball and not sign the pick. Then I believe they would have the top 2 picks in the draft next year, provided of course they finish with the worst record this year.
  9. They have a LH closer. Why on earth did he not double switch and have Hall leading off the inning instead of having to burn McGehee there considering we had mostly lefties coming up. Probaly thinks Hall is in a funk and not hitting well. I agree Hall should have been double switched in.
  10. If you've decided you have to give him a few more chances against RHP (because of his contract, preservation of team morale, loyalty, whatever...) and want to spread them out, assigning the starts based on vs. pitcher x splits is no dumber than just doing it randomly. Since Hall probably has some recollection of whether he's hit a pitcher or not, you might even be scoring some brownie points with him by "putting him in a position to succeed". I guess I agree that it doesn't matter how he does it if he is going to do it. I will say however that I would prefer Macha give Hall a chance to succeed in place of Counsell instead of Gamel. Over that I would prefer Hall never start against RHP.

  12. Hopefully this doesn't put Villy back in Macha's doghouse. I doubt it will. Close and late, I could go either way on a bunt.
  13. I admit not being to familiar with the draft, but we don't pick until way late in the first round. I kind of doubt we get somebody who will be ready to play by 2012. Lawrie is by most accounts an advanced bat and he will likely spend at least 2+ years in the minors. Basically I don't think the player you are talking about will be available when we pick.
  14. We do only need one of Salome/Lucroy. We don't know who we want more yet. I prefer Lucroy since by most accounts hehas the better defense. We need Green, Escobar, Lawrie, and Gamel to play in the infield by 2012.
  15. Pretty sure we need Green and Lucroy. Unless we are going with Salome.
  16. I agree to some extent it was bad managing. He really needed Julio to get a few outs there. Once Julio was out there it became apparent pretty quickly that Julio didn't have any control. It looks worse since he had to go to Coffey before Julio recorded an out. Of course the defense didn't help out much either. That was a really forgettable game all around. Still, hard to blame the manager when your starters wear out the pen by not getting into the 6th inning for a few day straight.
  17. Have to play KOTOR at least twice to play through as good or evil although I don't think things end up much different. I would recommend Mass Effect if you liked KOTOR. It isn't based on Star Wars, but it is made by BioWare and has the same good/evil decisions to make. I played Mass Effect at least 4 times through. In general if Obi Wan shows up for more than 30 secs it'll be good. True, but I liked the previous Clone Wars cartoons better. I think the best way to describe the series so far is uneven. Some shows are good and some make me question whether it is worth having the TiVo record it. I think I read somewhere that they aimed the new ones at a younger target audience. The live action show they are coming out with is supposed to be aimed at an older audience.
  18. Well, we were 15 - 12 (.555 win %) on Sundays with our "give-up" lineup in 2008. I think to much is made of the whole thing.
  19. Considering the pitching staff is drastically different from last year, I don't think we can really compare the 2. McClung and Villanueva are the only holdovers and McClung made 1/3 of his appearances in 2008 as a starter.
  20. You can probably knock a little off for defense as well. Not much.
  21. Crap, Hall in the outfield. Hopefully it is in one of the corners. I am not fond of Hart in center, but at least he plays the outfield.
  22. What is with Cameron lately? This is the third game in a row where he was chirping at an umpire.
  23. Who is trading for him?
  24. I think the situation was pretty similar. It was probably even with Suppan starting. There is a one in 5 chance. Link Assuming average speed and bunting ability, the thresholds for sac bunting are .206 OBP, .132 SLG. 2006-2008 splits for Suppan are .219/.175/.394 as a hitter. Given that he might be slower than average it might be a good idea for him to bunt if the defense was playing normal. The problem is that they and everybody in the stadium was expecting the sac bunt. I have no problem with a sac bunt if there is a chance for a hit. With the defense expecting the bunt, I would think the odds of a ball getting through the infield are much better than normal. The only sac bunting by a pitcher that I like even the slightest bit is when Gallardo bunts. There I am torn between my desire to win my bet with FTJ and the best move to win the game. I wouuld prefer to lose my bet if it means the Brewers win.
  25. I have previously explained why I don't like sac bunting. I have also provided links to previous discussions of sac bunting. You like it and I think it is wrong. The only reason to sac bunt is if it is to try for a hit or late in a close game. That situation was neither. When the defense knows it is coming, it is just giving up one of your 27 precious outs. That play by Braun is a good example of why triples as a stat are a joke.
