  1. As meaningless as it is, I wonder what the Brewers median run differential is. It seems as if there are a lot of games this year where they lost by 10 whee they kind of stopped trying. I know there are some games that went the other way where they won by 10. I'm not saying they are really as good as the Dodgers...but that run differential may not be a greatest way to measure this team's quality.
  2. I was talking about Zavalos. Someone was saying he wasn't anything special because he was only in A+. I wish his k/9 was a little higher, but his bb/9 is great. He is an interesting prospect at this point. I haven't seen him pitch, so I don't know what to expect with his ceiling.

  5. How do you know he isn't going to be a late bloomer? I'm going to wait and find out before I make that judgement.
  6. I'm not saying he is going to turn into Corey Kluber...but Corey Kluber didn't really crack into the majors until his age 27 season. This was his first year getting more than 25 big league starts. He also was in A+ his age 23 season for 2/3rds of his season. He also was traded around this time to Cleveland for Jake Westbrook. He may have never even developed into the pitcher he was without the trade. We will never know. Like I said before, although there are a lot of parallels between these two players, my point is players develop at different rates. Some are fast developers and some never pan out. If Zavalos is indeed a late bloomer and turns into a Kluber or maybe even half a Kluber...the Brewers win the trade. If he doesn't, the Brewers didn't really lose it. It is way too early to draw conclusions on who "won".
  7. The one thing that you have to make sure of is the phone must be compatible with the network you are trying to connect to. AT&T phones use GSM and Verizon/US Cellular phones use CDMA. Even then they may still not be compatible. This is why I tend to buy unlocked phones with stock Android on them. They tend to be compatible with the most carriers.
  8. Sounds good. I will see how it goes and if I have to buy a more expensive router/extender combination, I will worry about that in the future. I went relatively cheap on both the router and extender. The whole setup cost roughly $100. We typically don't use that much bandwidth, so being connected is the most important part. I've done speed tests on my phone, but our internet is sometimes shoddy, so I would like to check the performance of just the LAN. Is there an easy way to check local performance of the network without having to use an app like speedtest.net that connects to an outside server? I could use my laptop to check connection if it wasn't an android app.
  9. I got a quick question on the Netgear wifi extender I just set up. My goal is to get coverage on my back porch/part of the back yard and the router is in the front of the house. I did research and wanted to make sure I got one that had Fastlane on it and also had AC capabilities that matched my router. I want to connect to the extension to the router with 5ghz and broadcast from the extension in 2.4ghz because I believe that signal will travel the furthest. I have it set up right now and everything seems to work great. I have the extension SSID matching the name of my original 2.4ghz SSID, which I have been told is not a good idea. Although they have the same SSID, they are broadcasting on different channels. I live far enough from neighbors, so interference is not an issue. My idea is once it loses connection to one is will eventually flip over to the other. I would prefer to not have to enter a password for all my devices again. I also want to make sure I don't confuse my wife with adding another SSID. This way she won't even notice I did anything. Can anyone tell me why they think this could be a bad idea?
  10. There is a rotting mouse in the wall of one of our closets. The smell is terrible every time we open the door. Hoping the smell goes away soon.
  11. Sorry if this idea was already said. I just skimmed the full thread for the first time this morning and didn't see anything about it. I am not a huge fan of the 3 batter minimum rule. I think I would like it better if they tweaked it a little bit and made it like a hockey goalie change...if you come in and face less than 3 minimum batters, the next pitcher has to come in without any warmups on the game mound. Goalies do just fine cold. Pitchers get the added benefit of the bullpen to at least be loose.
  12. I have no idea if this is necessary the right thread to post this in. Regardless, I'm going to do it anyway because Dumb and Dumber is a "must-see" movie that I'm sure everyone in this thread has seen a number of times. I will preface this by saying my wife and I are not movie watchers (me more so than her), but I found out she hasn't ever seen it, so we are actually watching it now. Maybe I am just stuck in my ways, but I just don't see this type of humor in current movies. Am I wrong on this? I don't really watch new movies, so I could just be wrong.
  13. That makes a ton of sense. I'm happy for him if he got a well-deserved raise...but as a fan, I'm not really that excited. We still have the same person pulling the same strings.
  14. https://web.archive.org/web/20190111170159/https://www.mlb.com/brewers/team/front-office Here is the website of the org chart prior to today's promotion. What exactly is the change? There was nobody that had title. Looks like it is really just a title change but will still assume the same responsibilities. For example, my job description is technically just structural engineer...but I also do computer programming, manage people, and many other things that aren't really a part of my technical job description.
  15. I actually thought about becoming a teacher before I decided not to. For me, it was all the crap teachers have to put up with and the politics that steered me away from it. Having summers off would be a huge perk though. I also prefer 1 on 1 training... which is actually what I get to do at my current job. Regarding summers with teachers, I understand it is unpaid time off...but when it comes to taxes, all that matters is your yearly earnings. You have time built in to find a supplemental job...I know it probably won't compensate at the same rate. Also, I'm guessing you still get health insurance paid during the summer? Not exactly sure how that works. If was a teacher, I would work a different job in the summer...maybe teach a fun summer school class or something related to golf. Once I got older, I would travel at this time or buy a golf pass and view it as vacation from my yearly salary. In Wisconsin all public employees salaries are posted online. I will admit to creeping on my high school teachers in Janesville to see what they were complaining about with pay. To my amazement...the salaries were more than I would have expected. I thought with summers being off, it would be lower. I also looked at teachers with little experience and saw it was more than I expected too. Janesville might be different than other districts. I also was shocked to see what principals make. I was always confused why principals were needed when I was in school. Seemed they just did babysitting more than teaching.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Sorry it took so long to reply. It is helpful to hear what I should do. I will say that my wife has seen every type of specialist, nutritionist, doctor, etc. She even saw an alternative medicine doctor. The doctor was a doctor...but she was a chiropractic. I was thinking it would turn out like the Seinfeld episode. Anyway, nobody has been able to diagnose her with anything. The good news is we know she does not have Celiac's. That disease is something that I would not mess with. For the time being, I will continue to be supportive of her and will continue to urge her to try gluten again in a supportive way. My theory is that her body went into shock when she got back from the peace corps after being in Ukraine for 2 years. I'm guessing the wheat that they have there is very different from the kind we have here and her body would attack it. It amazes me how much unhealthy processed food we have in this country. Anyway, now that she has been back in the country for 5 years, I'm thinking it is time for her to try gluten again.
  17. At my work, we earn sick days at the rate of 5 sick days a year and we have a 20 sick day cap. At this point, I have capped out. It is interesting to hear teachers get so much more sick time than I do. I also get compensated at a higher salary than a typical teacher...so I can see it being a hidden benefit for early retirement payout. You could retire from teaching early and pick up a new passion profession later in life while still earning the benefits of a teacher. Now to my situation... My wife claims to be extremely gluten intolerant. She says whenever she eats gluten...even in trace amounts, she wakes up tired and fatigued. It usually is a few days after she eats it. Lately, I've been putting some regular whole grain pancake mix in with her GF stuff and she has not complained at all about it. A few days ago I surprisingly got her to try a sip of my beer...and the next morning she complained about eating gluten because she woke up tired. It also coincided with a night I slept like crap. I have no idea how to handle this situation. I feel I can't tell her what I've been doing. Luckily she doesn't understand why I like sports so much...so I like my chances of her not finding this post.
  18. I am also just getting caught up on this thread. I work in Sauk but like in Madison near Greenway Station. I was on the Beltline just not of Old Sauk when it flooded. I ended up turning around illegally at one of those U turn places and went north. I then struggled to get back home. I almost stalled car twice and it almost felt like it rolled over. Luckily I was able to get close enough to home to park on a hill and walk back. Here is a video of Mazo that one of our work's drone pilot took. I'm not sure how to embed this on the app.
  19. Because when I got home today from work I didn't feel like grilling brats, my wife made noodles. She fed a noodle to her sister's pet cockatiel that we are birdsitting and it choked to death on it. That cockatiel loved noodles. What a helpless feeling...I should have just made the brats.
  20. I know I'm a little late to the party, but I did just look up the 2018 woba/2018 xwoba/2017 xwoba for those 3 pitchers. Chatwood 0.345/0.369/0.331 Lester 0.294/0.352/0.308 Hendricks 0.303/0.341/0.306 All of them have a much higher expected than what they are currently performing at. They also have a lower expected last year than this year's. I do question how xwoba is calculated...very black box. I also think defense could play a role. Hard to quantify. Past performance does not always predict future performance. All I know is I would look to trade all 3 pitchers in fantasy. Those numbers do scare me. Luckily I enforce a rule of having no Cubs or Cardinals on my team. The guy to buy on is Jon Gray.
  21. When it comes to mid-inning pitching changes, my opinion is that they shouldn't need to enforce a minimum batter faced requirement. Rather it should be like a hockey line change...a new pitcher comes in with no warm ups and it should seem continuous. In hockey when a goalie gets pulled, the backup comes in cold. In football, when a new QB comes in (especially after an injury), they are also cold. There isn't any warmup time with basketball either...players just check-in. Why can't baseball do something similar?
  22. As someone that has deGrom on my fantasy team, I am not happy he hurt himself. However, I am still a firm believer in pitchers hitting. I don't think you can solely blame hitting for why he got hurt. It could have been something he did while pitching, then batting pushed it over the top...more like a fatigue type injury. Now it would be another story if it was his glove arm.
  23. Sorry for the double post. Here is an example with Lindor who is on my team. Here also is one with Ian Kennedy who won't ever be on my team. Both these cases are ones where they will likely have reality checks. Lindor should break out and Kennedy will start getting shelled. The Brewers already started this trend. Baseball Savant just doiesnt have that nice user interface...but those searches are powerful. Lindor https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPT=&hfAB=&hfBBT=&hfPR=&hfZ=&stadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfGT=R%7C&hfC=&hfSea=2018%7C&hfSit=&player_type=batter&hfOuts=&opponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=&game_date_lt=&team=CLE&position=&hfRO=&home_road=&hfFlag=&metric_1=&hfInn=&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&group_by=name&sort_col=wobadiff&player_event_sort=h_launch_speed&sort_order=desc&min_abs=0#results Kennedy https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/statcast_search?hfPT=&hfAB=&hfBBT=&hfPR=&hfZ=&stadium=&hfBBL=&hfNewZones=&hfGT=R%7C&hfC=&hfSea=2018%7C&hfSit=&player_type=pitcher&hfOuts=&opponent=&pitcher_throws=&batter_stands=&hfSA=&game_date_gt=&game_date_lt=&team=KC&position=&hfRO=&home_road=&hfFlag=&metric_1=&hfInn=&min_pitches=0&min_results=0&group_by=name&sort_col=wobadiff&player_event_sort=h_launch_speed&sort_order=desc&min_abs=0#results I give up on the links working on my phone. Hope they work. The edits just aren't working.
  24. In fantasy baseball, for pitchers I like using ERA, FIP, xFIP, BABIP, and xwOBA-wOBA. I used to use Siera...but have stopped with the advent of statcast. I also like trying to find pitchers with high strikeout percentages and low walk percentages. For batters, I like using BABIP, wOBA, xwOBA-wOBA, and k and bb percentages. FIP - basically looks at predicting ERA by with items pitchers can control. K, BB, HRs. xFIP - same thing but uses flyball rates rather than straight home runs. BABIP - tries to calculate luck. 300 is generally average. wOBA - a more advanced OPS weighted correctly to runs from an event happening. .330 is average (essentially replacement level). xwOBA - expected wOBA calculated off Statcast data. Subtracting these 2 can show if a player is doing what is expected of over/under performing. I use Fangraphs for most this stuff. It summarizes everything right there for you. I recommend going in more depth than my simplified summary with the glossary as others have said. Anything with an x in it implies statcast and you need to use a site like Baseball Savant to get data from it. You need to do statcast searches to get the good data. Directly typing the player name on the website does not show xwOBA. I'd be happy to explain more if you have specific questions. I'm sure there are people that understand it more than I on this site.
  25. I agree with this 100%. If you are at a place you enjoy the people, the environment and you feel like you are treated fairly...don't use money as the only reason look for another job. Without getting political, my opinion is the only exception is if you aren't being paid enough to live a lifestyle where you can be happy. Being able to save for retirement and still being able to afford to do most things I want to do are part of my definition of happy. Yours may be different. I feel that's why they are different opinions on this topic of looking for a new job.
