  1. I am tired of the marathon steroid coverage. A simple report would have been enough, but to make every minute of every hour coverage of steroids is just insane. I think it is just lazy programming. There isn't enough to do more than a few minutes on it. The worst part is all they talk about is the past. I. Don't. Care. Move on. Work on making things better in the future.
  2. A-Rod is on ESPN right now admitting to using steroids. Link He did an interview with Peter Gammons. It should be on ESPN at 6:00 PM Eastern.
  3. Worrying about what a player will be paid is only slightly sillier than some of the other criteria that writers use to explain their voting.
  4. They should have had an amnesty and buried this whole mess when they had the chance. Has anybody mentioned that the Union could have and was supposed to have shredded the list. It shouldn't even exist. So much for anonymous testing.
  5. Right, and I said they were roughly equal over the last 2 years when you include defense.
  6. True, but he isn't nearly as bad defensively. He isn't good, but he is good enough to make them roughly equal overall.($31.2M/Howard - $32.9M/Fielder)
  7. Why would Ripken be a surprise? Steroids are supposed to speed up recovery. It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out he used. Nobody would surprise me.
  8. I ran across this while looking through links on the Hops N Props site. Beer mapping project. Seems like a noble cause to me. Interesting note though. If you search Appleton, nothing shows up, but if you search Oshkosh 3 places show up in Appleton. Madison is packed.
  9. The minimal cost of signing a draft pick this year is nothing compared to the payoff of a good pick a few years from now. Unless of course you people drafting are terrible at judging talent.
  10. Nothing better than a sweep on the road at Minnesota. Nothing except maybe a national championship. Maybe. Connelly looked really good for most of the series and completely lost at others. Loose pucks seemed like they was finding Badgers sticks all series. Oh yeah, now we are tied for first place in the WCHA.
  11. I thought the Rangers still were paying part of the contract, as technically he never left the Yankees or some sort of legal jargon. That honestly wouldn't make sense if his contract came to an end since he would be a free agent. Here is what Cot's contracts has on it. * 2008-2010 financial obligations (eliminated if Rodriguez voids): o NY: $50,695,500 (08:$15.884M, 09:$16.8985M, 10:$17.913M) o Texas: $21,304,500 (08:$8.116M, 09:$7.1015M, 10:$6.087M)
  12. They forgot to add that the Rangers picked up part of A-rod's contract when they traded him to the Yankees. I think they were still paying in the neighborhood of $7-10M a year until he opted out of his contract.
  13. He is a little over average for his career in RF so it would probably be pretty accurate to call him an average fielder. Did Hart have a leg injury he was hiding or lose a step last year? His range went down and he hit into more double plays than in the rest of his career.(well close, 36 for his career, 17 of those in 2008) I think we hold onto him. We sould be trading low and I think he is much better than his numbers in 2008.
  14. Link I thought that might be a possibility. Of course it is really hard to prove.
  15. Who pays if Sheets wasn't following his rehab routine or was doing something that would prolong the injury? I am not saying he was just wondering.
  16. Most of that was under the assumption that his injury was only minor and didn't need surgery let alone 9-10 months of recovery after that surgery. As to the calls for still giving him $15M+, well he's a really nice guy, but I don't think anything more than a minor league contract would make much sense. I hate to see the guy go, but there isn't much to be gained from our continued relationship with Sheets. Maybe hope he signs with us in 2010 and can pitch.
  17. At the start of the offseason who would have thought we would get better draft pick compensation for Brian Shouse than we would for Ben Sheets.
  18. and there was nothing to think this injury was as bad as it turns out it is. Texas had a 2 year offer that Sheets accepted. All he had to do was pass the physical.
  19. From the original linked article I think this points to some incompetence on the part of our doctors and trainers. My guess is that they thought they knew what was wrong and failed to look deeper.
  20. This sucks. I really wanted to see Ben get a good contract. So did I. Sheets was always a very entertaining and down to earth guy in interviews. ESPN just reported that surgery for this type of injury usually requires 9-10 months of recovery time. Link
  21. It appears Sheets has a torn flexor tendon and we might be on the hook for the surgery. Link ----- Moderator's Note: The old Sheets Watch thread was getting overly long and burdensome to page through. This will be the start of a new Sheets Watch thread. The old thread c an still be found by clicking here.
  22. Thanks a lot. Now I am depressed. I wish Sheets had done more interviews in 2008. The guy is just entertaining.
  23. That's pretty much the same thing we heard last offseason. Our current rotation isn't a world beater, but it is good enough to get us into the playoffs. We just don't have anybody when one of them goes down. I said when not if.
  24. Our CF for next year could be Cameron. I highly doubt it though.
