  1. Yes he has, but Bush had a 7 ERA going at one point with a 5 ERA from 2007 on his belt. I was open to anything at that point. Luckily Dave Bush figured out how to pitch again. Although guys with 86 mph fastballs tend to go on streaks like that because they need pin point command or they are worthless. We saw the same thing with Capuano. When he was on, he was ok, but when he had his B stuff, our team usually lost.
  2. We do, and I agree with saving his innings, but the conservatives out there have to remember that we need to go for it this year. Parra could just as easily get hurt in 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 by saving his innings so if it comes down to an extra start or two, I'm ok with going with Manny because we need to take advantage of his health while we have it. I don't see Manny being an injury free pitcher throughout his career. That said, I'd still try to keep him around 170 innings to mitigate risk, but if it comes down to us needing him against the Cubs in the last series of the year or in the playoffs, we need to pitch him and take that chance.
  3. Objective or not, Weaver has had a better career than Bush with a better track record so I wasn't shooting the moon with that opinion. So was I overweighing his 5 ERA last year?
  4. I was also in favor of Weaver getting a shot, but how can I blame myself? Despite Bush's recent success, the fact still remains that he cost us a lot of games in the first 2 months of the season because he gave up several innings of 3 runs or more. And who's to say he won't revert back to that because he's done it time and time again throughout his career? It's ok to ride Dave Bush now that he's hot, but what do we do when he starts reverting back to what he's been prone to? Bush's career numbers show that he's a 4.5 ERA pitcher because he can go on hot stretches like this, but why can't we get some consistency out of the guy? I feel a lot better having him as our #5 starter because he fits the profile perfectly. Can somebody please explain why Dave Bush can't pitch on the road but he's a God at Miller Park? It's not like Miller Park is a pitcher's paradise. You gotta love the enigma of Dave Bush.
  5. I'd like to see Parra pitch against the Cubs and Cards. I really don't care however else we manage his innings. If you want to rest his arm in September for the playoffs, sign me up, but he has to be pitching in those series if possible.
  6. And then to cap off the series the umpires reverse a call that and get it wrong because Clint Hurdle convinced them. These guys get paid $200,000 a year to screw up this much?
  7. Could we be rooting for the Cubs to be beating the Mets from Sept 22-25 when they have a 4 game series at Shea Stadium? It's very possible.
  8. It's hard to give up on a guy that throws 96 mph and had a good slider and has proven he can be successful in the Major Leagues. I don't blame Melvin/Yost.
  9. First Base is indeed an easy position to fill, but the idea is to get a top shelf hitter there, and I think our best chance at that in 2009 is to put Gamel there while improving our team tremendously on the pitching front by trading Prince. There are other stop gap options, but for 2009, that would put our team in the best position to win. You could argue that putting Gamel at 1B does not put us in the best position to win for 2010 and beyond because he has more value at 3B, so it depends on where the team decides to put it's priority. If Melvin feels the Brewers have a good enough team to "Go for it" next year, I would be willing to bet that Gamel will be our opening day 2009 starter at 1B. If Prince is our opening day 2009 starter, our pitching could be in trouble because the only other option is to go out and overpay a Jeff Suppan type pitcher in free agency. I think a trade is the best option. Maybe Jeffress will be ready by mid 2009, but that is wishful thinking.
  10. Yeah, that's the problem. He hasn't. He has 23 errors and counting this year.
  11. Even Uecker and Powell were complaining about it today. You know something's up when two class acts like them say something.
  12. I won't be sad to see this umpire crew leave town after tomorrow because they are downright despicable. Tim McClellan refused to give McClung a strike. Calls on the bases were routinely wrong. The strike zones were consistently inconsistent. Does the rest of the league have the same problems with this crew, and if so can the league step in here? This is getting rediculous with these guys. Do you guys notice the same things I do, or am I just crazy?
  13. I'd give Yost a solid B. He's making a lot of the right moves, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
  14. There's still a good chance that we will trade Prince in the offseason because we are going to need pitching when Sheets and Sabathia leave town. I think the best option would be to have Gamel as our Opening Day 2009 1B because his bat is too good to leave in the minors another year to commit 40 errors at 3B. Then you can get the top shelf pitching by trading Prince and have him replaced by a darn good bat. Gamel is a lot more athletic than Prince too so I'd assume he'd play a better defensive 1B. The only problem with that is that it creates a hole at 3B then if we move Gamel over. But, we do have Hall for 2 more years as a stop gap, and Hall is not as bad as he's played in the first half. If Hall continues to not hit righties, we'll just have to find a Lefty Platoon guy. I think 3B is going to be our position of need in next year's draft. I'd love Gamel to be our future 3B, but I think that our 2009 team would be better with him playing 1B for the Brewers.
  15. Why couldn't that be Branyan? If Hall gets back into a groove and can play 3B every day, then we have our Lefty bat in the OF.
  16. What an amazing development. I'd like to see if anymore comes of this. I'd give him a 30% chance of pitching in 2008.

  18. The Twins finally lost some of their luck and lost a 1-0 game to the Red Sox after getting shut down by Dice-K for 7 innings. The tables are turning!
  19. Last time I checked it was Melvin working the phones with Ash getting this deal done and not Jack Z. Giving no credit to Melvin is a mistake. You can give credit to Jack Z if you want, but some credit is still warranted to Doug Melvin.
  20. You don't give Doug Melving any credit at all for the Sabathia deal? That's amazing. The guy who gets on the phone and does all the negotiating and that will take all the heat if this goes wrong doesn't get any credit? I am going to have to disagree whole heartedly with that.
  21. I thought it was interesting that Parra pitched a scoreless 8th inning out of the pen yesterday. That's a good use of a player who needed some work after getting his start skipped. Another good move by Ned Yost.
  22. Jason Grey from ESPN thinks Hardy is good for 10-15 more home runs this year and a .270 to .280 batting average. http://insider.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/story?page=clipboard080707
  23. I've never seen a worse display of calling balls and strikes this season than tonight. Tim McClellan has to be one of the game's worst. It's time to DFA him from the umpire field.
  24. Well said. I take the foresight approach on injuries and people don't seem to like that.
