  1. The Sexon trade was way bigger and still payin dividends. The Overbay trade was made possible by the Sexson trade.
  2. 1. Wes Helms I still feel emotionally scarred by him.
  3. As far as worrying about the rotation in 2009 and 2010, Melvin has shown that he is good at getting starting pitchers back in trades. Of our starting current rotation 3/5ths of it was aquired from trades as well as our top bulpen guys(Villanueva and Cordero). I am sure that either this offseason or next we will see Capuano and Sheets offered extentions, maybe not accepted, but offered. If both are turned down I wouldn't be surprised to see Vargas or Cappy traded along with Gwynn for AAA pitching.
  4. His hitting for a good average is negated by not taking walks though making his OBP below average.
  5. I agree with your line of thinking, but looking at what we have on our current roster, the only way Inman would have broken into the rotation by 2010 is with 2-3 significant flame outs or injuries. Without trades or injuries our rotation in 2010 is set up for:Gallardo Suppan Bush Parra Villinueva I am hoping for an extension of either Sheets or Cappy. Both seem very unlikley to me. I would also add that Melvin seems to pick up a starter in most of his trades.
  6. Inman was more than likley 2 years away from the majors in the best case scenario. In that time we will more than likley make a trade or 2 that brings back a MLB ready pitcher or some other pitcher in our organization will have passed him up. With the pitching right now we have Suppan, Bush, Villanueva, Parra, and Gallardo through the end of the 2010 seasons. In 2011 we have to decide wether or not to pick up Suppan's option and wether or not we want to offer Bush a contract. Not exactly a lineup of studs, but not terrible either. It isn't like we have room for Inman anyway. Of course a hanful of injuries isn't out of the question either. The point being that Inman would have had minimal chances to make it to the Brewers as a starting pitcher with the current players we have. We still have at least 3 years to develop more minor leaguers.
  7. I can see wanting a laptop if you are a student. Laptops are getting pretty common for students, at least that is what my brother says. Last time I bought a desktop the equilvalent laptop would have cost twice as much for the same thing and a smaller hard drive.
  8. If you want to have a really effective bulpen you should designate your 2nd best reliever as your closer. Then you can bring in your best guy in the highest leverage situations no matter what the inning. That is not how things work anymore though. Guys have certain designated innings. Wise is our 7th inning or 1st guy out of the pen. Turnbow is the 8th inning guy and Cordeo is the closer. That way they know when they are going to pitch. From what I understand, the best to run the bulpen would be to tell Cordero to start getting ready anytime after the 5th if it looks like the pitcher is getting into a jam in a close game.
  9. I prefer to believe that he was independantly wealthy.
  10. Who gets a bye the next round or do you mean there will be 2 wild cards and 2 first round byes? EDIT: I don't mean to be discouraging because I don't like the NL Central having more teams than any other division. I am just saying that from 2001-2006 there were 6 teams that made the WS as wild cards with both wild card teams making it in 2002. In 2001 the only teams with better records than the wild card teams were the division winners who finished ahead of them.
  11. The only problem I see is with 4 divisions per league you would either have to expand the playoffs or eliminate the wild card. I personally like the wild card since in my opinion it gives a very good team an oportunity to make the playoffs. If you think about it the wild card team is usually the second best team in the league. They usually have a better record than many other division leaders. Cut it back to 3 divisions per league and I would be on board.
  12. I know this is just piling on at this point, but if you want to talk about lone all-star representatives I refer you to Estrada. He was the Braves lone representative in 2004.
  13. That's the problem though. We would more than likley have to give up one of our young players and damage our chances for the future to get a player of this caliber. I don't remember who said it, but our best bet to win a WS is to make the playoffs as many years as we can. Once you are in the post season who wins is pretty much a crap shoot. If you think about it the wild card team is actually the second best team in the palyoffs in many cases. The only spot we could reasonably make an upgrade is LF and as long as Menchkins is used properly there aren't to many players that would give us much better production. I can't think of anybody in the minors right now who is blocked and an obvious candidate to get traded. All our young pitchers will get their shot in the next 2-3 years since many of our current pitchers are going to have expiring contracts or be past their arbitration years.
  14. Miller has started 6 times in 19 games this month. He has not been playing any more than normal. I am of the belief that when you have to pretty equal catchers they should split starts almost 50/50. If Estrada has been hurt Miller should be starting more. I know he is old and can't play to much, but I would think playing a little more for one month so Estrada can get healthy would benifit the team more than Estrada playing hurt. It isn't like Estrada is much better than Miller. EDIT: I don't blame Estrada for the loss yesterday. I blame everybody who picked up a bat. One run on a homer is pretty pathetic.
  15. Hall wouldn't need to hustle down the line. If he jogged he would still get there faster than Estrada at top speed.
  16. I would skip Disney. Sea World is better anyway. I guess go to Disney with one and Sea World with the other. Maybe take a trip to Sea World then drive down to Fort Myers Beach and stay there after Sea World. Take in some spring training games in the Grapefruit League.
  17. Probably Bill Hall since he would strike out instead of hitting into a DP. The worst thing that Estrada could have done was hit into a DP. I guess I should be happy he didn't hurt himself on that play. It reminds me of watching Helms come to the plate and thinking to myself, "please anything but a DP."
  18. If you really want to assure that you get to the next inning you would start with CoCo in the 9th then go to Turnbow, Wise and on down the bullpen. The problem is that no mater which way you do it you are going to have at least one more inning to cover after you score a run. Just think of the criticism if the Brewers got up by a run then had to trot out an inferior reliever and he blew the game. It actually seems like a place to bring in a long reliever since the offense was so poor you could reasonably expect to go many innings without scoring a run. I would say that if it had been a higher scoring game then Yost might have brought out CoCo since he might be able to count on his players to score a run sooner.
  19. I doubt that very much. He is well liked by some people, but I doubt that he would get much more than polite applause if he comes back to Miller Park with another team. Jenkins has been ripped by one person or another since he signed his last contract. He has played below expectations. Those expectations may have been way to high to begin with, but doesn't mean he hasn't been dissapointing.
  20. Johnny Estrada, despite his faults, is still batting like a league average catcher. I don't like him and personally nominate him for the Wes Helms award, but we could be worse off.
  21. One run. Are you kidding me? This was just disgusting by our offense tonight. Should be an interesting week for pitching substitutions. I bet Yost is careful because of the upcoming doubleheader.
  22. I don't care who they put in to pitch. The offense has to score more than one run. You just can't expect the bulpen to hold the other team down forever.
  23. I thought Shouse was going to hit Dunn. I remember that happened in 2 consecutive at bats last year.
  24. I sometimes see him playing catch with the CF in the middle of innings, but I guess that doesn't count.
  25. Yeah no kidding. It is amazing how good a manager looks when the players do what they are supposed to and how bad he looks when they don't. We currently have the best record in the NL and we havent' had a winning season for 15 years. I still believe that if the Brewers went 162-0 there would still be people upset we didn't win by enough runs or something else.
