  1. I am pulling for Team USA in this game but Yo looked good out there. Braun with the walk for his last batter, a total of 49 pitches for Yo.
  2. Unless it's just a negotiating strategy, the Cardinals seem like they are really insistent on not bringing Lohse back. It reenforces my belief that not only was he a bit of a fluke the last two years there but that perhaps they know something that other teams do not. I would stay far, far away if I was DM.
  3. To echo Brewmaster a bit.... definitely utilize the subway in DC. Even if you are not used to or comfortable on subways it is very well marked and you will likely see a ton of people heading to the game. (Not trying to be condescending, just not sure how much experience in DC you have.) Taxis are outrageously priced in DC and you'll save money by taking the subway without giving up a ton of time taking city traffic into consideration. There is not a ton to do around the ballpark, except for one road leading directly to the stadium which has a fenced in outdoor area with bands and bars if that is your thing.
  4. It is coming down in sheets right now in New Berlin with the temperature to match. I am glad that I don't have to drive anywhere tonight, just taking out the dog was not fun.
  5. I agree with this. I see virtually no scenario where Murphy and Crosby are here at this time next year let alone seasons down the road.
  6. That 96 Brewer team was better than you remember. They scored a whopping 894 runs. That's more than the 82 Brewers who scored 891. Unfortunately the pitching was as bad as the hitting was good. You are right. That team wasn't terrible by 1993-2004 Brewers standards and came close to .500 at least. The Vaughn for Newfield, Villone, and Florie trade probably kept them from being even more successful offensively.
  7. I watched it earlier and don't have the link handy, but I really enjoyed watching Scrap Iron go after Terry Bevington during a Brewers-White Sox game back in the mid 90's. RR is fine, but after the Macha years I really started wishing that we had a manager with a little fire like Garner.
  8. I remember watching Potts pitch for us when I was a kid... on some very bad Brewers teams. Glad to hear that he's expected to recover from this.
  9. The question is getting into the parking lot though, since I think you need tickets to get a parking pass. I could be wrong. But yeah, I'll probably wait until closer to Opening Day to actually buy tickets. The price people are asking right now for even Terrace Reserved are ridiculous. Good question on the parking. IIRC they have some policy in place about this, but I will call the Brewers today and find out. The other option would be to get to the area early and park on Bluemound before taking the shuttle in.
  10. Thanks guys. As I get older I am starting to feel the same way about going. My wife however has never been, so she is really wanting to experience everything Opening Day related firsthand. I will see what I can find and appreciate the advice.
  11. I know that Carp hits better against lefties, but you have to wonder where this leaves Overbay with BOS.
  12. This might already be being discussed, but I am wondering if anyone knows any bars that are offering ticket packages for Opening Day this year. I am not a season ticket holder and didn't win the lottery, so am hoping that there is another option besides StubHub. Any ideas?
  13. I am guessing that tickets for these two games will go on sale the same day as the rest of the single game tickets go on sale (this coming Saturday). I seem to remember that being the case in years past.
  14. Taking aside the concerns for the team this year, I feel pretty bad about Gamel and his situation. As far as I can tell, there isn't anything that a guy can do to prevent an injury like this from happening.
  15. This is a tough debate. I idolized both Yount and Molitor (as I am sure most boys growing up in SE Wisconsin did in the 80's) but if I were to wager I'd say that Braun will likely eclipse Yount in nearly all of the all-time offensive categories in Brewers franchise history. Braun is on pace to put up some ridiculous numbers, and his long contract ensures that he will be in a Brewers uniform for years to come.
  16. Unfortunately, it appears that baseball lost another Hall of Famer today with the passing of Stan Musial at the age of 92. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/stan-musial-the-man-dies-st-louis-cardinals-at-92-01913 RIP to both him and Earl Weaver. Stan the Man rates in the top five all-time ballplayers for me. I am too young to have seen him play, but he seems like a class act as a human being and the stats speak for themselves.
  17. I wanted to get one of each hat the Crew has ever worn on the field (not the camo hats or anything like that, but the official hats) and got the 1970's blue with the yellow block M and the classic blue with the M and B logo hat. They will compliment my current logo, 90's industrial look, and late 90's single M very well.
  18. And now Stan Musial on the same day? RIP to both of these guys.
  19. I think they're trying to get some competitiveness to areas (like Italy) which are starting to embrace baseball, but don't stand a chance against some of the other teams out there. MLB is using the WBC as a marketing tool... it's pretty exciting for the budding Italian players to play against MLB superstars, but it's kind of nice if the score isn't 100-0. Not that a Vinny Rottino will do that much to offset a Ryan Braun, but every little bit helps. Yeah, I get that and agree with you that it is definitely what MLB is trying to do with the WBC. I guess it just seems a bit artificial that some countries essentially get to handicap their rosters with guys that have never even been to that country. Oh well, I am sure that we (the US) are not going to be scrambling to fill our roster with quality players. Just an obeservation on the tournament.
  20. Not to hijack this thread into a general discussion of the WBC, but does anyone else find some of the eligiblity rules for this tournament a bit odd? Basing a team off of (in some cases) the ethnicity of grandparents like the Italian team does seems a bit of a stretch.
  21. And Scott Boras gets his client a great deal..... once again. Despite what has been a less successful offseason for him than others in recent years, it seems he can always count on Washington.
  22. Yeah this is also a top item on my Christmas list.... I hope that the wife comes thru but hitting proceed to checkout on that Amazon link is pretty enticing on my own.
  23. In this morning's Washington Post it says that the Nats will determine who plays which corner outfield spot between Harper and Werth in spring training. Kind of an interesting approach. Both will be starters but neither will have a set position until exhibition games begin in a few months. (I don't have time for a link, sitting here in DC reading a hard-copy of the newspaper)
  24. I'll second the kudos to Nyjer for a great 2011 and a good attitude in 2012. I also will miss his personality... perhaps it was the wrong fit in 2012 but in 2011 his personality coupled with that team was very memorable. And, as has been said already, I will never forget Game 5 against Arizona. It is my favorite baseball memory of all time and will forever be a huge part of this franchise. I hope that in years to come after he eventually retires that we see T Plush out in full force at Brewers 2011 reunions.
