  1. He had a .236 OBP the year before. Fun with small samples.
  2. He has a .593 OPS against LHP over his career. I don't think under 45 PA is more relevant than his career line against LHP. He wasn't a good hitter coming up through the minors. He is just a bad hitter. Giving Lucroy a full day off is much better than squeezing Maldanodo and his horrible bat into the lineup any more than necessary. The other side of the 1B platoon doesn't need to be restrained to 1B only.
  3. Neither does making room for Maldonado's bat.
  4. Last season the 1st hitter had 743 PA for the Brewers. The 8th hitter had 614. Do you really want to pinch hit Segura for every single other hitter in the lineup 18 times each? Would you rather have the only hitter who doesn't strike out on our team besides Lucroy hit eighth the entire season and see a fastball one in every ten pitches? I like your calculation to make your point, but now calculate how much the current-leadoff scenario strikes out in there.... Pitchers pitch to the hitter not the spot in the order. Don't' give more PA to worse hitters. Strikeouts are the same as other outs almost all the time and matter even less at the top of the order where the bases are empty more often than any other spot in the order.
  5. I would say the Cubs have more quantity in terms of hitting prospects, rather than quality. Their pitching is also probably better but only in terms of depth. Lester is comparable to Sheets and then they have a bunch of middle of the rotation guys who were better then the Brewers bottom feeders like Dave Bush, Doug Davis, and Wes Obermueller. The question is will they have the same luck the Brewers had with their prospects turning into quality major leaguers. Fielder, Hardy, Hart, Braun, and Weeks all became solid major league starters - at worst. That sort of success rate rarely happens and even rarer all at one time. That's what I thought. They have more quantity than we did. Instead of making their "Sexson" trade for MLB players they traded for more prospects. 2004 Brewers with more mone and more talent assets. Scary.
  6. How do the Cubs now compare to the Brewers around 2004? It seems like the Cubs now have more young talent. It also seems like the Cubs were more willing to trade away a MLB guy to get a few more young guys instead of trading for MLB players.
  7. Doug has been doing a great job of keeping the Brewers mediocre.
  8. I liked being a fan in the early part of this century. There was hope. I wouldn't mind being a fan of the Cubs over the last 3 years if they weren't, you know, the Cubs. The team was building a strong foundation fo the future. We are spinning our wheels and have been for a few years now.
  9. How will watching the Cubs improve and win more games be fun?
  10. What was Mo Rivera's last extension? ... So closers(and by extension relievers) should only be signed for more than 2 years if they are once in a lifetime talent.
  11. When is the last time a deal signed by a closer worked out?
  12. Do we really know that for a fact, or just because he didn't fail a test? Any number of documentaries (Lance Armstrong) and stories in print are out there about how relatively easy it is to avoid detection if you're getting advice from the "correct" doctors. The cheaters are always ahead of the testing. True. I just think it would be colossally stupid to be flirting with disaster in the '12 season especially, when he was tested a ton. I realize others may have differing opinions on just how stupid and/or arrogant Braun is. But I don't believe he was PEDing it up in '12 & '13... risk/reward doesn't add up for me there. There really hasn't been much incentive to cheat after he signed his last contract but he still did.
  13. They were arguably the best team in baseball for the first month. After that they were fairly average until they tanked.
  14. If Lucroy isn't catching he should have the full day off. If he is playing we should have a bat in the order better than Maldonado.
  15. .746 OPS is still better than Maldonado.
  16. Don't see to many wall scrapers there.
  17. Isn't WAR a counting stat? If so, is that counting when Reynolds (as 3B) and Overbay were both playing full games the same day or even when one was a PH or is this just their WAR as 1B? Also wasn't Lind injured for part of 2014 and missed some games? Yes it is a counting stat. Fangraphs doesn't split out WAR by position. We ran ionto the same problem last year when people were quoting WAR for 1B. It counted negative WAR when players were not playing 1B.
  18. Our 10th in the NL, by ERA,(6th by runs) pitching was special but our 6th in the NL offense, by runs, doomed us? I don't buy it. I don't think people are down on our prospects as much as last year but the good ones we have are more than a year or two away by which time we will have lost a good chunk of our current MLB talent. Yeah Gennett and Davis are nice but they are not stars. They are solid MLB contributors. Unfortunately ours stars have fallen a bit. I don't think signing a guy like Scherzer will help enough to make the signing worth while. It also has the potential to be franchise crippling.
  19. The Reds were very unlucky with injuries while we were very lucky with injuries. We have an aging team with Braun and Ramirez being big injury risks. Lucroy and maybe Gomez are the only bats I would trust in the order every day. Gennett and Lind being good but probably needing a platoon partner to produce positive value.
  20. Because that isn't real money they can spend. That only becomes real money if the team changes hands.
  21. They had some luck that injuries were minimal this year. If Gennett is the full time 2B there is a strong possibility he not only negates Weeks positive contribution but diminishes his own. Fiers could help the rotation improve and we can still hope Peralta improves a bit. My guess is that were will be somewhere between 80 and 86 wins in 2015.
  22. This is the TV I have. My only complaint is it only has 2 HDMI inputs. I think something a little bigger would have been nice also.
  23. I have a 42" Samsung I bought a couple years back that is a dumb TV. I know they had larger n the same model. I have not really looked to closely at TV's for a year or so I am not sure how readily available dumb TV's are.
  24. Maldonado was a pretty bad hitter all through the minors.
