  1. So a .220 BA is MUCH better? Sorry, that isn't going to cut it in my eyes. That tells you how horrible he has been when you consider that to be much better! So what are you disagreeing with me about, that Weeks has been slumping? You need to look beyond batting average.
  2. You do realize Weeks has been much better the last 2 weeks right? It ended a week ago but he still gets playing time and a spot higher in the order than Weeks and Lucroy.
  3. Two years of watching him isn't long enough to make an informed decision?
  4. Not really. It was pretty apparent he was washed up last year and wasn't really all that good a couple years ago.
  5. Overbay was never an option. He signed with the Yankees within hours of being cut by the Red Sox. He did not want to sign with us when he was a free agent and I wouldn't blame him since at the time we had Gamel. Ishikawa was not an option either.
  6. K-Rod has also shown his success is more than likely far behind him.
  7. Are they retained because they are good managers or do they get to keep their job because the team is winning? I believe they keep their job because the team is winning. The difference between a winning and losing manager is where they get hired. I am not saying managers don't make a difference. They do. They are largely kept not based on how good they are but on how good the team that hired them is.
  8. What stats are you using to say Lucroy is worse than Weeks? Lucroy has a higher average (.216 to .181), higher sluggling (.333 to .276), higher OPS (.598 to .578) and has more HR (3 to 2) and more RBI (16 to 9) in about 15 less at bats. Weeks has him in OBP (.302 to .264) but that's about it. Weeks has also struck out 42 times compared to Lucroys 14. Neither has been ripping it up lately either, as Lucroy is 5-30 in May and Weeks is 5-33, neither with an extra base hit. They've both been pretty bad, but I don't see how you can say Lucroy is worse at the plate the Weeks. Pretty tough to write Gennett off without even a single major league at bat. If you're saying he can't hit .180 with little to no power, I'd find that extremely unlikely. I use wOBA to start with. You also have to keep in mind 1 point of OBP is worth about 1.5-1.8 points of SLG. That is why Weeks is doing better offensively than Lucroy. BA is pretty useless unless used with another stat so I usually skip over that one when making any determination about how well a player is hitting. I only use it to determine a player's plate discipling and there are even better stats to use for that. Scooter has an empty batting average. Lots of singles without walks or extra base hits. Without good speed that probably does not translate well to the majors.
  9. Actually Lucroy is hitting worse than Weeks. Madonado is probably a better option for catcher than Scooter is at 2B. Of course if still believe Scooter will hit close to what he is now at the MLB level nothing is going to change your opinion at this point.
  10. Awesome a race quote ... I love those ... Lets see. 1. Weeks makes $10 million a year ... Lucroy is making $750k 2. Weeks hit a whopping .230 last year and is following it up with a .183 3. Lucroy hit .320 last year and yes is off to a putrid start but .235 > .183 4. Lucroy has a fielding % of 1.000 weeks is .972. Lucroy is a better defender at a position that is more difficult. 5. Yuni had a fielding % of .975 playing 2B last year ... Weeks is a standing at .972. Maybe Yuni is a better fielder than Weeks? I could go on and on. But to claim race is simply ridiculous ... You know nothing JoePepsi None of those stats are really useful. BA needs to be at least paired up with OBP. Fielding percentage is sort of arbitrary. Yes that is still a very very small sample. Basically random. If he goes 2-4 against Aroyyo that would jump his BA by 25 points.
  11. There is no correlation outside of the HR spike. Bautista had a decent OBP before his HR spike and an even better OBP after the spike. Yuni's spike in HR looks like a fluke.
  12. What about OBP?
  13. We have an option on Gallardo for 2015. I would be shocked if that doesn't get picked up.
  14. Are there? Hart was an all-star at every level of the minors. I am not sure we have anybody of his caliber.
  15. Yeah no kidding. He said all the right things when Braun was accused of PED use. Seems like a class act to me.
  16. I liked the moderator posting a response after the thread was locked.
  17. Macha would be good for a good team but is a cancer on a bad team. RR seems like he is a good manager for a team that is losing quite a bit. There are options on the roster to Yuni and Gonzalez at 1B now. No real reason to start either there. At the very least platoon Yuni at 1B with Lalli.
  18. I agree with the initial philosophy of drafting hitting to make a quicker impact to get more fans in the seats but disagree with the direction over the last few years.
  19. So we win because of our players but we lose because of the manager. That argument doesn't jive for me. Either you think the manager has little influence over a game and therefore players should get 95% of the credit/blame or you think the manager has a big influence and should get most of the credit/blame. If you think the manager is the key to a team's success, you better give Ron some credit because we have won a lot, even with a team that was left for dead last year. If you think it's all about the players, don't blame Ron when we lose, blame the players for not doing their job. Listen, I get it, when a manager makes a decision and it doesn't work, people get upset and say the other decision was the right one. That's easy because we can just assume decision B would have worked, but really that could just as easily failed too. So I understand why managers get all the heat each game, it's easy to blame them. I think if we win a World Series people would still dislike our manager. In the areas he has control over he makes some poor decisions. Even when a decision works it doesn't mean it was right. When a decision fails doesn't mean it was wrong.
  20. Lots of people go to college for 6 years.
  21. Who cares? He is a hitting coach. Fire him when they can't hit. Until then keep him.
