  1. Lohse really had a good chance to push us to 85 wins if everything went right.
  2. Yeah Loshe was definitely the missing piece this year.
  3. The Brewers have gotten old. The discussion seemed to have moved beyond just talking about next year. Considering Braun's history of nagging injuries he could start to decline at any time.
  4. Ryan Braun isn't young anymore either.
  5. A prospect takes most of the scouting out of the equation. After they play a couple years in MiLB they have played against a similar level of competition for a while. Amateurs could be playing against either really good or bad players.
  6. I think you should have gone with minutes or yours instead of times per day on the internet use questions. I only use the internet once per day at home to find stuff for my personal use but may spend hours doing so. Also, I think you should have added Industrial unless you would consider that business management/Sales.
  7. That money doesn't just go to the MLB payroll.
  8. I think we will be better next year by doing nothing. I don't think we are a playoff team next year unless we get some good talent back in trade before the start of next year. I think we are still the same low to 80's win team next year we were this year.
  9. The brewers have to operate within a reasonable payroll range. I don't think throwing away another $11m would have helped this team. This is the bed Melvin and Mark A decided to make for themselves in 2011. Now we all have to live with it.
  10. I am not having it both ways. Both of those teams underperformed compared to their talent. Our talent was overestimated for the beginning of 2012 and they underperformed compared to their talent while the 2011 team overperformed. The truth was somewhere in the middle.
  11. They may have won more in 2011 with better alternatives but they were probably at a point where they would beging to see diminishing returns. That's not how it works. Teams outplay or underplay their talent level all the time. 96 is overestimating the talent level of the 2011 team. Overestimating your talent is what leads to years like the 2012 and 2013 Brewers.
  12. You assume, I believe incorrectly, that the 2011 team had 96 win talent.
  13. No kidding. Bottom line, we may not need to make many trades, but we need to do something. I think Gomez may be our best bet to turn things quickly. Trade him.
  14. They don't "Do nothing." They are just all so similar it makes no real difference.
  15. It was a hypothetical which I didnt really think was that hard to figure out. In any case, if the Cards offered a trade like that, would you take it if you were Milwaukee? It would give the Brewers a frontline pitcher with 5 more years of control. As someone put it earlier, would Segura + #5 Starter > Shelby Miller + Replacement Shortstop? I don't know the answer to that. So a strawman.
  16. How do you get better unless you are willing to trade guys? It seems dumb to me just to stand pat because you can't get equal value. You need to get the best deal that will help your club even if you don't get equal value. So would you trade Segura for someone like Shelby Miller? Yes, I know that would never happen, but if you could deal a SS with crazy high value for a pitcher with crazy high value, would you? I don't know my own answer to this, but it would be one way to get young frontline pitching. Who said anything about trading Segura?
  17. I get the point you are trying to make but IMO if we trade Gomez, yes we need to get value back equal to Gomez. Gomez is one of our most valuable potential trading chips. I would never concede losing a trade to part with these guys just to fill a hole somewhere else that may constitute a net improvement if we acquire a pitcher over our #5 who is a greater help than Gomez over Schafer. Gomez is a CF with pluses across the board -- power, average, speed, and defense. These guys are so valuable, particularly one leading MLB in WAR and one with a great contract situation. I put Gomez with Braun right now where you don't move him unless you get blown away. We can always re-visit a deal for him in a year or two if the price isn't right. I don't see an immediate need to make room for Schafer in the outfield, as I think he's going to need to show a little more than this to get me to buy into the hype. He's going to need to do better than a .619 OPS to cut it as a starter at any OF position. How do you get better unless you are willing to trade guys? It seems dumb to me just to stand pat because you can't get equal value. You need to get the best deal that will help your club even if you don't get equal value.
  18. Lagunitas. Last time I had Little Sumpin Sumpin was at Cooper's Tavern in Madison. They have an excellent beer selection.
  19. We don't need to get value back equal to Gomez. We only need to get a guy back who is better than our worst starting pitcher by more than we are stepping back starting Schafer instead of Gomez. That isn't a huge step back while there is a lot of room for improvement in the starting pitching.
  20. That is a better line than scooter's MiLB line so, no, I don't think that is attainable for him.
  21. Hart was a good hitter all through the minors. An all star at every level. He was always .800+OPS except his first year. Hart was just overshadowed by Weeks, Fielder and Hardy.
  22. Unless he develops some power they will just throw it down the pipe and say " here it is, hit it." The worst that can happen is a single.
  23. Most of the courses around me give members rounds on other courses as part of the membership.
  24. This is what TheCrew missed from my post. My second point was that Morris is not going to get the PAs once Hart comes back, so he will either rot on the bench (hurt his development) or be sent down and burn an option year unnecessarily. As was pointed out be several people now, the guy is in AAA, his option years do not matter at this point. If he is in AAA in 2015 we should have let him loose or have him playing full time.
