  1. Braun being higher than Hart and Cameron doesn't make sense.
  2. Don't forget about the claim that he would hit over 20 HR's this year.
  3. May 29th for example Shouse came in with the score at 6-1 in the 7th inning. He faced S,R,L,R,R,R,L,S,S,S. I doubt we would see that kind of line for every game. It is the only one I looked at so far, but a couple games like that would cause a big skew in batters faced. Edit: I am not trying to claim that Yost hasn't miss-used Shouse and Stetter, just that without a closer look it is just speculation in my opinion.
  4. Kendall(B)- Nice to have a good defender behind the plate Fielder© - No power, No OBP, bad defense Weeks(D+) - Only things going for Weeks are a nice Ba/OBP split and improved(not good) defense Hall(D-) - Not hitting well, better defense at 3B than last year, still bad Branyan(B+) - Had a few good weeks, doesn't hurt us on D Hardy(A-) - One of only 2 player above league avg at their position(Fielder) in both OBP and SLG, solid defense Braun(B-) - Good SLG, OBP is dissapointing, solid D Cameron(B) - Nice to have a true CF on the team Hart(C+) - Good SLG, OBP is dissapointing, solid D Bench(A) - love the "throw away" games Sheets(A) - this is what we have been expecting for years Suppan© - so much for "the best ability is dependability" Bush(B) - slow start, one of the best in baseball over the last 30 days, one of 4 starters who could get to 200+ innings by the end of the year CC(inc) - good so far McClung(B) - not bad, better than most people thought Parra(B+) - needs to get deeper into games Villy(B) - bad as starter, good in pen Shouse(B) - LOOGY Mota(F) - and I wasn't expecting much Gange(F) - huge dissapointment Torres(A) - solid and dependable Riske(C-) - don't really have a good feel on him yet, was expecting a little more dependability
  5. Unfortunatley they must think everybody has to be eased back into doing games as the Saturday game will not be broadcast. Bunch of crap if you ask me.
  6. I do remember more than once Shouse being brought in for a couple innings when the game was out of reach by either team that would skew his splits. I really think that we would have to go back and look at game logs to determine misuse rather than just looking at his splits and saying that he has been miss-used. We would also have to take into consideration whether he was facing a true right hander or a switch hitter. My preference to face a righty right now would be Torres Villanueva Riske Stetter Shouse Mota Gagne I have little confidence in anybody from Riske on down getting a righty out.
  7. League average OPS for a CF is around .740. Like most of our players, Cameron has a SLG heavy OPS, meaning that they are above league average for thier postion in SLG, but under in OBP.
  8. Yes he was. Branyan is still expected to have better stats against RHP than Hall. There are roughly 1600+ PA for each that tell us this. Kapler was hot in April, and Ned kept him in the line-up every day. Cameron wasn't with the team yet in April and the choices were Kapler, Gross or Gwynn. Gross, in my opinion, would have been the best option against RHP. We all know there are peaks and valleys that go into the overall numbers, so why wouldn't you take advantage of those peaks? It would be nice to take advantage of those peaks, but being hot today is not an indicator that a player will be hot in the next game or for the next week. Edit: The problem with playing the hot hand is that you have to play them at least a game to long(and probably more because the guy is hot and the 0 for was just a fluke) to determine that they are no longer hot.
  9. I was wondering what everybody would give out for grades on each of the 25 players on our 25-man roster plus Suppan at the midpoint of the season. I am working on my own grades for them right now and will probably have it by Thursday. Team - (A) - I didn't expect this good of a record at the half way point especially with many players underperforming expectations and Gallardo out for the year after 3 starts. This is a team that is greater than the sum of their parts right now. Offense - (B-) - I think most of the underperforming is on the offensive side Pitching - (B+) - I give the starting pitching an A and the bulpen a C+. Biggest surprise of the first half(that keeps on giving) - Gabe Gross scores winning run only to be traded minutes later. Now the team is looking for a LH bat. That gets a big "what the heck are they doing" from me. Biggest dissapointment - Gallardo getting hurt.
  10. Ignoring outside influences(pitcher's turn to bat in close game, ineffectiveness, etc.) I don't mind going up to around 120 pitches with CC, Sheets, Suppan, Bush, or McClung as long as they have an extra day of rest before or after their start. Otherwise I would prefer 110 pitches. Suppan (and Maybe Bush) are not "max effort" pitchers so I don't think the extra pitches will hurt them as much. Sheets and CC are work horses and used to the high pitch counts. The only one I would really worry about having high pitch counts is Parra.
  11. It won't be. The stadium is getting torn down after this year.
  12. The runner can leave as soon as the RFer touches the ball I believe. I think somebody asked this question in the off topic forums a few weeks back.
  13. I would prefer all our players to take a few days off to rest and recover for the 2nd half push.
  14. That sucks. I want him ready to pitch for us. I don't care about the All Star game.
  15. I guess that the Brewers agree or we wouldn't see Turnbow starting games in AAA.
  16. He is .01 pitches per PA above his career average this year.
  17. That's sort of what I was thinking. I think if the difference is that small, we might be better off moving him to the pen for a month and having him for the playoffs.
  18. If Kapler was a regular starter, which he isn't, I wouldn't have a problem with moving him up to leadoff and dropping Weeks in the batting order.
  19. I can't deny that Bush has weird home road splits, but I don't agree that a starting pitching platoon makes sense.
  20. Ever since I lost 2 years of my life playing Civ 2 I avoid all Civ games. Just one more technology. I almost have a Wonder of the World. 9 hours later I haven't slept and have to go to work. Great games.
  21. I actually would like to see Sheets and CC split up by another guy in the rotation.
  22. I hate the wave. I don't care when or what kind it is. It doesn't matter how much I drink. Drunk sober, it's still doesn't belong in baseball.
  23. Career splits vs RHP Branyan .243/.334/.490 Hall .252/.301/.446 If you chose Hall over Branyan while looking at these stats or believe that K's are worse than any other out, we really don't have any common ground to discuss anything on this topic. Doug Melvin himself has stated that he had his stat guys look at changing every K to an out in play and it made little difference over the course of the whole year. I am not arguing numbers, I am arguing what I see when I watch the games. Considering that the difference between a .300 hitter and a .250 hitter is one hit a a week, the only way to objectively look at hitters is with stats.
