  1. I don't see Melvin getting the opportunity to hire another manager. Getting rid of Seid in addition to Melvin seems like to much turnover for an owner to stomach in a short period of time.
  2. I wouldn't imagine anything gets done until after the signing period after the draft. I think the ax falls on Melvin first. Ron gets the boot after the season and Seid hangs out for one more year.
  3. It might just be the point in the season when we turn the corner from terrible to mediocre.
  4. I'm not knocking Schafer's defense, but I think the separation may be more than you think. Gomez is currently among the MLB leaders in most sabremetrics measuring defense. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=fld&lg=all&qual=y&type=1&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=24,d That and he's signed thru 2016 at a reasonable price considering his defense props up whatever offensive struggles he may incur. I was against the extention, admittingly, but at this point this is looking like a genius move by Melvin. First off, that is an extremely small sample to use. I am not arguing Gomez isn't a fantastic defender. He is. However you need to take at least 3 full years of defensive metrics then probably regress it a bit to get a good feel for what a player can do. That still leaves Gomez as a very good defender. You can't just ignore last year where he posted a 6.9 UZR/150. He is probably around his career 15.5UZR/150 minus a little regression. If that leaves Gomez as a 14 UZR/150 defender I would put Schafer around 12UZR/150.(honestly I would probably cut the runs by half) Not a full win on defense and probably not even half a run on defense. We need to trade somebody if we expect to get better and a guy who has a pretty solid backup and hasn't killed much of his trade value is the perfect guy to trade. Schafer + prospects + money would probably help our team more than letting Schafer sit the bench while we pay Gomez.
  5. Completely disagree. Schafer is almost as good as Gomez defensively at a fraction of the price and we will have him for longer. We probably will not even have Gomez when we get good again.
  6. Odd that you would hold onto Gomez. CF is probably the one position where we have a backup nearly as good as the starter. I think he would bring back a decent return.
  7. I wonder if Braun would ask to be traded instead of going through a rebuild. I really get the feeling he would not like a rebuild.
  8. Nice to see he is hitting. I would bring him up even though I still have reservations about him. Our 1B situation is just that bad and has been all year.
  9. Depends what we get back in trade. Hopefully we don't go the Astros route and keep trading for guys mid season no matter our record. Judging by last season we won't.
  10. I wouldn't mind taking on a large portion of our player's salaries if it meant more back in trade. I am thinking of Weeks, Lohse and Ramirez in particular where I think their salaries may make it harder to trade them or severely limit their value. edit: Forgot about Hart. I have to wonder what he would bring back in trade if you picked up most of his contract.
  11. It would seem like a good idea. The problem is that I don't get the impression that is the direction DM is going. There doesn't seem to be a plan for 2014 let alone 2015.
  12. Brewerfan.net has been slow in general for at least a few days.
  13. The Cardinals realized one player does not make the team and knew when to cut bait.
  14. I grill every Saturday at 4:00. I am pretty happy with my repertoire. I want to add some grilled desserts to it though.
  15. New Glarus is always solid in every beer they make. The only thing that really seems to matter with them is if you like the style they make. I really want to get my hands on a few bottles of their 20th anniversary ale. It's a Belgian strong ale. I am looking to make a Belgian dark strong ale in a few weeks. Once a fermenter frees up.
  16. Try Google for now.
  17. A 15 game winning streak maybe. A 30 game winning streak? No, not at all. We are just going to have to agree to disagree on this. We aren't getting anywhere. I guess I will just go back and change it to a 15 game win streak. Forgive me my little hyperbole.
  18. My top 5 has made a drastic shift over the last couple years. 1. Bedlam 2. Little Sumpin Sumpin 3. Gumballhead 4. Black Top(more in the cooler months though) 5. D-Man
  19. No, I didn't. Talent≠results. We can have a good run with a bad team.
  20. Looking forward to Monday and more grilled pizza. Pictures in Reply 100ish
  21. Wrong, they would have good results. I am not trying to make a point, just state my opinion.
  22. I would have also taken a trip up the road to Ommegang.
  23. It isn't about wining or losing. If they were losing this year without Lohse and having traded some players to acquire good young talent, I would be much happier even with a worse record. My disgust stems from the direction of the franchise. I wouldn't feel any better about the franchise if the team went on a 30-game15-game winning streak. Edit for hyperbole.
