  1. I hate to say it but in the scenario laid out, Peralta is probably the odd man out. I would say Rogers but Peralta has an option.
  2. TV is the largest driving force behind the gap in revenue between teams. TV wise baseball and football are drastically different. The NFL is basically a few national TV contracts while baseball is 30ish different local contracts. Baseball has 10 times as many games on all days of the week which makes a large national contract practically impossible. Take away the local TV contracts and revenues get much much closer.
  3. You said he came on strong in the second half. His second half stats actually were worse than the first half. Did the league adjust to him? He has an okay bat with a decent OBP but is a guy I would be looking to replace. There is as much to suggest he will hit worse next year as there is to suggest he could hit better. The sample size is to small to say much for sure. How well does the xBABIP model work for a guy like Aoki? Does he hit the ball on the ground as hard as most guys?
  4. That really doesn't work either. Just moves the problem to a divisional level instead of team. They already essentially do this. 33% of TV revenues are split (equally among all teams). Baseball has a very good revenue sharing program. All of these giant contracts are for players that are at or past their prime, thanks to the free agency rules. As already mentioned, the top teams have to pay more money for each win because they are bidding against each other for free agents. The end of the steroid era seems to have helped also, a contract for ages 30-35 isn't what it was 10 years ago. Nothing has changed for the Brewers. They never have signed a mega free agent deal and they will not in the future. I'll start worrying if the Cardinals sign a $100+ million/year TV deal. I think 34% of net local revenue.(based on this) So it could be much much less depending on a teams expenses/debt. So you are only knocking the gap down by a third at best.
  5. I don't believe that's fair at all. He played in 151 games and had 520 at bats, shouldn't we go off of what he did over the entire season? I think so. He was a very impressive lead off hitter that made the opposing defense look silly a lot. He really came on strong in the second half of the season as well, so perhaps he can offer us more; especially since 2012 was his first season playing baseball outside of Japan. Makes sense, actually, the more I think about it. The comment was was in response to "a consistent hitter lacks in slump spells." Besides Pre All Star .301 .369 .450 .819 Post All Star .278 .344 .419 .763
  6. If their offense was a lot better this trade would make some sense. It really looks like they jumped the gun by at least a year or two.
  7. That really doesn't work either. Just moves the problem to a divisional level instead of team.
  8. A slightly above .500 team may be good enough to win the AL Central.
  9. Unfortunately there is also this part. I don't think he will fall off a cliff yet but I am not sure we should expect the same level of play next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Gamel out in RF for a large part of the season.
  10. Here is an article about taxes by city. Not a big difference.
  11. I wish this had happened a year earlier and we could have just promoted Chryst.
  12. 100 points of OPS isn't much of a split. I think you would see a similar split in OPS for all but the best starting pitchers and relievers.
  13. Delete your cookies.
  14. Looking beyond just 2012 Upton and Gomez don't look like the same level of hitter at all. Upton has a career .336 OBP. Gomez has one season with and OBP over .300.
  15. Kind of. Most of the problem was with the length and age of the player.
  16. The city of Green Lake is by Big Green Lake. There is also a Little Green Lake within about 5ish miles.
  17. Big Green is crazy expensive. Famous people own houses there.
  18. Still sort of unclear who the source is. I just wanted to know if it was attributed to somebody working for the Yankees because there has been some back and forth between the Yankees and Brewers the last few years. Only a couple incidents.
  19. If you are buying for strictly sports games I think you would want a PS3. If you want shooters then I would go with the Xbox. Other than that either one would be good. Seeing as how you have been out of games for a while I would recommend the PS3. Personally I would prefer to keep my Xbox way ahead of the PS3. I just like it better. If you buy a Xbox buy one with more than 4GB of memory. BluRay isn't a big draw for me as I would prefer to have a dedicated BluRay player to using the PS3. BluRay prices have come way down in the last couple years.
  20. Guys resigning with their old teams usually sign earlier. Especially Yankees resigning with the Yankees.
  21. Link please. I would like to know the source of the quote saying that the Brewers will triple their local TV revenue. With all the back and forth over the last couple years I want to know who the information was attributed to.
  22. I was hoping you were right but was afraid Spring training was the date most free agents were concerned with. Doesn't really pay to sign a contract early. Whomever signs first is likely to miss out on some money. Maybe most will sign by mid December. Still a possibility.
  23. Why? •November 4th - Free agents can sign contracts with teams other than their former clubs •November 9th - Players must accept or reject qualifying offers •November 7th - 9th - GM Meetings thats why Still think we are going to see more quick signings?
  24. Whoops, good catch. Thanks for correcting me. $34M AAV would be pretty bonkers! So is 7@$25m per for a 32 year old with a bad injury history.
  25. Why does shopping Escobar make them a joke? They would probably be better off with a decent prospect instead of Escobar.
