  1. From what I have read(admittedly little) optimizing a lineup compared to a traditional lineup would add very little over the course of an entire season. Maybe one win.
  2. Are there even tickets left to the may 10th game? That was one of the Spring madness games.
  3. I know Weeks got paid more than Fielder, but I don't think Weeks complained about his contract despite the fact he had to take a 20% cut in pay from last year. I believe he even signed his contract.
  4. The Cards will be much better next year after they sign Sheets.
  5. The biggest extreme I have seen or heard about in lineup building was 5 wins per year. That was an optimized lineup compared to the absolute worst lineup, pitcher leading off. So a difference of 50 runs. I have a hard time believing that switching your 2 worst hitters in the lineup would have a 25-30 run difference if leading off with your pitcher and batting Fielder last would make a 50 run difference.
  6. I really don't see the point in moving Zambrano back as we have faced him enough in the past few years that it really should make little or no difference.
  7. I seem to remember a rookie who went 0-17 to start. I think he had something like 10 K's also. I think he turned out ok.
  8. I would agree with that. I think it will end up being Fielder wanting more years than we are willing to offer. That and the amount we end up paying Fielder could be enough to keep 2-3 players instead of just one.
  9. I would have thought that Weeks should bat leadoff because of his huge BA/OBP split. The Book says that your leadoff hitter should be a guy who gets on base a lot by means other than hits. So I would take that to mean a high OBP/Low BA guy would bat leadoff. I also agree with Sam that Cameron, Hall and Hary are pretty interchangable. Just my opinion though. By the way, I was just thinking that my criticsm of LaRussa batting Pujols 3rd would also apply to Yost batting Baun or Fielder 3rd, but Casey beat me to it. I am still hoping that Yost will bat either Fielder or Braun 2nd. Doing one and not the other just seems to be odd to me as I would think there is more actual benifit to moving Braun/Fielder to #2 than switching Kendall and the pitcher. I thought the Book said closer to 2-3 runs for switching the pitcher and 8th hitter. 25-30 runs is thought to be 2.5-3 wins. I highly doubt that to be the case. I am not sure if a totally optimized lineup like Russ has would add up to 25-30 runs over a traditional lineup.
  10. Do they get a special designation? Like Mr/Mrs/Ms 3000.
  11. I hope not. At some point we are going to have to start leaving guys down in the minors who may be ready to play in MLB.
  12. I hope it doesn't lead to more sac bunts. That would more than negate the benifit of batting the pitcher 8th.
  13. Yup, bringing up LaPorta is going to be a big discussion next offseason.
  14. Office Space - even if you don't work in an office it is funny. "Why should I change my name? He's the one who sucks." Grosse Point Blank Monty Python and the Holy Grail Mallrats Groundhog Day This is Spinal Tap - "but this one goes to 11."
  15. I hope so as well. Bottom line is that I am a Brewers fan, as are most people here. I am not a Fielder fan. I like Prince, but my loyalty lies with the Brewers' franchise, not the players. I don't want to see anything done to cripple the franchise. In my mind a long term contract with Prince has much more potential to harm the team than help. Prince is a very good player, but being a power hitting 1st baseman who plays below average defense isn't exactly a rare skillset.
  16. What does that mean exactly though? Seems to me that could mean they will not break the bank or do a long, potentially franchise crippling contract.
  17. Hall is probably a 20-25 HR guy. If we bat Fielder and Braun back to back that is 40 PA either way that will be with the bases empty for the next guy.
  18. Are you saying that 75% of the public can't do simple math?
  19. Just a short recap.. Your 3 best hitters whould hit 1, 2, and 4. #1 the player who reaches base the highest percentage of the time by means other than hits. Lowest SLG guy of the three. He comes up the most with nobody on base. Mostly because of starting the game, but also because the poorest hitters bat at the bottom of the lineup. #2 is your third best hitter #4 is your best hitter highest SLG of the three This keeps Braun and Fielder from stealing eachothers rbi opportunities #5 is your 4th best hitter #3 is your 5th best hitter the #3 hitter comes up the most often with 2 outs so you don't want one of your better hitters coming up with 2 outs.
  20. The contracts in the NFL are hardly worth the paper they are written on. The only part that is guaranteed is the signing bonus. You take a one year hit if you get rid of the player. In MLB the contracts are guaranteed so you are in it for 10 years or however long the contract is.
  21. Never, never, never. 10 Years is just way to long for a contract.
  22. See what I mean. LaPorta is going to be ready, but we will have depth enough to justify keeping him in AAA. I think this is a good thing. We are going to start having guys in AAA ready to play in the majors with no place to play them. It is going to start coming down to whether we want to keep guys playing everyday or bring them up to sit the bench and have their arby clocks start. Much like Villanueva this year. Do we want him to be the long guy out of the pen sitting for 9 out of 10 days and doing nothing because he is one of our 12-13 best pitchers, or is it better to leave him in AAA pitching every 5 days? Sorry to sidetrack the thread.
  23. Yeah I know. It is a pretty popular vacation area.
  24. No the discussion will be that we shouldn't pick up Cameron's option so we have a spot for LaPorta. That or we should keep LaPorta as a backup to get him at bats vs we should keep him playing regular in AAA and keep his service time down.
