  1. Not a Packers fan. Never have been, never will be. I know, that is like sacrilege in Wisconsin, but I don't like them.
  2. The thing we disagree on is who is a worse defender I guess.
  3. You and I just have different philosophies on baseball. I believe that even in the 8th inning, when you have a lead, it is more important to prevent runs than score them.
  4. I have heard older players say that they only had to really bear down against a couple of hitters per game so they didn't have to expend as much energy. With smaller ballparks and "live" balls, pitchers have to expend more effort per pitch than older players did in their time. At least that is how I understand it.
  5. #1 Umm, yeah I know Graffy is not here. I said if he was not hurt he would take Weeks' place. Weeks and Braun are both below average defensively. #2 Negligible? Braun is flat out terrible. Weeks is just bad. At this point I would almost take Helms at 3B over Braun if you are talking defense.
  6. I have to go with the Cardinals. Unless they drop something like 3 games back they play enough games against the teams ahead of them that all they have to do is win the head to head games to make up games in teh standings. Both the Brewers and the Cubs have to rely on other teams to win a game for us. I know there will be a playoff if we tie, but I really don't want it to come to that. It would really mess things up for the post season.
  7. I would have to guess that there are more surgeries now because it has been refined and is more successful. In the old days I would have to guess that if you got hurt badly enough you were done where now something that would have been considered a year long recovery or career threatening can be fixed with surgery and be a month long injury or year rehab respectivley.
  8. Look at the Marlin's and Tiger's pitching staffs this year and last year.
  9. If you say that you have to also say that fewer wins would be expected since Capuano and Hall played pretty poorly to go along with Sheets and Weeks getting hurt and missing time.
  10. So what were the expectations at the start of the year? I would have said 85 wins and 2nd place in th edivision before the season started. I think many people had us at less wins than that.
  11. I have to say that I am surprised that Zambrano hasn't been plunked already. As a side note, did anybody notice the glare Fielder gave Big "Z" when he spun off the mound?
  12. I think many people would consider looking at your bench and running slow showing up the other team.
  13. I was thinking the same thing. I am not sure how much difference a couple innings might make though. Maybe worth a relief appearance later on? All those arms in the BP are there for a reason. Treating him like a normal starter might be worth something also.
  14. You have totally missed the point I was trying to make. I was trying to say that depending on what stats you looked at you could form very different opinions.
  15. Don't need to reread it. I disagreed with it and didn't feel like answering. Since you ask though. I don't see the failure rate of bunting being higher than the failure rate of hitting. Hart has shown that he is good at bunting. The failure rate of hitting for Hart is approx 70%. He fails to get on base around 65% of the time. I just feel that it boils down to wether you think a team should play for only one run. You obviously don't. Also find it somewhat amusing that people would talk about 50 points of OBP or BA as being a really big deal, but say that 5% isn't.
  16. Yeah I don't like bunting with 2 strikes, unless you are Johnny "double play" Estrada. There were also times a couple years back when I would have liked to see Helms bunt instead of hitting into a DP.
  17. It is very much a situational thing. It can also be argued both ways very easily depending on what you believe. Depends how important that one run is.
  18. I would be willing to bet if Graffy is not hurt, both get taken out. I would also be willing to bet that if Dillon shows he can play 3B with any amount of credability both get taken out as well. Our lack of a 2nd true IF on the bench is hurting us right now. Weeks has had a bad couple of games lately. While he isn't a strong defender, he is still better than Braun. I agree. You actually helped me show what I wanted to. There are many different ways to look at different situations. You can bring up and use stats to support almost any decision you make. If you want a big inning then bunting in that situation would be bad. If you are playing for one run then it is a good move. I know there are also certain thresholds at which a manager should or shouldn't have a player bunt. For the most part only pitchers fall below those thresholds, but if you only look at the % of times 1 run scores, then a bunt makes sense. Like Bucky has been saying, shades of grey.
  19. Guys on 2nd and 3rd with one out gives you a better chance to score one run than guys on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Bases loaded with one out gives you less of a chance to score one run than 2nd and 3rd with one out, but still more of a chance than 1st and 2nd with no outs. Taking Braun out for defense has been explained to death. You don't agree with it by now and I would guess you never will.
  20. I guess my 97-65 prediction is out of the question now.
  21. Forgot to add wht Miller said earlier this week. "You can't pull fat."
  22. Carlos Zambrano. He is just a buthead. Ryan Klesko. I got pretty sick of him jawing at the umpires in that series and thought he should have been thrown out of the game at least once.
  23. I just believe that a manager's decision making has less impact than what the players do on the field. For every game Yost loses one way another manager would lose another way. Find me a manager who uses his closer before the late 8th or 9th inning, high leverage situations, and I will get on board. Until then I will believe that all managing has more to do with managing the clubhouse and player egos than in game decisions.
