  1. I was thinking this too, but with 3/4 starts left he's at 108 IP. Last year he hit 140, so I'd think the Brewers are looking at 160 as the cutoff? If they want to keep him a starter through the early stages of the playoffs, I think they will.
  2. I've had Intel and CAT pretty much forever and am afraid to sell at this point.
  3. He's 20 and squaring up high quality breaking balls at the highest level of the game. That's nuts. But let's also not pretend that the game will slow down for him and his eye will get better. That's a good thing. Can't "walk off the island" is an old idea and doesn't apply to him anyway.
  4. I'm probably in the minority here, but I don't mind Murphy's approach here. Give the guys enough rope to hang themselves. I'm not a lip reader, but he clearly mouthed to Devin from the dugout "you got this." Devin wanted to stay in. When he took him out he said "good job" and not in a sarcastic way. I think he trusts his vets. Devin, and of course Megill, need to recalibrate to their current abilities. But I don't mind the trust your guys approach, even when they fail. Bonus points for getting thrown out after. I think this team is going to have some good conversations in the coming days.
  5. But how will he explain this to his son?
  6. I'm late to this thread, but my 2 cents (worth less than that as I've had a few cocktails tonight): I think we are in the beginning stages of the singularity, meaning we will see technological, and by extent, societal disruption similar to the industrial revolution, only exponentially dramatic. The next generation of LLMs, will have capabilities similar to masters degree subject mater experts, still needing guidance/context to solve problems. Once humanoid robots come online (25/26) that could change quickly with the amount of data they will absorb. I'll stop there, so I don't sound nuts, but I think we will see major economic disruption within the next 2-6 years. I have 2 kids-- a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I try to make peace with what their future will be like and how to prepare them if my experience is completely irrelevant. As a baseline, I met me wife in a bar from friends literally pushing me to muster up the courage to go talk to a total smoke show...that is already an antiquated way to find a partner compared to swiping on your phone. What happens when all the entertainment, personalities, and companionship you need are curated directly to you? Anyway, I'll hold onto my NVIDIA, INTEL, and CAT and then lets hold onto our butts. That's the end of my TED talk.
  7. Just to be clear, you view this team (injuries and all) as a legit World Series contender if Burnes was still on the team vs the current team makeup? That alone makes the difference? This isn't a gotcha type question, just trying to isolate the issues this team faces and understand your position.
  8. How quickly sentiment changes.
  9. I don't know that it will happen, but it wouldn't surprise me at all to see Weimer put it together in a year or two similar to Gomez or Podsednik.
  10. I'd think Turang and Ortiz are the middle infielders and they look at fill 3B with a free agent or prospect.
  11. If nothing else, this gives the Brewers another chance to get into a fight with Pham.
  12. With respect to Wiemer, I'll bring this up and die on this hill: “I’m just a big believer in players that are athletic and players with speed, they sometimes develop a little bit later because they’re so fast, so aggressive, that they bring the game back to them a little bit and it’s a learning experience.” -Doug Melvin, 2014
  13. I can't disagree with this, but also, they have had, what 20 relievers throw so far this year? And 16 starters (grain of salt with the opener). Basically, everyone is hurt. I wonder if this is the rebound from the COVID shortened year for a team who throws a lot of young/developing arms.
  14. Why is Turang not getting the same defensive recognition from Fangraphs as from pretty much every other defensive metric (as well as the eye test)?
  15. Wow, good call.
  16. I feel like you see multiples come out all the time, but typically with an injury situation. In this case, Hook wanted to talk about approach to the next batter and Weeks wanted to address the defensive scheme. It was allowed. It didn't work. I assume it has happened before.
  17. Who could have seen this coming?!
  18. I could see them targeting a SP who is very effective the first 2 times through the order but struggles with the third. Assuming everyone gets healthy at the right time, they have plenty of hard throwers to round out the last half of game out of the bullpen.
  19. Being a diabetic sounds really rough. I'm sorry you guys have to go through all that. That being said, I'm not sure I follow the logic that a condition that causes things to heal slower wouldn't have an impact on a MLB player trying to make it through 162 games. I think a lot of times "spot" injuries, like a strain, are more likely to happen with tired muscles. If he recovers slower, I could easily see that leading to more injuries. I'm not a doctor though, just my 2 cents. I agree that you can't 100% blame it on anything though.
  20. Cubs, your pullpen...woof
  21. Dude, this team had Robin Yount and the early years of Gary Sheffield.
  22. I don't think MU has ever had an issue spending money on their Mens BB program at the same level as the other big programs.
  23. I don't see a scenario where Chourio goes to AAA. From top to bottom (Mark A to Pat M) they have said over and over again its his time to learn at the MLB level. I don't know that I agree or disagree, but the organization has been very clear in their stance. They have also shown that, when healthy, Mitchell is going to play. The obvious move is to play the kids over relatively old Perkins, but that is tough given how he has been playing and that this franchise operated on speedy outfielders figuring it out later under Doug Melvin. I really wish they could get Yelich to buy into 1b and DH. His defense isn't bad, but we are beyond lucky to have 5 elite upside defensive MLB CFs-- Perkins, Frelick, Chourio, Michell, Wiemer.
  24. This is random. I've been mitigating family health issues that have resulted in me flying Delta-- California to Florida somewhat regularly. Is it weird that coming back my tradition is now to catch some sleep by watching Band of Brothers? While subject matter is uncomfortable, its somehow comfortable....like an old man falling asleep to a war movie. I wonder what the other passengers think.
