  1. I wouldn't call one deep in the minors a surplus. That's only one injury away from nobody in the minors. I would prefer to wait until 2010 or until an injury forces our hand. Players at the AAA level ready to play in the majors is not a bad thing.
  2. I am supposed to get excited about some people making a grab for money while making it harder to watch my own team? Not happening. My feelings are indifferent at best. More likely disgust if it ends up taking games away from FSN. Edit: I admit being bitter with the Big Ten Network over a lost year of Badger sports. I don't want to go through the same crap with MLB's new network.
  3. The Yankees are going to get breaks on the revenue sharing while they pay off their new stadium.
  4. I would have given Kapler a few more starts, but I wouldn't have benched Hart in favor of making Kapler the starter.
  5. I pretty much agree with that. I think the respect of the players is important, unfortunately. That limits who they can hire. Limits the choices to a small circle of people instead of getting some "outside the book" thinking.
  6. How do we know Yost didn't? He didn't do it very often in public, but we don't have a clear idea what happened in the locker room yet.
  7. I couldn't disagree more. We need a calm manager. We don't need a manger who is going to throw players under the bus just to make fans feel better. It matters what happens in the locker room, not in the press room. Benching players for lack of effort is one thing. It makes no sense to bench players for under performing. Time and time again, Yost stuck with a position player (Weeks anyone?) longer than he should have. If you look into the stats, Yost was right to stick with Weeks.
  8. I am not even going to worry about it until free agency starts. Until CC sees what other teams will offer it wouldn't make sense to even think about the Brewers' offer.
  9. I am not disappointed Sveum will not be coming back. He was with our team for 3 years and didn't realize that we are not built for small ball. I really have little hope that we will get anything better out of an experienced manager. I would prefer somebody younger and inexperienced who will work with our strengths. I know we have to hire a "baseball guy," but why do we have to hire one who will do things by the book?
  10. We need Parra over the next few years. I don't think trading him would be in our best interest right now.
  11. I wouldn't mind Jack Z leaving. I would like to see a slightly different direction taken in our drafting process. Isn't Nelson Cruz something like 29 now?
  12. I would say that we could put the pitching on Melvin. He brought in guys off of waivers and undervalued in other organizations. Guys that had a good season or two when they never had one previously. We kind of had to bring in those types of guys since we were not going to be competitive anyway and it didn't pay to spend the money on them at that time.
  13. Defense matters little as long as you make a few special plays and can hit well. How else would Jeter win a GG?
  14. He might have a chance. He is a pretty good hitter and doesn't suck in the field.
  15. Beane was always forcing his guys to play the game his way, the Moneyball way (high on base, three run home runs, low-risk baseball). Hire Beane for our manager. I really don't have much faith in a big name guy with experience. All we can expect from most of those guys are managery decisions.
  16. I agree. Go to a place like Buy.com. I got a 12+1 month card for about $45 with free shipping and no taxes. Look around the internet for deals on Wii points, Microsoft points and Microsoft subscription cards. Those things go on sale from time to time. Edit: Just checked Buy.com and the 12+1 month cards are $43.24 with free shipping.
  17. Just a heads up to everybody interested in either Fable 2 or Gears of war 2. Amazon is offering a $10 gift card for preordering one of those games.
  18. If Peirre was expected to have a higher OBP than Cameron, it might make sense to trade SLG for OBP, but what you are talking about is trading SLG for basestealing ans fewer strikeouts. Neither basestealing or fewer strikeouts would make up for the loss of SLG. Cameron is a better hitter. If we would replace him it should be with a better OBP and similar OPS not similar OBP and 71 fewer points of OPS(using career stats). 154 points of OPS this year and 109 points of OPS over their 2005-2007 splits. Edit: Pierre's stats are a pretty close comparison to Jason Kendall other than the SB.
  19. Seeing Escobar play a full year in AAA to prove his 2008 stats were not a fluke.
  20. change the complexion of their offense (better BA, 2x as many SBs, & tons fewer Ks) but still are no better off OBP-wise unless Pierre "regresses" to his form of the first 5 years of his career. Huge drop in SLG at the CF position which would make our offense worse despite the things he would add. I would rather have Suppan's 2 year terrible contract over Pierre's 3 year terrible contract.
  21. Many people, myself included, though Kendall should have had more days off. I am not sure how much better Rivera is as a hitter than Kendall, but I think Kendall would have been a better hitter with more rest. Counsell in any role other than a bench player getting 1-2 starts a week is a bad idea. I have no problem with the role Hall was put into as the right handed part of a platoon at 3B. Putting that platoon in the 2 hole was a bad idea as well especially when Counsell is the big half of the platoon.
  22. They stayed in their horrendous slump after he took over. Bunting and giving away outs is a terrible thing to do when a team is slumping.
  23. Yost actually once or twice brought in Shouse to face lefties at the start of the 9th inning in a save sitation. At least once it didn't work. I thought Sveum went a little overboard with the smallball in a few games. I didn't have a problem with Cameron leading off or Hall 2nd against lefties. I did however have a huge problem with dropping Weeks/Durham to 6th in the lineup and Counsell 2nd against righties. Durham and Weeks were arguably our 2 best hitters in the month of September(I know Fielder had a good month, but that was more like 2 good weeks since he sucked at the start of the month). I really hate the "go with the veterans: attitude from Sveum. I also didn't like giving Durham more than one start a series, but that is more of a minor quibble since the big reason behind that is not wanting Durham to burned out. However since there wasn't much of the year left That doesn't really bother me.
  24. Our tentative plan is to stop and probably eat at the Great Dane. At the very least we have to stop and get my growlers filled. We could definitely stop at the Gritty on our way to the Kohl Center.
  25. I prefer to call it a boom stick.
