  1. "Ever since John Barnes lost his vote in the Brewer Walk Of Fame, the whole thing has been a joke!" Who is John Barnes?
  2. I thought Vinny Rottino was from Racine?
  3. whoaaaaaaaaa, whoa. Brewers win, Brewers win..... out this evening. whoa.
  4. So to get back to this thread for a moment... I am looking for a comprehensive Baseball reading list online, but haven't had much success. Beyond individual suggestions, has anyone seen anything that would be sort of a master reading list?
  5. I saw Luis Vizcaino wandering around Brookfield Square a few years back. He was with his parents (I think they were his parents), and looking a bit lost.
  6. Guy must have just watched the Parent Trap with those rocks. Wow.
  7. Captain Crunch in all its varieties Cracklin Oat Bran Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cocoa Crispies Special K
  8. friends birthday equals great Monday night........ Glad for the drunk thread. Time for a vodka.
  9. Johnstone's book was pretty hilarious, and I would rank it with Ron Luciano's "The Umpire Strikes Back" as two of the more humorous baseball books out there.
  10. I just finished "Boys of Summer" by Roger Kahn. Like most of his books it was excellent. Besides that, I love the "Iowa Baseball Confederacy" by W.P. Kinsella. Its a fiction read, but really gets into the heart of the game. Besides that, the Library of America published a book a few years back called "Baseball: A Literary Anthology" which includes various types of baseball related writings.
  11. Whatever they do with the nachos you buy in the helmets on the concourse level at the stadium works just fine for me. Now I'm hungry.
  12. I try and mix it up between "sports bars" and quieter places where you can really concentrate on the game. Kelly's or Wong's are both good for the first type, a place Fresche's Italian restraunt downtown is a bit of a good quiet destination.
  13. So I was thinking about an idea related to this thread last night (admittedly after quite a few adult beverages). I have dated a good handful of women, and they have enjoyed/put up with my baseball-filled summers to varying degrees. And yet, I haven't found one that truly loved or understood the game. Am I aiming too high here? For those of us who are eligible bachelors and interested in meeting women who truly appreciate and share our mutual obsession with the Brewers and baseball, does anyone have any good advice to offer? The more I think about it, the more I think its a must for a girlfriend of mine to really enjoy the thing I enjoy most. Any thougths?
  14. What is Gagne's entrance music? I haven't gotten to a game yet this season.
  15. If I remember correctly from the first WBC a few years ago, ARod was asked to play for the Dominican Republic, but ended up playing for the US because he said he wanted to honor his citizenship. I thought that was a pretty classy move on his part, as he had even lived in the Dominican for awhile growing up. That being said, it was pretty humorous to see Mike Piazza playing for the Italian national team. I mean, seems a bit weird for a guy from Pennsylvania.
  16. Perhaps to summarize its some weird mix of the "lightning strike" ala Joe Black meets appreciating the merits of the '87 Brewers? What else would be better to do together in the summer than go to Miller Park? I just broke up with my gf though, so I could probably use more advice then I am giving.
  17. Agreed on Field of Dreams. For some reason The Natural is also very moving to me for some reason when Roy finally hits the walk-off HR. Did anyone mention Legends of the Fall?
  18. Has anyone heard anything on the status of Carpenter's rehab? I could see him making a fairly big difference if the Cards are still in the race after the break. I definitely like Milwaukee for the divisioin, but hate counting out any team managed by Tony LaRussa.
  19. Seeing Prince has got to make Tony Clark feel old. Probably knew him in the clubhouse while Price was in middle school.
  20. If anyone would look at Strawberry (He actually works for the Mets now and not the Yankees) and not want to hear his opinion because he's an ex-convict drug user (which is not a reason why someone still wouldn't know about a team that he was a major part of for several seasons), then you would not want to hear Gooden for all of the same reasons. That being said, Torre seems like the kind of manager whose ability to relate to certain players and not relate to others is based upon performance. Sheffield's comments on race seem trite, petty, and below someone of his longevity in the game. Not sure on the deal with Lofton, but I am guessing that Reggie Jackson, Bob Watson, Derek Jeter, Tim Raines, and Willie Randolph- all men who Torre has worked closely with before Sheffield was anywhere new New York, would object to the idea that he treats blacks differently then whites in the clubhouse.
  21. I am glad that a number of posters here did not take the knee-jerk reaction and just attack Barry for this. First off, I think its a bit prudish to really care one way or the other that he swears when asked about his slump or his team's recent play. His not talking to the media is perhaps not reminiscant of Hank Aaron but is akin to Ted Williams or Joe DiMaggio, guys who were far less inclined to have the reputations they currently do if they played in today's supercharged media driven atmosphere surrounding professional sports. He is not being nominated for sainthood, he's a ballplayer. Leave him alone.
  22. I am not really sure on the return policy for group tickets, but for some reason, I doubt that lots get turned in right before a game. How do you know this Dad?
  23. Does anyone have a media guide handy and could comment on what the largest crowd in Miller Park history is? Should be a fun weekend. I have tickets for Sunday.
  24. Huge double-play. Nice job keeping the ball on the ground.
  25. This IGT seems to be more concerned about the Cubs score then the Brewers score. We need to worry about ourselves here and let the Cubs do what they do. As long as we win, nothing changes and they can talk all they want to in Chicago.
