  1. I am starting to have doubts about Sheets going to Houston next year. I am not sure he would want to be associated with an organization like that. This trade makes no sense.
  2. I used this as a basic sauce form allrecipes.com. 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste 1 tablespoon ground oregano 1 1/2 teaspoons dried minced garlic 1 teaspoon ground paprika I used 12 ounces of paste instead of 6. I also was probably closer to 2 teaspoons of garlic(there is no such thing as to much garlic). After mixing it all up, I split it in half, combined half of it with 8 ounces of Sprecher Hefe Weiss and let it simmer on the stove for a bit(not sure how long). I personally liked the beer sauce better. I think next time I would go with all paste and use the beer to thin it out. Edit: Updated pizza sauce recipe 1 (12 ounce) can tomato Paste 8 ounces Hefe weisse 1 tablespoon ground oregano 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic 1 teaspoon ground paprika 1/2 tsp salt Simmer for about half an hour on low-medium heat or until desired thickness.
  3. I guess I was wrong about your preference for SLG. You seem to be disregarding everything before this year.
  4. I could see LaRussa trying something like that.
  5. I am not to worried about Torres pitching 4 innings over the course of 3 days.
  6. It is pretty ovbious that you prefer SLG to OBP. I however prefer OBP to SLG. Mostly because most sources seem to think that 1 point of OBP is equal to 1.2-1.7 points of SLG. Not making outs is important. If stats are close, I will always go with the higher OBP. I actually think there is a good chance that Durham finishes the year with better stats than Weeks, but Weeks plays better than Durham from here on out, which is what I think is more important.
  7. I would agree that pitching Mota in a close game is just crazy. I don't agree that you should IBB anybody. Guys get themselves out more than half the time at worst. If Pujols beats us, he beats us. There is a greater than half chance he makes an out. There is no reason to walk the guy.(I also thought it was really stupid earlier in the year when Fielder was walked 4 times in one game by LaRussa, they were unintentional-intentional) I would rather have had Torres in there in the 10th so I have no problem with him hitting. He can go multiple innings and won't be used tomorrow after pitching one inning anyway.
  8. I didn't recognize any of the names of the umpires. That's the first umpire test for me. Not recognizing names is a good thing.
  9. Even if Gagne is never our closer again, his contract still looks better than the contract for Cordero.
  10. Just curious if anybody has ever calculated wOBA for each player on our team by spot in the batting order. I am wondering how much of an effect different spots in the batting order would have if a player's wOBA was calculated using the relative value of events based on spot in the batting order. If nobody has, I will try this weekend(it would however be my first attempt at trying to calculate wOBA), but I need the relative value of events by batting order spot. If it is in "The Book" just say so, I will look it up(I don't have The Book handy right now to check). I doubt there is much difference and even if there is I doubt it would be useful. I am just curious to see how different it would be.
  11. It seems like the decision is being made only looking at Bush's stats instead of comparing McClung's road stats to Bush's road stats. Taking the fact that McClung really can't be counted on to go more that 5 or 6 innings typically, I think Bush should be started all the time over McClung.
  12. Read the previous page to see the splits on Weeks and Durham.
  13. ------------------------- Moderator Note Several posts in this thread have been move to a new one: Yost: Rickie's "doing fine," but has "never achieved" --1992casey -------------------------
  14. I don't like this idea at all. I just checked and Pujols still gets himself out over half the time. He would get himself out a lot more if people would stop IBBing him.
  15. Pretty much the opposite actually. Sorry if you misunderstood my post.
  16. The splits on Hall/Branyan suggest that platooning would be a big benefit. The splits on Durham/Weeks suggest they would not.
  17. Weeks has better 3 year splits against RHP than Durham. 2005-2007 RHP Weeks .249/.346/.404/.750 Durham .266/.334/.419/.753 2005-2007 LHP Weeks .252/.393/.436/.829 Durham .276/.352/.504/.856 Which to me means that Weeks and Durham should not be platooned. I prefer Weeks high OBP against LHP over Durham's high SLG.
  18. Weeks has had a lines of 2007 .235/.374/.533 2006 .279/.363/.404 and a career line of .242/.350/.400 His career line includes the 361 PA from this year which accounts for 21% of his career PA. He has had 2 years better than the Marcel projection and a career line before this year better also. I don't think those projections are out of line at all. He is having a down year to this point, but I would still expect him to perform up to his projection from now going forward.
  19. I am not trying to single you out as others have said the same thing is this thread and others, but I don't buy this at all. That would be implying Weeks hasn't been trying his hardest all year.
  20. We have seen the same type of games out of Hall. The numbers are usually posted because the splits are far enough apart that the difference in defense would have to be pretty big to offset the difference in expected offense.
  21. We know that BA is the biggest component of OBP. Most people are encouraged by Weeks BA/OBP split because it is highly unlikley that he will have a BA under.240 by the end of the year. Your oversized letters are not going to change my mind.
  22. I would think that scoring has to be changed to an error. I have no idea how you can call it anything but an error.
  23. Really? I thought Counsell plays pretty good defense where Durham should be expected to play defense like Dillon. At least that seems to be how most people on here are describing Durham.
  24. Of course we survived. Most people's point in this thread is that we should have had some option to watch the game.
