  1. I think we have to acknowledge and accept that in order for the Milwaukee Brewers to make the playoffs a lot of things have to go right (or they need a lot of luck depending on how you look at those types of things). In order to win a WS, they will need to not only have things go their way during the regular season, but they also need to get hot at the right time and will need a top team or two to be slumping. Beyond assembling a group of talent in the top third of your league, this is the reality for a lot of teams in baseball to varying degrees and it will stay that way for the foreseeable future. While arguing over the minutia of a coach's decision, a GM's trade, or the day to day batting order is fun, it is ultimately just noise when you back up and look at a season holistically.

  3. When you consider that he is being asked to secure a lot of multi inning saves, it makes sense that he is looking to be as efficient as possible with his pitches. I think its a reasonable to assume that Hader would have better HR numbers if Knebel wasn't out the whole year, or the rest of the bullpen was better in general.

  5. Gio was more or less a league average pitcher in 2018. This year he has pitched a total of 50 innings and was released by one team. Guys like that don't typically have teams banging in their door for multi-year deals. I think he's definitely someone we could look to bring back for 2020 though.
  6. Can you imagine going into work one day and being completely unable to perform? Baseball is crazy.
  7. I don't know about Davies, but why would we trade away 2 of our top players that we could realistically build the team around along with Woody? I don't want us to become another Marlins of the NL. Because imo, Selling this offseason on Yelich & Hader is maximizing prospect return and with said prospects, a better, younger team after a one year reset(to develop). Selling Hader is an easy decision: protect from injury/regression and as good as he is, he’s still only a reliever. Yelich is the tougher decision, but the prospects received would, if the right prospects, transform this team to a super young contender for many years moving forward, quickly. Another option is to sell Hader & Davies for the 3-5 quality mlb ready prospects, Keep Yelich, and plug in a couple prospects to fill holes cheaply, with more money to spend in other area’s. Remember this: next year all mlb teams get 9 million extra in the new National Fox deal. Then another 8-10 million in 2021 with the new turner/espn national deal. There isn't even a team that has 2 60 grade prospects outside of the Dodgers. It just isn't realistic to expect that there are teams out there who can compete to get Yelich at the actual value back that you need to have this make sense.
  8. I think we maintain a payroll around $120-$130 for the rest of the Yellich years (our window). Given that Braun's contract is coming off the books at the end of next year, you could conceivably make a splash in FA this offseason in addition to signing Moose for a 3 year deal. Especially when you look at the infusion of cost controlled starters we experienced this year in Woodruff, Hiura, most of the bullpen, and maybe Grisham- I actually think Stearns has built a playoff contender with payroll clarity and flexibility. Making your move this offseason allows for a 3 year window with Yellich instead of 2. So if I'm Stearns: 1. Make a bit FA signing at a position of need (SS/1B/C/3B/SP) 2. Take a chance on 1/2 midlevel FA SPs to round out the rotation and roll again with quantity over top end quality (unless your big FA move ends up being at SP) 3. Resign Moose to a multi year deal (unless your big FA move ends up being at 3B)
  9. That's my biggest concern. The Brewers failed on their rotation strategy in 2019, in my opinion and I don't have any faith they'll change their culture this off-season. The worst part of the 2018 post-season is it seemed to encourage them that you didn't need a rotation to win...just some guys throwing an inning or two and some better than average bats with a stud to carry you (Yelich). :Shrugs: My bold prediction for 2020: If all 5 opening day rotation members and most of the backup plans spend time on the DL, their rotation strategy will fail again.
  10. I think you are glossing over the third possible explanation. "Stuff" in the context of pitchers can mean different things to different people. To me, and I suspect to Stearns as well, "stuff" means talent/potential, more specifically velocity, spin rate, break, and potentially how well a batter picks up pitches due to delivery. Stuff, however, does not always equate to results, which is often times why you want a guy with good stuff but a lack of experience working in AAA.
  11. I agree. Isn't it more likely that their recent record and performance has something to do with playing a more difficult schedule, injuries to key pitchers, and being on the road?
  12. Do you actually believe this will be the starters?
  13. Believe me that annoys me to only being able to embed three quotes...how do you get around that?? I don't know how to do it. If you're going three quotes deep you're doing something wrong. Just delete what isn't relevant, make your point, then move on.
  14. I think this is another case of the Brewers FO being creative at the deadline. We can't just look at the individuals players to evaluate the trades- we have to factor in their role on this team in September. These players will hopefully keep us in the playoff picture through August, and then come September we now have a bunch of 2-3 inning high 90s out-getters to throw at the opposing team in whatever order matches up best. We are going quantity over quality as that is were Stearns sees potential value right now. Let your quality starters get healthy and align through the next 2 months and hope you make it into the show. Its the best we could do this year and doesn't mortgage 2020, 2021, or 2022.
  15. What move would you make that would guarantee wins this year since that is what you want from the Brewers' front office?
  16. Do you have a source on that because it directly contradicts all available quotes I could find. It almost seems like you just made up an alternate reality. Attanasio: "All the chips are all in now. We’ll find the money at mid-season if we need to." https://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2019/02/20/Franchises/Brewers.aspx
  17. Was Bando bad because Bando was bad? Or, because Selig was uber-cheap at the time and constrained him? I honestly don’t know. Probably a little of Column A and Column B. No, Bando was bad because Bando was BAD. Selig wasn't cheap. It wasn't until they turned the team over completely that they got extremely cheap. But Bando was absolutely terrible. If you went by how he handled the Molitor situation alone he was a disgrace, but there were soooo many more examples. And they went from a team that paid for elite talent to one that didn't when Wendy and Bando were running the team. You spelled ruining wrong.
  18. Excellent point. If we are giving up nothing, its most likely to get a bad pitcher or one who has been bad recently. Given that, I'd prefer we get a known quantity- someone hopefully our coaches have watched tape from the last few starts and feel like they can work with.
  19. I can't believe how far I had to scroll to see Ricky Bones be mentioned.
  20. In. To put it simply, more things went bad in the first half than went good. If everything regresses to the mean, this team improves. We are .5 games back and our opening day rotation was Chacin (bad), Peralta (bad), Woodruff (good), Burnes (bad), and Davies (good). Nelson, Kenebel, Jeffress, Gurra, and Gonzalez all either under performed and/or were injured. What team weathers 75% of their top pitching staff under performing? On offense, Cain, Arcia, and Shaw have under performed. You could argue that Grandal and Moustakas will come back down to earth, but they are on prove it years so who knows. Has Yelich exceeded expectations? I think this is just his baseline now through the next 2 seasons.
  21. Just won 12 in a row, but if we happen to need to get 2 in a row later this series it’s impossible? Got it! The Brewers are good, the Dodgers are good. Enjoy the show I'll take it 1 step further and say, who would have guessed we would win by chasing Kershaw early and lose when Miley throws a gem? Its playoff baseball and anyone who thinks they know what will happen next or what needs to happen outside of "just win 3 more games" hasn't been paying attention. Monday can't come soon enough!
  22. iPhone or Android? I agree, I've never had a case for any Android phone in my life, but if I had an iPhone I would get one based on what has happened to my fiancé over the years.
  23. IIRC, that is a year old feature on Android and I don't think iOS has caught up yet.
