  1. A 20 something will throwup their previously consumed $8 Goose Island Pints on Waveland Avenue at some point during the year. He will most likely be wearing a pink polo shirt with the collar popped and his brahs will have to carry him home. He will repeat this incident the following weekend weather the Cubs are in town or not.
  2. As long as they don't loose the pink shirt wearing frat boys who are there to meet girls, any stadium will do for those fans.
  3. I really like RE5, but it is more action based than the past ones. As I have gotten deeper into the game though, it has taken on more of a classic RE feel. It is no where near as good as RE4, which is my favorite shooter of all time, but it is still a very good game. The chick sucks though, she waists all your ammo...I just give her the cattle prod and a handgun, then basically play the game through by myself.
  4. I got catastrophe insurance for $46 a month while I was unemployed. Basically I had to pay everything out of pocket up to $2k...so it covered me for a hospital stay or surgery. I figured it was a good deal since I hadn't been to a doctor in 3 years. Of course, then I went and had an accident a week later where I needed a doctor visit and a tetanus shot, so that sucked.
  5. As someone who was unemployed for 5 months this winter, here is my advise: Accept the job with the 25% cut, but keep looking for work. You will make more money this way than you would on unemployment and you should be getting benefits. I would have done this in a heart beat for my old company for 5 months while I was waiting on all the resumes I had sent out. I was getting the max on unemployment as well, but was making quite a bit before that and had lots of bills (I was loosing like $1200 a month while on unemployment). If I could have kept working for less money, but more than unemployment, I would have done it. Also, it will look better for job interviews that you are still working since you skills will be sharper and it will make you look more desirable.
  6. Just wanted to chime in about the 60 yrd dash people were talking about before. It was not Hardy that won it, it was Hart. And Weeks was second. Hart won because once he gets going, his long stride allows him to move very fast. That being said, I still like Hardy in the 2 hole until Hart can prove that he can layoff bad pitches. Then I wouldn't be opposed to a switch because I think both are capable of providing Fielder with protection, and I like Harts speed ahead of Braun and Fielder. No way Weeks should move out of the leadoff spot though.
  7. The fact of the matter is that FSN is woefully behind other teams broadcasts. We shouldn't have to stand for it as consumers, but since Wendy signed that awful deal, there is nothing Mark can do about it now. They will upgrade when they want to, and we will just have to sit by and wait.
  8. I did not mean to imply that people who need to balance their checkbooks are out of line, but I still think they should do it on their own time. I realise not everyone can take the same approach as me in terms of being roughly balancing my books in my head throughout the week and I supose it is irresponsible to ask people to do what I do. That being said, it works for me. I just know that when I am doing anything and there is a line of people behind me, I do everything in my power to move as quickly and efficiently as possible. I also hold the door and say thank you when people do so for me, always return my cart to the corral no matter how far away or cold it is, and am the last to stand up to get on a plane...so I am not some kind of efficiency freak who is always running around...I just think it is a matter of respect to the people behind me. Now if you will excuse me, I have to go withdraw money from the ATM right next to the Metra ticket counter to pay for my monthly pass as Metra is stuck in the dark ages and won't take any plastic.
  9. Well, valpo stole my thunder. I have dial-up, so couple that with everything valpo listed and it would require several minutes to check my balance online as opposed to flipping my register open. No way that scenerio compares to one where if I were to write a check in line at the store. I guess I just really don't understand why people have to have a balanced checkbook then. I check my balance probably once a week online. The rest of the week, you could ask me at any moment what my balance is and I could tell you within $50 easily. Are people that close to overwithdrawing that they need to be more accurate than that? I was unemployed for 5 months this winter, but it never got that bad. I understand that with dialup it might be more difficult, but I have to assume that you go online at least once a day to check your email or this site. If you were to check your balance then, it couldn't take more than 1 or 2 minutes. Compair that with the 5 people behind you in line who have to wait an extra 30 seconds while you write a check, balance you checkbook, and wait for the cashear to do all their check stuff..this seems like a matter of common courtesy to me. Even if it did take a long time for me to check my balance online, I would still do it to avoid holding people up at the register just because I know how much it anoys me. I guess if you go through life on a slower schedual, maybe you don't realise how other people feel about it...thats why I never get mad at people or say anything, I just think to myself how inconsiderate they are. Anyway, just trying to give my two cents on the issue as someone who is constantly strapped for time...I can't believe that comes off as me having a "sense of entitlement" over my own time that I need to get over, but so be it. Agree to disagree on this.
  10. Get over your sense of entitlement. Just because you think it is correct does not mean it is. If its the correct way then how come stores have not made it their policy to take checks. When I use cash, that is faster than waiting for you to swipe your card, enter your pin, decide whether you want money back and then if the amount on the screen is correct or not. Oh and I have to wait for your silly card to be authorized too! We should just all use cash. I can't stand it when you people using your debit cards hold me up when all I want to do is give the clerk my $20 and go to my sanctuary. I understand what you are trying to say theavrock, but I am usually faster at using a check card than I am with cash, especially at places like Walgreen's where you don't have to sign. After they ring me up, I thank them, tell them I don't need the receipt, and am usually half way out the door by the time I would be fumbling for cash and waiting for the extreamly slow counting highschool employee to give me my change (this is a problem at most stores around me, but OT). And to me, it is not a sense of entitlement to expect people to be considerate of me when I am of them. On the rare occasion I do pay with cash, I will grab my stuff and move out of the way for the next person to start their process while I am still putting the money back into my money clip. I never see other people do this...I am in a hurry all the time durring the week and their is nothing I can do about it...It isn't a sense of entitlement to expect people who are going to hold me up to try to be considerate.
  11. Yeah, I'm capable, but a big pain to look it up when I can grab my register and flip it open in a sec. Let me get this straight, you hold other people up at the store because it is inconvenient for you to check your balance online when you get home? Try putting yourself in the shoes of the people behind you in line. I don't think the check card is our friend at all. In fact, the check (debit) card and it's sister, the credit card, play a huge role in what happened to our economy. They have made people feel comfortable spending without the immediate consequences. Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone who uses a card. Whteher subconscious or not, it's a lot easier to scan a card than to shell out actual currency or enter an amount in a checkbook and see your balance change. A bit OT I know, but my point is that if 100% of the population used a check card 100% of the time, it wouldn't be all good. I see what you are saying, but I am the exactly opposite. When I have a lot of cash on me, I burn right through it at a much faster rate than if I am putting it on a CC or Check card. Don't know why....it just "burns a hole in my pocket" I guess. It is simply someone doing something differently than someone else. No, my different way is faster and you should do it that way too so as to not inconvenience all the other people doing it the correct way.
  12. It may not be that people have poor time management. It may be that they spend 40 to 60 hours a week at work and in traffic and running errands and they don't like shopping and they rather get home and relax, enjoy time with the family, etc. than wait in line any longer than is necessary. I'm not just in a hurry for myself, but also to show courtesy for others who may be waiting for me. Exactly. People who take their time and pay with checks anger me to no end. I work in a large building in downtown Chicago all day, have to jog most of the time to catch the train, and have maybe 1 hr of free time at home a day, most of which is used to eat dinner. I can understand if people are willing to slow their lives down because they are stuck in their ways or afraid of new technologies, but it shouldn't slow my life down as well. That right there is extreamly inconsiderate. You might say its just 15 seconds, but its more like 30, and when it happens several times every day it really adds up. And before anyone says anything about me being a typical Illinois person, I grew up in the Grafton/Port Washington area and moved down here for work, so this is my life now and believe me...in this economy there is nothing I can do about it. Please, please, please get out of my way or try to hurry up so that I can get home. Once out of eachothers way, we can all move at whatever pace we want. I've used my check card once in the last five years. If I used it more often, I would need to carry my register with me anyhow so that wouldn't change. If you are on this website you are more than capable of checking your balance online.
  13. Aziz Ansari got his start on Human Giant 24, a sketch commedy show that was pee your pants funny. The early reviews from test screanings for Parks and Recreation were pretty dismal, but NBC played it off as normal for a show that is still coming togeather. The main complaint was the lack of a strong male lead to set up a relationship dynamic...in other words too many Kevins and not enough Jims. We will see.
  14. They should be upset that they drew a team that was a 2 or 3 seed in the second round a week and a half before the selection went down. If James is even a shade of himself (especially on the defensive end) they become a different team entirely.
  15. About 5 years ago, my roommate in college and I went out drinking at 7am on St. Patty's Day and he left an irish drinking song cd on loop in our dorm room. When we got back that night, the girl that lived next to us wasn't too happy since she had been trying to study and eventually to sleep since it was a weekday or something. I guess she really let us have it...she came in the next morning to apologize for yelling so much, but neither me or my roommate remembered she had even been in our room the night before. Sometimes blackouts are a good thing.
  16. Keep in mind Melvin has gone on record as saying that position players fetch more of a return in the offseason than at the trade dealine. If he is going to trade JJ or Escobar, something will go down next offseason most likely (and I think it will be JJ).
  17. Personally, I think its fairly pathetic that he has to engage someone like that. Then to call him a hatefull person...Tom represents the newspaper and he should be above that kind of bickering period. If he wants to do that he should post on the ESPN board. It makes absolutly no difference if somone was being an "ass," Tom should ignore him just as his bosses have repeatedly told him to do. I enjoy his blog because it is the easiest way to get information, but honestly, I sometimes think I know more about the Brewers than he does, and I don't have any access and a full time job. If I could spend 40+ hours a week following the Brewers I think I could do his job better than him and I think most of the people here could as well.
  18. And thanks again for the advise. The interview went great. My messed up face and hands was a great icebreaker, and they offered me the job at the end of the interview. I start Monday and end my 5 long months of unemployment! To those of you still looking, keep trying. I had all but given up until this perfect fit fell in my lap. It will happen eventually.
  19. I too have been very tough on James, but that is a bad way to go out. As someone who has broken their 5th metatarsal, I can say I can't envision him coming back, especially with the stress he would put on it from the way he plays. Very tough loss, but MU still played well. The officiating and Price were too much to overcome. Especially they way the calls seemed to go against MU in spurts that somehow coincided with the 2 UConn runs. This is about as good of a loss as you can get. Buzz and the Warriors did a great job tonight. Another effort like that may get them past Louisville.
  20. With the state of the economy, there will be plenty of people bidding to do the work on craigslist. Work with them on it to make sure they don't cut corners and so you can get exactly what you want.
  21. Went to the Dr today. She said to keep using neosporn on my road rash, ice my jaw and take Advil. No concussion, although she said I may have had one originally and should have gone to the ER. I also got a tetanus shot. I should be all healed up by next week, with no noticeable marks/scars a week or two later. Still have the job interview tomorrow and am looking forward to it. My face looks passable now that the fat lip is gone. I will probably put a band aid over the really bad part on my cheek though. Still speaking a little slow but mostly because of my jaw and the pain I am still in. I am sure they will look past this if I can still give passable answers as they said I was very articulate in the first interview. Thanks again to everyone for the suggestions.
  22. What line of work are you in valpocrewsader? I don't just think its engineers, I can't think of any line of work where this wouldn't be considered great attendance. And I have a Dr apt for tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully I will be feeling better by then and they will say everything is fine.
  23. I just talked to the secretary and told her what happened. She said they have had people who have been in accidents before come in for interviews and it wont effect the interview or the hiring process at all, but if I was still having trouble speaking on Wednesday I should call to reschedule and it wouldn't be a big deal. As I am re reading what I just typed though, I am realizing that something is a bit off since I am repeating myself and spelling very poorly. I am going to make an appointment to see a doctor right away. Thanks for all the advise guys.
  24. Thanks for the responses everyone. I do know that they are very interested in me and consider myself to be incredibly lucky to have gotten this close to getting the job in this economy. I think I will call just to give them a heads up that talking is somewhat difficult for me at this point and leave it up to them. I don't want to say this, but I have noticed (or been told) that I am not making complete sense right now when it comes to technical issues, so I think that could effect me in an interview. I think just another day or two could make a dramatic difference though, but I also understand if they want to make their decision right away. I think that is how I plan to put it to them...basically say I am still excited and more than willing to come in and do the interview, but it may take a little longer than normal as I am moving and talking a little slower than usual. I think a day or two could make a big difference, but I understand if they want to do it right away, so to let me know if they would like to reschedule and I would make myself available Thursday, Friday, or Monday at all times with Friday or Monday probably being ideal just to get me back to normal. How does that sound?
  25. This Wednesday I have a follow up interview for what is essentially my dream job. I have been out of work for 4 months now (Civil Engineering) and this is my first serious lead. During my first interview they told me I was the only person they were interviewing for the opening at my level (out of 200 resumes and 40 phone interviews), but they were also looking at a structural engineer and they wouldn't be able to hire two people. So last Friday they called to schedule another interview and we set it for Wed...I promptly went out and had a bike accident on Saturday. Long story short, I have a fat lip, bad bruise on my chin, and road rash on my right cheek to the point of swelling around my eye. My left hand is also pretty messed up in terms of scrapes and swelling, but I am not too concerned about this. I still haven't eaten anything besides a few milk shakes, as my entire jaw hurts from the chin impact. I honestly feel like I might have a slight concussion. I know I will be fine by the end of the week and my face will probably be healed by next Monday. If I was working right now, and had an important project due, I would have gone into work today. However, I really don't want to get dressed up in a suit, shave around the scab on my chin, and go downtown for this interview in front of all these guys I have met once before (one of them never before). I plan to call this afternoon and explain my situation and ask to move the interview back to Friday or even Monday. Some friends and family are very against this though, as they think it will show weakness or that I will be calling in sick a lot (even though I have taken 2 sick days in the last 3 years). I think there are some extenuating circumstances though and they wouldn't hold this against me. Its not just the self concious aspect of having a big scrape on my face and fat lip, but also that it is really hard to talk right now with my jaw. I would love to hear some opinions of the board as I know some of you guys do a lot of hiring. I think I could tell a white lie and say I have to get a check up for my wrist on Wed so that is why I want to move it back. Thoughts?
