  1. On the other hand, he really hasn't done much with Tampa Bay; a useful 4th OF'er, not all that hard to replace. How come we still haven't replaced him then? I know I am not taking Josh Butler and his future with us into account, but I think not having Gross hurt us most of last year especially when Hart struggled down the stretch and Duffy is a poor replacement compared to Gross.
  2. Soriano just looks lazy much of the time in the outfield. Dewan's plus /minus has Braun at 4 and Soriano at -1. Theirs arms are at Braun 3 and Soriano 6. Making them Braun 7 and Soriano 5 overall. Bill James misplay/Good play leaderboards. In LF, Braun and Soriano both made 18 misplays(worst), but Braun made 14 good plays(3rd best) to cover much of that. Soriano didn't even show up in the top ten on good plays. It seems that Braun was very erratic as a fielder and Sorianon overall was just below average and steady. Both were very good with throwing.
  3. Gabe Gross. Worst trade Melvin has made in my opinion. Ever since the trade(and before) all we have talked about is getting a decent LH bat off the bench and a guy that can play all 3 OF positions without embarrassing himself with the glove or bat.
  4. We're going to need help at 2B for the early part of 2010 as well, since as accurately documented in Weeks's previous wrist procedure, the actual full recovery time is 12 mos. He should be ready to play at the start of next season, but he won't be full strength. We are going to have to suffer through a couple months of Weeks at less than full strength. At least that's what happened last time. He played most of the season, but had to have a little more time off. I agree with Gamel full time at 3B and a platoon of Hall/Counsell at 2B. I dont' think Counsell can handle much more than 3-4 starts a week though. I don't think his knee is full strength yet.
  5. I have no idea why the Cardinals are so upset with us. I thought we were very gracious guests. We did sweep over the weekend while we were visiting them.
  6. As for leadoff, why is Hart always assumed to be a better option than Cameron? Cameron's obp is about 60 points higher this year and about 15 higher for career. Not thrilled about Hart leading off at all. Career obp is .324 The career stats for both are pretty misleading in this case I think. One guy is 36 and the other is 27. Hart's career stats are mostly based on 2 year. One was really good and one was really bad. I think is is safe to bet his talent is somewhere closer to his 2007 season than his 2008 season. Cameron has only a few times in his career been over .350 OBP. Mostly 6+ years ago. He may end up with a higher OBP at the end of the season than Hart, but I doubt Hart is as low or Cameron as high as their current OBP. Going forward I would expect Hart to have at least an equal OBP to Cameron. I trust Macha to deal with this better then Ned would have. I think overall Macha will get things right. On a game to game basis, I think Macha has some pretty flawed thinking behind his lineup decisions. Most seem to be of the "well Counsell is 11 for 18 against this guy so I will start him" variety. As long as he doesn't play Counsell to much and tire him out or start playing Hall against RHP all the time, things should be ok though. Depending on who the DH is, Counsell and Hall in the same lineup would be a big mistake in my opinion.
  7. This sucks. Weeks has been my favorite Brewer for quite a while now. Against RHP Hart Gamel Braun Fielder Cameron Counsel Hardy Kendall Pitcher Against LHP Hart Hardy Braun Fielder Cameron Hall Gamel Kendall Pitcher Gamel doesn't have bad splits against LHP, but all of our starters outside of Fielder have really good splits vs LHP. Hopefully they go with a Hall/Counsel platoon at 2B and Gamel full time at 3B. Keep in mind that Counsell is still playing through a sore knee. We don't want to play him much or he is likely to break down. I thought this was the type of scenario that we were working out Escobar at 2B for during spring training. If this is the same injury he had on his other wrist we should probably expect him to get off to a slow start next year. Hopefully whoever our manager and GM are, they will have patience next year with Weeks.
  8. Counsell as an everyday player is not a real good idea. He shouldn't bat against LHP.
  9. Durham isn't really an everyday player anymore. I guess we could platoon Counsell/Durham at 2B and Hall/Gamel at 3B. Unless Weeks is out for the season, I don't think Durham would make much sense. Durham's his range is roughly the size of a phone booth.
  10. He couldn't even say the alphabet forwards. A couple of glasses of wine my eye.
  11. I have no problem with seat hopping as long as you are not inconveniencing the people around you who paid for their seats. Sit and watch the game.
  12. Had some Hoff's brats yesterday. Nothing special about their regular brats. They were on par with Johnsonville or Klements brats. The one plus is they are about half the price. Also had some of their swiss and mushroom brats. Those were fantastic.
  13. If you just want general Star Wars knowledge, Wookieepedia is pretty good. Link Sounds like books containing stories about Jacen Solo might be interesting.
  14. Am I the only one that feels like karma is starting to align against us? I think Karma is starting to align itself against LaRussa.
  15. They are playing some good defense. They also played good defense last year as well. Suppan is pretty reliant on his defense and some days balls are going to fall bad for him. Not necessarily the fault of the defense. As pointed out about his first game, he had a couple bloopers that fell and made his start look much worse than it was in reality. He also is reliant on having a favorable home plate umpire, or at the very least one who isn't going to squeeze the pitchers.
  16. The Thrawn trilogy takes place shortly after Return of the Jedi. Timothy Zahn was the author I believe.
  17. We need to keep Gallardo's innings down anyway.
  18. I don't give those away.
  19. In light of Matt Gamel getting called up, I have decided to have a Pedroesque mini giveaway. I have 5, 2008 Huntsville Stars team photos to give away. These photos were taken after the LaPorta trade, but before the player to be named later. It includes Gamel, Escobar, Salome, Omar Aguilar, Mike Jones, Michael Brantley, Cloe Gillespe, Brae Wright, and many others. Not signed or anything special. Just a team photo that includes most of our best prospects. If anybody is interested please post. I will wait a week(until May 22nd) and if more than 5 people post I will randomly select 5 people from those who post. Edit: I will pay for the shipping.
  20. Is Las Vegas a really good summer destination? I think the NFL and an NBA team would draw well because of the tourism in the cooler northern months.
  21. I think we should question Bill Castro right now. What did he do to turn these seemingly bad pitchers into a pretty good rotation over the course of just a few weeks?
  22. That wouldn't get me to far. She is like a player/owner and I am the GM. Think of it like I am Brian Cashman and she is the Stienbrenners if they played on the team. When things are going well I am allowed to think I am in charge and can do a lot of whatever I want. When things are not going well, we find out who really is in charge.
  23. I see no problem asking for a bat or something else from Ramirez at the outset. I think once Coghlan balked at that idea then pressing the issue is wrong. The Cubs have Ronny Woo Woo. We have HY. Both reflect badly on their respective fan base.
  24. I would have guessed more San Diego fans since Portland is in their farm system. Guess you just miss out on seeing Gamel play next weekend.
  25. Traxxxas looks like they are coming out with a really good 1/16 truck in late May early June. I am leaning towards either a Losi Mini-LST2 or Associated RC-18MT.
