  1. A year or two is too long to have that money sitting on the sidelines. Bitcoin or anything volatile? No. But there's plenty of "safe" stocks that will yield 2-3% in dividends, and if the stocks go up even a little you'll get a total return of 5-7%. Even if you're not comfortable with an individual stock, get an ETF that maximizes dividends. I basically keep my emergency funds in a money market that regularly get 2-3% for no risk. Unlike CDs, I can take out the money as needed. Check out: https://fundsus.dws.com/us/en-us/products/money-market-funds.html I'm not seeing a money market account on there that is 2-3%. I have been unable to find anything over 0.75%. Obviously if I can make 2-3% with no risk that would be ideal.
  2. Our house is finally selling today. I should get a large amount of cash from the deal and will hopefully need that again in a year or two as another down payment. I so want to throw some of it into the market or Bitcoin, but I know better. It is going to suck to watch housing increase in value while I make a .01% return in a savings account.
  3. I'm with turbo on this one. Maybe because we're from the same generation? Just turn on the TV and click to 31..and the Brewers! Also my eclectic taste in sports, so the niche channels offered get utilized often. This reminded me of how my parents used to call me from Milwaukee when I lived in Chicago and tell me to turn on 31 because a local highschool game was on. I would have to explain that the channel was local to Milwaukee only, and even if it was a national channel the numbers were different in different areas. The extreme example of the generational thing.
  4. If you stick with just season 1 of True Detective you'll love it. Started this last night, and I'm absolutely hooked after 1.5 episodes. Is it truly best to just stop after Season 1? Are there any redeeming qualities of 2 or 3? I'll go against the grain and say that I thought Seasons 2 and 3 of True Detective were both pretty good. As good as the Wire, no. As good as Season 1 True Detective, no. I think these seasons got a bad wrap just because of how high the bar was set. TD episodes 4-8 were the best TV I've ever watched, and that includes recent viewings of The Wire, Sopranos, and Better Call Saul (& some BB refreshing). If TD Season 1 never came out I feel like Season 2 and 3 would be pretty highly regarded.
  5. You really don't see what this changes? With him signing an extension to stay in Milwaukee for 6 more years? Who was the last star that was on Giannis level that stayed and actually signed the SuperMax? LeBron didn't, Kawhi, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis.... Duncan, no? Not only did we land a generational talent in the draft, but we also landed the rare superstar who is loyal to his team and not swayed by the bright lights on NY or LA. The odds on that are amazingly small. While the Bucks will never be the Packers in the state of WI, this has to be one of the most unique and rare events that we will see in, I don't know, our lifetimes? Am I exaggerating here- in the moment I don't think so.
  6. I've got a potentially difficult and contentious zoom meeting at 1pm and I am so giddy I don't even care. My situation is funny because I am now in LA and work for a company out of Chicago.
  7. I'm running around fist pumping while on a work Zoom Meeting.
  8. I just can't make sense of this post so hopefully you can help me understand. You are saying their depth sucked last year so we should upgrade the starting lineup to make the bench even worse? I feel like the general consensus is that the Bucks had a deep team that allowed them to do well during the regular season, so they should sacrifice there for the starting 5- which helps come playoff time.
  9. He'll be back...
  10. This is correct. The benches get shorter in the playoffs. And as people have noted, you don't have to fill all 15 of your roster slots. Has anyone let Bud know this?
  11. One of the Twitter replies to Hardicourt is that Burnes' total must be the most points a Brewers pitcher has received in 25 years. That seemed crazy to me, so I looked up some years that I figured we would have contending pitchers. 2004: Sheets 1 pt (with a 2.70 ERA/237 IP) 2008: Sabathia 9 pts 2011: Yo 5 pts 2012: Nothing 2018: Hader 4 pts 2019: Corbin 10 pts, Williams 3 I don't know why that is so shocking to me. I feel like we had a number of top of the rotation starters over the years garnered a lot of national attention, but I guess not.
  12. Living in Chicago, and now LA, I have been able to watch the Brewers for free the last 2 years because I get a free MLB account through T-Mo. It's been awesome.
  13. Growing up I would watch the Bond Marathons each year on cable. I loved Dr. No and You Only Live Twice, but looking back I think The Untouchables was his best film. Ultimately he was in a lot of the films I watched on repeat as a kid and I wish he had done more late in his career.
  14. I haven't been following the Packers that closely these past couple years, so correct me if I am wrong, but didn't the team come out and say last year that they didn't want to add a WR during the season because they wouldn't be able to learn the system in time to make an impact?
  15. This year’s Brewers seemed like the most “anti-swag” team I’ve ever seen in the modern era. I’m concerned they are being built in Counsell’s image. And if they continue building the pitching staff, that could actually work. But man oh man what a boring, uninspiring team to watch. This year’s Braves remind me a little of the 2018-2019 Brewers. Loose, energetic, a mix of colorful characters and swag. Ken Macha would’ve felt right at home with the 2020 Brew Crew. How are you supposed to have SWAG when you are flirting with the Mendoza Line? Conversely, Yelich seems to have shown some bravado when he has been crushing it ("Relax Roxane", or "no one needs help facing you" to Darvish).
  16. Here's why I'm still nervous (and I hope someone can tell me why I'm wrong): Last year the 49ers had a very successful game plan to not only win, but to completely dominate GB. Essentially, they ran it down our throats at will. Did the Packers improve from last season? Absolutely! Even without any WRs, this might be the best offense in the league. That being said, one of the most effective ways to neutralize a prolific offense is to control time of possession by running the ball. If we have not improved at stopping the run our other improvements on the offensive end can be limited.
  17. For what its worth, my wife would be disappointed if Nottingham is not back next year.
  18. This is going to be a wild offseason for free agency. I hope the Brewers maintained a position of flexibility where they can pounce and take advantage of some real value this off season like they did last year with Moose and Grandal.
  19. Their Oline has been stellar to start the year - guessing it sure helped to have no crowds for their 1st two road games. Vikes' stadium and the SuperDome are not great spots for road O-lines...although key injuries to Viking and Saint Dlinemen undoubtedly helped them out, too. The constant misdirection must help too. DLs must expend a lot of waisted effort throughout the game.
  20. I'd be curious what those numbers look like if you eliminate the two bloodbaths against Detroit and St. Louis. By August 31st, the Brewers had only scored 135 runs, third last in the NL. If you plug the numbers, the team average across the NL was 160.3 runs scored (St. Louis not factored in because they played so few games). If you take away the 19 runs against Detroit and 18 against St. Louis this month and substitute 3.5 runs for each of those two games, they're sitting on 206 runs scored while the NL average is 264.9 runs scored. Even with those two games (236 runs scored as of September 24) we're still looking at 28 runs below the NL average. By comparison, Pittsburgh has scored 202 runs this season. So take away the two Detroit and St. Louis games and our offense is right on par with Pittsburgh. If you are going to go down the path where you take away our two best games when comparing us with the rest of the league, at the very least, shouldn't you also take away outliers from the other teams too to be consistent? Just to be clear, I don't condone this type of analysis regardless. EDIT: I went ahead and took out Pitt's best two offensive games and replaced them with 3.5 runs. That drops them to 184 runs on the year. They have also played 1 more game than us so far. So by the parameters of your analysis we have 206 runs scored to Pitt's 184, with Pitt playing one extra game.
  21. What other at bats and accomplishments should we remove to make the situation even more alarming? How about his draft position or all of 2019?
  22. Why can't his motion be replicated? Seems that's what makes him so effective. He's got what appears to be a clean delivery and the same delivery for the change and the FB. It sounds like its not his motion but rather his grip and wrist snap on release that other pitchers can't replicate.
  23. These are the hot takes I come to Brewerfan.net for!
  24. A lot of players with Ray's skillset develop later in their careers. I think it was Doug Melvin who I heard first say that and he started targeting those types (Podsednick, Brady Clark, Carlos Gomez). There is still time for Ray to figure it out and be a successful MLB player.
  25. I think you are right. But they are not striking against their employers. Can anyone answer who they are striking against? I am guessing the criminal justice system? They are striking against participating in distracting the general population from the problems they perceive in our society. I'm trying to avoid making a political argument one way or the other, but that is my take. Everyone is always up in arms worried that our future is headed towards 1984 style oppression of our rights. In reality, I think Brave New World is much more relevant- we are so overloaded with content and given enough distractions that its almost impossible to keep up and process everything. Personally, I've been pushing myself so hard at my 60+ hr a week job and working through relocating my family to the west coast that I didn't even know what was happening in Racine until the Buck's didn't play.
