  1. Oh, boy. Here we go.Hopefully this isn't the start of one of those innings for Parra.
  2. I am sure Parra will throw strikes for most of the game. He will probably have one inning somewhere in the middle where he gets the ball up and is all over the place.
  3. I originally bought mine on January of 2006. The one I got in December of 2007 was the one mailed back to me when the first broke. They tell me I no longer get a warranty since I bought mine over 3 years ago. I am probably going to give them another call since the manufacture date on the back of the console they sent me is June of 2006. I doubt I have much luck though. If I end up paying, I have no idea when I will get around to fixing it. I just can't stomach paying more money to them for a refurbished console that I feel is likely to blow out again in a year or so and sound like a vacuum cleaner while I play. $200 is still well shy of buying a PS3 instead.
  4. Can't wait to see the WPA chart for this one All the pitchers look pretty bad except for DiFelice
  5. or try to pick it and end the game.
  6. This is one of those situations where a strikeout is preferred to a weak "try to put it in play" grounder.
  7. Maybe, but the question is why even pitch to him then? Why wait until a 2-2 count?
  8. I always forget that the Astros have one of the Mythbusters on their training staff.
  9. I wouldn't mind seeing Cameron back next year as long as we have a good backup CF so Cameron doesn't have to play more than 145 games. Of course from what I understand Cameron keeps himself in fantastic shape.
  10. Yeah, I just saw now that he's back in the lineup today with 2 hits (including a HR) and 2 BB. 3TO% of 66%. Not to bad. What is his 3TO percentage so far this year?
  11. Not only is Mike DiMuro probably the worst MLB umpire I have seen in my lifetime, but on top of that he looks to me like he enjoys instigating arguments. What a bum I disagree. Doug Eddings is probably the worst umpire ever.
  12. Is anybody else with cable having trouble watching the game. This is the second night in a row that I am not getting the game.
  13. I have always believed familiarity breeds contempt. We are always harder on our own players. We watch them all the time and see their flaws. No doubt the same is true for Mets fans and broadcasters.
  14. So my Xbox has died again and it is out of warranty. They are asking for $120 to get it fixed. I am debating whether I should pay them to fix it or go with a new arcade version($200). By buying the arcade I would be adding HDMI and getting a quieter disc drive. It also looks like they are releasing a new arcade version with more internal memory on May 1st. I am leaning towards the new one. 1st one died in December of 2007 this one died on 4/25/09
  15. I, too, was at that game, and it was my birthday, matter of fact. It was also the worst game I've ever attended. I would have been ok losing 10-0 if I sit through a perfect game. Much better than 10-1
  16. Sigh, glad it was a great game. To bad my lame cable company had the channel out for the night. Not a blackout either. FSN Wisconsin was the only channel out and was still out hours after the game. Super lame.
  17. I am probably not the person to go into the math much, but I think it comes down to how Kendall will get his OPS vs how a pitcher will get his OPS. I think is we were talking about most hitters we would be ok using OPS. The problem comes in when we start talking about extreme cases in walks or power. Pitchers are not going to walk much and Kendall will so the difference in value for walks is going to be more pronounced. Especially after you figure in the higher value for hits as well.
  18. Just had a couple Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat beers. Not very good. I should have picked up the Oberon Ale again.
  19. Bush had a .291 WPA in his game and Gallardo had a .273 WPA in his game.
  20. 9/7/08 - Young goes 7 2/3 innings until Gabe Kapler hits a HR making it the worst Brewers game I have ever attended. I know you probably meant Brewers no hitters, but it wasn't specified.
  21. Anyway, this table shows that OPS correlates to runs scored at .9231 and GPA correlates at .9326. How many runs difference would exist between those two stats over 140ish games for Kendall and the 250ish ABs that the pitchers would get? It makes a bigger difference depending on the type of player. OPS is very good overall. There are better ways with linear weights that give a closer value to events. THT had a good 2 part article last week about different run estimators. I think the example they used was guys like Dunn get undervalued with OPS since he walks so much. Triples were another thing that were mentioned as problems. Part 1 Part 2
  22. Ketchup and sweet relish on brats for me. Also have to have a store bakery hard roll type bun. None of those soft, off the shelf, could be hot dog buns.
  23. I do like the unannounced soft platoon of Hall at 3B. Of course that is assuming that Counsell can play decent defense at 3B, which in my opinion he has not so far.
  24. I really don't want your posting priveledges revoked either. Though I probably disagree with you at least 70% of the time and more likely 90%. Well I think we can discuss a wager of some sort. I will gladly put up a donation to your fridge of your favorite beer vs an equal dollar value of a beer I like. I will take Kendall's OPS vs the aggregate OPS of Yo/Looper/Parra . I do agree with Russ that 1.8*OBP + SLG or wOBA is a more accurate measure of a hitter's value. Logan has to write no less than 1,000 words on Bill Hall being the living breathing demonstration of proper fundamentals on defense. and base running.
  25. I have had the theme song for Bosom Buddies running through my head for the last week. I have never watched an entire episode and only have a vague idea of the premise of the show. Something about 2 guys dressing up as women to live in an apartment.
