    The things he does well are not well like by many fans. He was bad on defense for most of his career but even during his few "good" defense years had good range but botched easy plays. He carried a low BA but had a good OBP most of his career and he struck out a lot. Heck even this year he has a good batting line. Of course that is probably because of the platoon. He has been close to or better than average as a hitter for his whole career outside of 2013 and 2003-2004.

    When people talk about all in it is sacrificing a good part of talent in the future to make this year better.

    If he finishes strong no way he gets traded. Not how DM operates.

    That is questionable. Maybe they were just paying over their heads in the first half. We have a lot of players without a long enough history to say with a lot of certainty that they are playing below their ability. Gomez, Lucroy, Gennett, Davis, and Segura are all mostly unknown as to what we should expect.

    I think you hit on why the system was viewed as being pretty poor. Little high upside talent. I am not sure we will get a big jump in the rankings until some of the recently drafted guys do well for a full season but I wouldn't be surprised to see us as a middle of the pack farm system.(which I guess would actually be a huge jump from where we were) I think the newest picks will get a little dragged down the rankings by association. While it's nice to have all those MLB starting caliber pitchers the lack of a true top of the rotation starter really hurts. Do we have any All-Star level prospects? That was the other concern.

    Most successful but only by attrition. Sheets had far better stuff.

    He was hurt most of the 2008 season. He has been a little better than league average for us. The only thing of note is that he is homegrown.

    Gallardo is just a guy. He hasn't really done anything special or stood out in any way. Sure he has the all time strikeout lead for the team but that's just because of how long he pitched. I would retire Sheet's number before Gallardo and I wouldn't retire Sheet's number either.

    But he has done nothing with a pretty talented roster. I thought we were about a 84ish win team to start the season so we are right about where I thought they would be. The win distribution is a little depressing though.

    I think a lot of people didn't like Yost's personality. He was more hit tempered than DPR.

    The Rockies are kind of in that dangerous gray area where their team isn't so bad that they need to tear it up and rebuild, but not so good they can really make some big time moves to contend next season either. Similar to the Brewers of last year. Good thing we have played over expectations this year.

    Rogers is old for his level. Has been at almost every level. Probably why he isn't getting looked at much.

    Not really selective at all. Just look at his UZR in 2007. Errors are a terrible way to judge fielders. I wouldn't even bother with them at all. That is why I used UZR in post #297. If we had a spectrum of fielders it would be Gomez Good fielders Average fielders Bad fielders Yuni Braun at 3B

    Sure it's raised some money that otherwise wouldn't have been donated but I guarantee you that much of the money would have gone to other charities. My guess is that most of the money this has raised would have been donated somewhere anyway. I have no doubt this has raised awareness of ALS but they are taking money of of the pockets of other charities.

    It looked worse than it really was because there were a lot of close games in the first month with a lot of bullpen innings. Mop up guys wouldn't have been used in those situations either way.

    Probably something that isn't worth anybody's time look up, but can anybody remember a team with more "#3 starters" than the Brewers right now? You could probably make a reasonable argument for any order 1 - 4 between Garza, Lohse, Peralta, and Gallardo; ERA's are all within a quarter of a run of each other (3.32 - 3.58). On top of that, career ERA's of Fiers and Nelson (using career due to sample size, still obviously small with Nelson) are 3.75 and 3.59, respectively. With the race this close, I probably wouldn't mess with a 6-man rotation, but I'd be hard-pressed to take Fiers out of the rotation right now given his performance. Anybody have an idea on Nelson's innings cap this season? He's thrown 150-160 each of the past few years and he's already at 158, on pace for probably 190 - 200 if he pitches on regular rest. Starting Fiers takes innings away from the top 4 who are obviously better than Fiers. Leaving both Fiers and Nelson in the rotation also means more relief innings for lesser pitchers in high leverage situations.

    The only reason to go with a 6 man rotation is if all your starters are equally good. That is almost never the case. Don't give any more innings to a lesser pitcher than you have to.

    Having 3 days off may not really be an advantage especially in baseball where you are used to playing almost every day.

    Yeah it's probably a waste to have 6 good starters because pitchers are really unlikely to get hurt.
