  1. If the bolded part is true you need to rephrase your opening post. Patrick has at least 3 players who would be exempt.
  2. Fiers never threw before he was a pro?
  3. Prime years for pitchers are usually earlier than hitters. He is on the back end of his prime. He about the same age as Gallardo. I would expect Fiers to pitch well in the minors. My hope is that he doesn't fall apart in the next couple years which is a distinct possibility. I think if somebody offers you one or two good young players Fiers is the type of guy you trade.
  4. 1) Fire the manager and bring in a guy who understands sabermetrics. 2) Work with the players so they understand sabermetrics at least a little bit so the weird lineups and other moves make some sense. 3) Build towards a 90 win team for 2016-2017. Probably means trading Gomez and starting Parra in CF for a year. Trade one or two more players to acquire younger talent. Set 2016-2017 as the goal for the next year we compete. 4) Promote someone to Scouting Director. The Things seemed to be moving in the right direction in the drafts in recent years. 5) Ask Mark A. to stop negotiating with agents while I am GM. If he hired me to run things let me do my job.
  5. I just want them to show some sort of long term plan or at least act like they have one. The Brewers have been plugging holes almost every single year instead of building up good talent. Unfortunately I think that is directed by the ownership group.
  6. I think people accept we won't be a perennial playoff team. It would be nice if the team would at some point quit plugging holes and make the choice to acquire players for the future.
  7. The system wasn't barren in 2002. Melvin took over a team with JJ Hardy and Prince Fielder already in the minors in addition to a few good MLB players. Hooray he's kept us mediocre.
  8. Apple makes overpriced luxury devices. So yeah the people who generally buy them will have more disposable income. They will be willing to drop a few dollars here and there.
  9. I think a tablet would cover 99% of home use for most people. Unless you are gaming or doing work at home I see little use for an actual computer anymore. If I am on the web or even forums like this a tablet works just fine. I would actually prefer a 10" tablet and a normal phone instead of a smart phone. That is what I would do if I didn't need the phone for work. I still love this skit from years ago. about 4:30 in.
  10. Link and a warning would have been appreciated.
  11. He could easily go to Detroit or the White Sox and DH.
  12. It's hard to suspend guys unless there is a video. In the case of McDonald I don't think he has even been charged with anything yet.
  13. Those splits are not massive. Ryan Braun for example has a .160 split in OPS for his career. Aramis Ramirez .100 Lucroy .135 Andrew McCutchen .139 Jose Abreu .146 Gincarlo Stanton .095 Mike Trout .054 reverse split If I had to guess a .100 split is typical of most hitters. If a guy isn't all that great to begin with then you can platoon him to gain whatever advantage you can from a platoon. On the other hand, 1B seems like a really bad place to have a platoon unless one of the guys is more than just a 1B. Edit: You want massive look at Scooter and his .575 career split.
  14. I do when it's Joe West.
  15. Too soon.
  16. You sound pretty shocked that fans could be disappointed that their team that was not long ago 6 games up in the division is now out of a playoff spot. Being in first place all season and then losing 16 of 19 games will dampen some spirits, preseason predictions be damned. Yeah, that stinks, but right now I'd still rather be us than the Cubs, D-Backs, Rangers, or Red Sox. I've been a Brewer Fan since the mid 70's and have seen a lot more disappointing seasons than this. In almost 40 years of being a fan, the Brewers have reached the playoffs a total of 4 times and in most years have been out of the race by July. So yes, despite being disappointed about how they have played over the last 2 weeks, I'm thrilled that they are still in the hunt for a playoff spot on September 12th. It's an optimism thread!! I would rather be a Cubs fan if they weren't, you know, the Cubs.
  17. Depends on how much influence he has on moves like Suppan, Lohse, and Garza. A meddling owner can have serious negative effects.
  18. wRC+ Davis is 125 for his career which is inflated by last year so I don't buy that completely. I think you have to have a starter and not platoon that guy unless he is really deficient against same handed pitching. Like Scooter has been. Parra's best year was 106 and he has been 91 for his career. I don't mind giving Parra more starts but no more than once a week for any outfielder unless they need the rest, like Braun has. I have not watched Davis in the OF enough but the metrics have him around average this year and for his career. I agree to the extent of lets not get carried away like he is all of a sudden going to dominate for ever but he has been playing well and I think we should ride the hot hand. And for the next week we are playing all RHP. His career splits vs RHP are: .288 / .336 / .426 / .762 which are greater than Davis vs RHP .254 / .317 / .482 / .799 And certainly better than Braun has been since the midway point of this year. I could be persuaded by most of your argument but never by "ride the hot hand."
  19. Parra's best year as a hitter was just a bit above average. His "career norms" is a little below average as a hitter. His value is almost all in his glove. He's had a hot month just like most players do at some point. Let's not get to carried away.
  20. I honestly don't care how hot he is. That will change without warning. He isn't a very good hitter ofr his career and that is what we should probably expect(or a little better) going forward. I do think he should be getting at least 2 starts a week. One in LF and the other in CF or RF. Braun isn't getting younger and with all his nagging injuries he could probably use a day off every other week. Same with Gomez. Considering defense and platoon advantage Parra is probably close to or better than Davis against RHP so I think he should get a start there every week. This way Parra gets about a start a series and our starters stay fresh. I really hope this is how they handle the OF next year provided we have the same personnel.
  21. As long as he is playing solid defense I don't see him moving until one of the guys in our system moves up and supplants him.
  22. In other words fix 1B.
  23. If we had to miss the playoffs and have a barely above .500 record I am glad we tanked in the second half instead of starting bad and having a late season surge. Hopefully this will dampen enthusiasm enough for next year we see some meaningful changes to how the Brewers operate. I was more upset with the Brewers surge at the end of last year than I am with their collapse this year. This whole season I have been waiting for the other shoe to drop. I didn't expect the shoe to be made out of cement.
  24. He as a pretty close to even number of PA against both handed pitchers. I thought he would have mostly PA against LHP and those numbers would be heavily platoon driven. Yeah his defense still stinks but it wouldn't be surprising to see him get a starting job somewhere and be about league average.(2 WAR)
  25. The Brewers have needed to take a small step back to create a balloon of talent for a couple years.
